Marks for ‘lecture demonstration', ‘experience' to help jobless teachers
Kolkata: Ten marks have been allocated for 'lecture demonstrations' and 10 for 'teaching experience' have been introduced in the new exam module, meant for the recruitment of state school teachers, which was rolled out on Friday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The new categories have been created to give some edge to the teachers from the 2016 SSC recruitment panel, who lost their jobs after the Supreme Court order, over freshers at the exam, the online application for which will be open from June 16 till July 14. The age cap for candidates has been relaxed to 40 years, according to the order on the fresh selection process for assistant teachers for classes 9-12. CM Mamata Banerjee had earlier indicated that in the new exam rules, marks would be awarded for interviews, lecture demonstrations and teaching experience and all eligible candidates who appeared for interviews would be included. The modifications align with Supreme Court's judgment issued in April and the subsequent order on April 17. The SSC on Friday filed an affidavit in the SC, informing it about the roll-out of the new exam module, according to its order. The second State Level Selection Test 2025 will be held on a 60-mark OMR-based written test and 40 marks will be for other criteria. Candidates will be selected based on their scores in the written test, education qualification (10), teaching experience (10), oral interview (10) and lecture demonstration (10). Earlier, 55 marks were for the written test, 35 for qualifications and 10 for personality test. All candidates will be given a copy of their OMR sheets, which they can take away after submitting the original ones. The answer keys, which will be the basis of evaluation, will be published on the website before the results are published and candidates may submit suggestions or objections in five days. Subject-specific expert panels will look into those suggestions. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Candidates may view their OMR sheets online by paying a fee. The physical OMR sheets will be disposed of after two years, once the tenure of the exam panel expires, but their digital scanned copies will be retained for 10 years from the time the panel expires. But protesting SSC teachers are upset. Mehebub Mandal of Eligible Teachers' Rights Forum said, "The state seems to be in a hurry to hold the exams. They could invite applications after seeing the outcome of the review plea in the SC." Another teacher, Chinmoy Mandal, said, "Very few relaxations have been granted. How will the teaching experience benefits be determined for affected candidates?" Cops, jobless teachers in cat-and-mouse game in city centre, Salt Lake for 5 hours
Kolkata: Hundreds of cops and jobless teachers played a cat-and-mouse game across Sealdah, Esplanade and Salt Lake for five hours on Friday as police pulled out all the stops to thwart the SSC teachers' march to Nabanna. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Kolkata Police detained 110 protesters, including 24 women, from Dorina crossing and near Sealdah station. All were taken to Lalbazar before being released. The Eligible Teachers' Rights Forum had called for a shirtless march to Nabanna, demanding their job back and an alternative to fresh recruitment exam. As a group gathered at Sealdah station at 11 am, they met police resistance. Each cop on duty was provided with photos of the prominent faces of the teachers, who have been protesting against their job loss following the SC order. Police checked the IDs before rounding them up. Several protesters reported rough handling by police. A woman teacher claimed, "We were standing at the metro station when police insisted we boarded the prison van without explanation." Male teachers alleged being dragged by their collars. "We reached the Sealdah station at 9.30 am and a large number of woman cops were deployed. As soon as the unemployed teachers were spotted, they were taken away in police vehicles," said a senior officer. The situation escalated when 200-odd protesters gathered outside Central Park metro station in Salt Lake. Some of the shirtless protesters reached Bikas Bhavan around 3.15 pm. Police initially requested them to put on their clothes, but when they refused, 10 men were detained. "We have been allowing them to stage a peaceful demonstration all these days, but we had to take action when it became a public nuisance," said a Bidhannagar City Police officer. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Three women, who had tried to stop the detention, were picked up. None was arrested. Forum convener Mehebub Mandal claimed they had emailed police about the march. "We will on Sunday observe Condemn Day against the cop attack on protesters," he said. A teacher shouted, "Let them kill us, shoot us."

6 SSC teachers to visit CM's residence today
1 2 3 4 Kolkata: A group of six SSC teachers, who have lost their jobs following a Supreme Court order, will visit chief minister Mamata Banerjee 's residence on Thursday morning to submit a memorandum. The women, who are among those staging a protest outside Bikash Bhawan for 22 days, will seek CM's appointment to discuss their concerns. The revised rules of School Service Commission is likely to be issued on Thursday, a day before the gazette notification for the fresh examinations for state schools posts is released. The changes, aimed at bringing transparency in the school recruitment process, will include preservation of OMR copies, along with carbon images, for a longer period and increase in the validity of the panel The protesting teachers are still adamant in their stand against appearing for the recruitment examination, which chief minister Mamata Banerjee had on Tuesday urged them to take. One of the protesting teachers said, "We want to ask the CM that after working for 10 years, is it possible to start afresh by preparing for exams to get a govt job? Is it so easy at this stage, when we have so much responsibilities?" Following the CM's announcement on Tuesday, Mehebub Mandal, the convener of the eligible teachers' forum, said, "The CM's statements at the Netaji Indoor Stadium earlier and that on Tuesday contradicted each other. Those who bought their positions will be transferred to other departments, while we have to take another exam. We do not agree to appear for the exam." The protesting teachers, who have been sitting outside Bikash Bhawan, have also refused to shift to Central Park, despite an HC order.
