Time Goes By: Spice Girls' Mel B turns 50
Spice Girl band members have flooded Melanie Brown with happy 50th birthday social media messages and a nostalgic photo trip down memory lane. Brown was known as Scary Spice when she performed in the girl group, which released their first single, Wannabe, in 1996 and had other hits with songs including Stop, 2 Become 1 and Time Goes By. The music star, who is also known as Mel B, wrote in a social media post on Thursday: "50 today!!! Thank you so much for all the love and messages I see you and appreciate you all soooo much." Brown's bandmate Melanie Chisholm marked the singer's birthday with a post that included photos from their time in the Spice Girls. She wrote: "50 years on this planet my darling @officialmelb Oh the adventures we have had! "I still remember the first day we met and thinking you were the coolest person I had ever seen, how is that over 30 years ago?! "Looking forward to BIG celebrations soon! Horner, 52, left the girl group in May 1998 and though the band split almost three years later, the singers have reformed numerous times over the years. Emma Bunton, who was known as Baby Spice due to her age, joked that she was not "far behind" when wishing Brown a happy birthday. In an Instagram post she wrote: "Happy 50th @officialmelb! I'm not far behind you!!! From zig ah zig ahs to belly laughs. Hope you have the best day. Sending love and birthday hugs." Biggest hint yet that Spice Girls will reunite as Geri Halliwell drops huge clue feud with Mel B is over
GERI Halliwell-Horner may have just lifted the lid on the news Spice Girls fans have waited for, and that the girl group is reuniting. The pop star took to Instagram to wish her fellow Spice Girl, Melanie Brown, a happy birthday. 4 4 "Happy 50th birthday @officialmelb wishing you a very wonderful year ahead," Geri captioned the post, alongside a vintage photo of the pair in their Spice Girls heyday. Rumors have been circulating for months that the Spice Girls are planning a reunion tour, and Geri's post seems to show the rift between her and Mel B may be healed. The pair have had a tumultuous relationship over the years, including last year when Mel B jokingly wished Geri a "happy 75th birthday," with unflattering photos of her to Instagram. Mel B's post was likely poking fun at rumors that went around during the Spice Girls that Geri had lied abotu her age and was in fact, much older than she'd admitted. Geri was also unhappy with Mel B when the latter revealed the pair had hooked up early in the Spice Girls career. She told Piers Morgan's Life Stories in 2019: 'We were best friends. It just happened. Have you ever done that?' Geri had previously she "didn't like the lesbian thing," on an interview with Howard Stern. Speaking to the US shock jock DJ back in the 90s, Geri decided against naming Mel and simply said her lesbian experience was with "a famous woman". She said: 'I had lesbian sex once. I realised quickly I was not a lesbian. I don't mind boobs but the other bit is not my cup of tea. 'I didn't like the lesbian thing. It is part of experimenting. I was drunk at the time.' The pair did reunite last year to celebrate their fellow Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham's 50th birthday, where the entire group came together to recreate the iconic dance from their song, Stop. As for a potential Spice Girls reunion, their bandmate, Melanie Chisholm, gave an update on its likelihood. The Sun told earlier this month how they are planning a massive tour in 2026 to celebrate 30 years since debut single Wannabe was released. Mel C revealed certain members have needed more 'convincing' than others, with Victoria Beckham currently not set to take part. She is expected to keep out of it just like she did with their sell-out 2019 reunion tour, but Geri Halliwell-Horner has also needed some persuading, which is why she is meeting with the band's manager Simon Fuller in Miami. Speaking on the No Filter with Kate Langbroek podcast, Mel C said: 'Next year is a big year for us and we have to acknowledge it in some way. 'So we are talking about what that's going to look like and for me, Melanie, I know for sure, and Emma [Bunton], we'd be back on stage. Horner, who releases her latest children's book series Rosie Frost: Ice On Fire in April, also scotched suggestions she had changed her surname to Halliwell-Horner. Her marriage to Christian Horner, principal of the Red Bull Racing Formula One team, came under the spotlight when he was accused of inappropriate behaviour towards a female employee. He was cleared by an internal investigation and after a subsequent appeal, but the story resurfaced in recent weeks when it was covered in the latest series of Netflix's Formula 1: Drive To Survive. 'We like playing games. We're quite silly,' she said before dismissing the name change, saying Halliwell-Horner was her writing name. 'I haven't legally changed anything – Horner is the name on my passport.' LAte last year Mel B reportedly hit out at her former Spice Girls bandmates with a tongue-in-cheek remark over their supposed reluctance to do another reunion tour. The pop singer, who was born Melanie Brown and known during her time in the chart-topping girl group as Scary Spice, featured as a guest captain in an episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks. In the episode Brown was questioned as to why she was kicked out of the Spice Girls WhatsApp chat, something she previously discussed back in April. 'Because I'm Northern and say what I think and feel and I'm constantly saying to the girls, 'We need to go back on tour,'' she responded, according to The Sun. Asked again why she was 'ditched', she apparently retorted: 'Because they're d***heads.'
