Huge update on Netflix smash hit Bridgerton after raunchy carriage scene was snubbed for BAFTA gong

SERIES five of Bridgerton is going ahead after Netflix made a huge multi-million pound investment in the show's future. The greenlight for the new season takes the programme way beyond its current four season batch of shows, the most recent of which was filmed last year. 3 Series five of Bridgerton is going ahead Credit: © 2024 Netflix, Inc. 3 Colin and Penelope's saucy carriage sex scene was up for the Memorable Moment gong at the TV Baftas Credit: Netflix The Bridgerton story is likely to follow the rough pattern of the novels by Julia Quinn and it's thought the next book which will serve as inspiration is expected to be Elouise Bridgerton's story, To Sir Philip, With Love. But nothing is a given in Netflix's distinctive version of the story. A TV insider said: "After introducing the controversial gender swap at the end of series three which saw Michael Stirling switched to Michaela, there is a chance execs could skip ahead to Francesca's story. "They certainly weren't afraid to dabble with Julia Quinn's timeline by swapping the order of Colin and Benedict's tales." The good news about continuing the Bridgerton saga comes as series three received a nomination at this week's TV BAFTA awards, with Colin and Penelope's saucy carriage sex scene up for the Memorable Moment gong. It was beaten by Chris McCausland's moving dance on last year's Strictly Come Dancing. Series four, which started filming at the end of 2024, will follow the story of the second Bridgerton son, Benedict, played by Luke Thompson. I exclusively revealed last year how Netflix had invested millions in building a huge new Regency-style set on the edge of London, shifting everything from its traditional home on the stunning streets of Bath. It's hard to believe it's now been almost five years since the first series dropped on Netflix starring Phoebe Dynevor and Rege Jean Page, before series two came along and helped firmly catapult Jonathan Bailey to Hollywood superstardom. Last year's third series did similar wonders for the career of its leading lady Nicola Coughlan opposite her character's love interest, Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton. Fans of The Traitors plan outraged as hit show fails to scoop any BAFTAs awards

The 2025 TV BAFTAs crowed some surprise winners - but fans of the hit BBC game show The Traitors were less than impressed when the series lost in all its categories Fans of The Traitors were up in arms on Sunday night when the hit BBC show failed to win a single award at the 2025 TV BAFTAs. The reality game show sees contestants competing for a cash prize while trying to avoid being eliminated by non faithful members of the group. On Sunday night, the show was nominated for three gongs - standing to win the Best Reality award, Best Entertainment Performance award, and the public-voted Memorable Moment award. But - to the outrage of devoted fans - the series failed to win a single gong. ‌ Channel 4's The Jury: Murder Trial proved triumphant in the Best Reality category - while show host Claudia Winkleman failed to bring home the Best Entertainment Performance award, losing out to Joe Lycett for his Channel 4 show Late Night Lycett. ‌ Despite having a loyal fanbase, the series also failed to win the public voted Memorable Moment award - and Strictly Come Dancing waltzed off with it instead for a powerful dance performed by Dianne Buswell and Chris McCausland. After realising that the Traitors had not managed to secure any wins, fans took to social media to complain - and plot a revolt. Over on X, the fan page The Traitors HQ was quick to realise that betrayal had taken place at the hands of the voting experts. Unleashing a post over the failure to secure one of the top gongs, they raged: "The Traitors just LOST the award for Best Reality Show at the 2025 #BAFTATVAwards. We ride at dawn." The message spurned motivated other fans to express disappointment - with one asking "HOW" in response, while another raged: "Robbed , absolutely robbed . Never heard of the winner." There soon followed complaints over the fact Diane's "iconic" line "Paul isn't my son... but Ross is!" was overlooked in the memorable moment category - with one fan blasting: "RIGGED" in protest. And then when Claudia lost the Best Entertainment Performance award to Joe Lycett - who did not even attend the awards - anger reached volcanic levels. One fan exclaimed: "Oh man! The Traitors are the best! You still a winner in my eyes!" ‌ With the final results unveiled, The Traitors HQ recapped the unfortunate affair, typing: "Despite being the most watched and most talked about reality TV show of the past year, The Traitors UK walked away with ZERO awards at the 2025 #BAFTATVAwards. Thoughts?" The fans did not hold back, with one writing: "ROBBED & UNDESERVED... Claudia deserved Best Presenter at the very least!" And another branded the outcome as: "Absolutely ridiculous". Other fans were more considered, however, with one reasoning: "They can't allow one show to win everything every year." While another pondered: "If the viewers don't vote in the public votes it doesn't help. Also sometimes super popular programmes don't get voted for by the panel." Fans of The Traitors will have more devious episodes to watch over the coming year as the show will return for a fourth season - while the first ever UK celebrity version of the show began filming last month. A string of stars signed up to stab each other in the back on camera. Comedy cutie Alan Carr, sports expert Clare Balding, national treasure Stephen Fry, and actor Nick Mohammed are among those taking part in the series - with the celeb edition expected to air at some point later this year.

Strictly wins public voted BAFTA - after being snubbed from main category

Strictly Come Dancing was noticeably snubbed from the Best Entertainment Programme award category for the first time ever - but succeeded in scooping the Memorable Moment gong Strictly Come Dancing picked up an award at the 2025 TV BAFTAs thanks to a public vote after being snubbed in other categories. The long-running dance show was in the Memorable Moment category which was voted for by the public. The show had been snubbed from the Best Entertainment Programme category for the first time in its history after enduring a string of scandals. But the drama surrounding the light entertainment show did not appear to put off the public who voted Dianne Buswell and Chris McCausland's waltz to You'll Never Walk Alone as the most memorable moment in TV. ‌ Dianne was at the ceremony to pick up the gong - which recognised a special dance routine with her celebrity partner, blind comedian Chris. The winning couple's 'blackout' dance, which went viral on social media, saw McCausland place his hands over Buswell's eyes as the room faded to black, mimicking his everyday experience. ‌ When the lights returned, McCausland, 47, was spinning around with Buswell on his shoulders as pyrotechnics flared in the background. Dianne gushed: 'In one minute and 30 seconds of a dance, I feel like this told such a story. A story of hope, determination, resilience and vulnerability.' She added: 'This moment meant so much to the both of us, so I'm just so thrilled that we have this.' Chris was not at the ceremony, but Buswell said: 'Chris did have something he wanted me to say, and that is 'after 22 years in comedy, he wins a Bafta for dancing'.' The moment won over scenes that aired on The Traitors, Rivals, Bridgerton, Gavin and Stacey and Mr Bates vs The Post Office. Strictly is normally up for the Best Entertainment Programme but has been snubbed this year for the first time ever in the show's history. Instead, the Entertainment Programme is made up of nominees The 1% Club (ITV1), Michael McIntyre's Big Show (BBC One), Taskmaster (Channel 4) and Would I Lie To You? (BBC One). ‌ Last year, Amanda Abbington, 51, alleged she was subjected to "inappropriate, mean, nasty bullying" in a "toxic environment" while she was a contestant on Strictly in 2023. The BBC upheld "some, but not all" of the allegations made by Amanda about her dance partner Giovanni Pernice – who has always denied the accusations. The Bafta TV Awards show began in Traitors style with Alan Cumming wearing the well-known dark cloak in the Scottish Highlands castle. Cumming, who described himself as the 'devilishly handsome' host of the US Traitors, was summoned to the Traitor turret and asked to host the Bafta TV Awards this year. The host wore a dark Traitor cloak donned with an embellished letter C on the front, despite joking that he would 'not wear one of those drab cloaks'. ‌ The Scottish actor said that accepting the role of host would be 'the 12th biggest honour of my life'. He was required to take on the 'Bafta's oath' in which he was asked whether he would 'swear that should someone's speech go on for too long you will be willing to cut them off regardless of status?' to which he quickly quipped 'I do'. He was then asked: 'Do you swear that none of your outfits will suffer a wardrobe with malfunction?' 'I do. I did the best of my ability. But you know, whatever pops out, pops out,' Cumming replied. He also swore that he would not swear on-stage, but did not promise if he would avoid foul language off-stage. 'On stage, I will have the vocabulary of a nun. Offstage that'd be more like a trucker,' he joked. The Bafta TV Awards 2025 are being held at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
