New Only Murders In The Building stars will 'define' season five
Renee Zellweger, Christoph Waltz and Logan Lerman "will define" the new season of Only Murders In The Building. The trio of actors are joining the cast of the beloved Disney+ murder mystery comedy alongside returning stars like series leads Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez, and a Disney executive has promised great things. Craig Erwich - Disney Television Group President in charge of ABC and Hulu Originals - told Deadline: "The show has reinvented itself every year with new characters and new mysteries. 'This year, it takes on a whole different side of New York City that I think people are going to really enjoy with some returning cast members, but we have some new stars too. "Among them, Logan Lerman, Renée Zellweger and [Christoph] Waltz, who kind of become the troika that I think will define this season. It's really, really funny.' On Tuesday (15.07.25), Only Murders connued its success with seven more Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including a fourth Oustanding Comedy Series nod in a row. Craig added: 'It's incredible that Only Murders has been nominated every single year since it entered the race. "Maybe we become used to it in some ways, but it should be considered a new achievement every year.' Meryl Streep will be among those returning for the fifth season, after joining in season three as struggling actress Loretta Durkin. Co-creator John Hoffman has previously spoken of his delight at watching Meryl and co-star Martin film together. He told Decider: 'You know, it is one of the most unexpected turns but I remember thinking, like, 'God.' "As I got to know Meryl, as I've known Marty and as I watched the two of them work together in season three, I just — it was unbelievable. "They just delighted in each other on screen, off screen in every way.' Meryl even thanked John for giving her the opportunity to have a love interest in her 70s. He said: 'I remember one night we were shooting on the ferry in episode five of season three. We shot until about 2 in the morning on the most gorgeous night in Manhattan. 'I got off to gangplank there and Meryl was waiting and she had tears in her eyes and she said, 'I just had to wait here for you to get off the boat to say thank you.' "And I was like, 'What?' and she said, 'I just got to play a scene I really thought that the likes of which I wouldn't have a chance to do. "'To play romantic scenes at this age with this band in this way, it's just the greatest thing ever.' '

Rumoured partners Meryl Streep, Martin Short were both very nervous before first scene together in Only Murders
The rumoured romance between Meryl Streep and Martin Short reportedly kickstarted early 2024, though both have repeatedly denied being anything more than friends. Incidentally, this fell right in line with the fact that Meryl, 76, had spent a significant bit of 2023, shooting for the third season of Only Murders in the Building, in which she then debuted as Loretta Durkin, love interest to Martin's Oliver Putnam. Meryl Streep and Martin Short in a still from Only Murders in the Building(Photo: X) Now if you're wondering how the reported romance is fairing, reports as recent as March 2025 suggest that Meryl and Martin have been together for "well over a year". Now Martin's anecdote about them being nervous around one another, may just be the nearest nod of confirmation from the horse's mouth. The actor, 75, recently got into a chat with Conan O'Brien for the latter's podcast, Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend and spilled the deets on his and Meryl's first scene together for Only Murders in the Building — a very nervous affair indeed from the looks of it! "I remember the first day working with Meryl and driving to the studio and thinking, 'Hmm, I'm nervous today. I haven't been nervous going to the set for a long time...'Oh yeah, it's Meryl Streep!", Martin shared, explaining, "The first scene we shot in Only Murders was a scene where we're at the piano and we're, kind of, flirting a little bit. The first shot set up is over her to me, so pressure's on me and then we break down so that they can reverse the cameras and do her side. We go into (the) holding area and she just says, 'OK, nerves to half'." And that's what took him by surprise! He added, "I go, 'Wait a second, I was nervous. You can't be nervous!". Well, looks like even the greatest acting legends suffer from nerves — especially when it may or may not be around someone they're nursing a crush on! Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building is expected to release later this year.

Martin Short shocked by Meryl Streep admission
Martin Short was stunned when Meryl Streep admitted she was nervous on her first day filming Only Murders in the Building. The 75-year-old actor portrays Oliver Putnam in the series opposite the 76-year-old screen legend as his love interest Loretta Durkin and he was shocked to learn she was just as apprehensive about shooting their first scenes together in season three as he was. Speaking on Sirius XM's Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, he said: "So, the first scene we shot in Only Murders was a scene where we're at the piano and we're kind of flirting a little bit. "The first shot set up [panned over Meryl to me] so it's pressure on me. "And then, we break down so that they can reverse the cameras and do her side,." 'We go into holding area and she just says, 'Okay, nerves to half.' And I go, 'Wait a second, I was nervous. You can't be nervous.' " Martin previously insisted it was "coincidental" that the Devil Wears Prada star had joined Only Murders in the Building as his love interest amid speculation they are together in real life. He told People magazine: "It's always interesting — show business relationships and spec. "They already planned that I would have a theatrical experience and there would be a love interest. "She just wanted to be on the show. She didn't know about [the love story]." Co-creator John Hoffman has previously spoken of his delight at watching Martin and Meryl film together. He told Decider: 'You know, it is one of the most unexpected turns but I remember thinking, like, 'God.' Filming starts on The Devil Wears Prada 2, Entertainment News
Filming has started on The Devil Wears Prada 2. The 2006 film — which is based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Lauren Weisberger — followed Anne Hathaway as an aspiring journalist who starts working for formidable Runway magazine boss Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), and now the cast have reportedly started work on the sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is now "heading into production" with filming planned in New York and Italy, and Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci have also returned to their roles as Emily Charlton and Nigel respectively. What's more, the outlet also claims that Kenneth Branagh has been added to the cast. The news comes just weeks after Emily — who played an overly ambitious employee at the fictional fashion magazine — teased that filming would commence in July and that there could be some "beef" between her alter-ego and Meryl's character. She told Entertainment Tonight: "[Meryl and I are] so mean to each other in every movie [they] do". "We always have beef with each other. I don't know what it is. Let's hope we remedy it. I'm not sure!" But in reality, she admitted that she has no clue what her character is up to now as she remained coy about giving away any plot details. She said: "I don't know. Where is Emily? I don't know "Can you tell I'm skirting the issue? Can you tell I'm not telling you anything?" She also noted that she had no idea that she would ever return to the role that started her career almost 20 years ago. She said: "No. Twenty years ago, in a blink, it's gone by." The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set for release on July 1, 2026. [[nid:719652]]

Mum's fury after her two-year-old son was locked in a storeroom at daycare
A mother whose two-year-old son Ezra was accidentally locked in a storeroom at daycare says the traumatising event has left him unable to sleep. Meryl, whose son attended Little Zak's Academy in Austral, western Sydney, shared her ordeal with Ben Fordham on 2GB radio on Wednesday. She said Ezra was locked in a storeroom for an unaccounted period of time on January 6 before he was found by a parent who had come to pick up their child. 'He's struggling a little bit,' she said. 'He says he doesn't want to be in dark spaces and he says he's scared. He wakes up in the middle of the night and he struggles to go back to sleep. 'He wets himself all through the night, all his clothes are soaked.' Meryl described breaking down in tears when she saw CCTV of the incident. 'It was (an accident). Apparently, the educator had walked into the storeroom and she didn't close the door behind her,' she said. 'She exited the storeroom and didn't look around for any children and just closed the door. There's no sound on the video but I saw him pointing so I think he must have been crying.' Meryl alleged the footage appeared to be doctored, with a blank space cutting in 'out of the blue' and a woman suddenly appearing in shot, suggesting it had been spliced. 'This was confirmed by the centre director. She admitted the video was doctored,' she told the Sydney radio station. Meryl said a man could be seen pointing to the storeroom and he is the one who opened the door, letting Ezra out. 'My son just walked out. It just shattered me,' she said. 'No-one even comforted him when he walked out. Nobody even hugged him or consoled him, he was just standing there.' The mother said she reached out to the NSW Department of Education in February but is yet to receive a response. Daily Mail Australia has contacted the department and Little Zak's Academy for comment. In a statement to 2GB, Zak's Academy apologised for the incident and said it issued formal warnings to staff involved. 'We are deeply sorry about what happened at our Austral centre... when a two-year-old child was accidentally left in a children's play and equipment storeroom for almost 13 minutes,' it said. The daycare said several children had followed a staff member into the room but were told to leave. It said the educator did not realise Ezra remained inside when the door closed. 'We immediately contacted the child's family, told them what happened, and apologised. We understand how frightening this must have been for both the child and the parents,' the statement continued. The daycare said it reported the incident to the early childhood education and care directorate of New South Wales and is fully cooperating with their investigation. 'We've taken comprehensive action, including formal warnings for the staff involved, mandatory retraining for all educators, updated supervision policies, new safety checks when exiting storerooms, and additional signage reminders,' it said.
