Cairo Temperatures to Exceed 40°C as Heatwave Peaks Monday
H-Tayea Egypt's Meteorological Authority has warned that Monday will mark the peak of the current heatwave, with temperatures in Greater Cairo expected to exceed 40°C in the shade, and soar to 43–44°C in Upper Egypt, according to Dr. Manar Ghanem, spokesperson for the authority. Speaking during a televised interview on Al-Hayat TV, Dr. Ghanem explained that such extreme temperatures are typical for late May and early June, which are historically among the hottest periods of the year in Egypt. However, a noticeable drop in temperatures is expected starting Monday night into Tuesday, with highs in Cairo falling by 7 to 9 degrees, stabilizing between 31–33°C through the end of the week. The Meteorological Authority also warned of dust and strong winds, particularly in the afternoon, advising citizens to take precautions, especially those with respiratory conditions. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies

Extreme heat warning issued for Egypt, record temperatures expected
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority has revealed the expected weather conditions across the country, forecasting hot to very hot weather during the daytime, particularly in Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta, and Upper Egypt. The atmosphere will be mild at night, with warnings of light morning mist and active winds stirring up sand and dust in some governorates. The Meteorological Authority also disclosed that the country is experiencing a severe heatwave, with record high temperatures in most areas. The authority advised wearing light, cotton clothing during the day, avoiding direct sun exposure and seeking shade to prevent sunstroke, opening windows and staying in well-ventilated places, exercising caution while driving in the morning due to light fog, especially on agricultural and highways near water bodies, drinking sufficient amounts of water to avoid dehydration, particularly in hot regions (Upper Egypt and South Sinai), using sunscreen and hats during the day, and wearing masks for allergy sufferers in dusty areas. The Meteorological Authority attributed the heatwave to the influence of a high-pressure system, which is contributing to the rise in temperatures across all parts of the country. A decrease in temperatures is expected to return next Monday, May 12th, with values dropping by up to 8 degrees Celsius. The weather expected in the coming hours will be very hot during the day across the country and hot at night in the south. Weather maps have warned of light morning mist formation (from 4 to 8 AM) on agricultural and highways in the Nile Delta, Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, and northern Upper Egypt. Visibility may be slightly affected in the morning due to the fog. Active winds, potentially stirring up sand and dust, are expected in most areas.

Egypt issues weather alert as powerful khamsin storm approaches - Society
Egypt's Meteorological Authority (EMA) has issued a high-impact weather warning ahead of a severe khamsin storm set to hit on Wednesday, bringing high winds, dust, rain, and dangerous conditions across much of the country. Winds of 40–60 km/h are expected, with gusts reaching up to 80 km/h, drastically reducing visibility—especially in North Upper Egypt, Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal, Sinai, and the Gulf of Suez. Some gusts may reach storm-force intensity, the EMA said. Citizens are advised to avoid weak structures, wear masks outdoors, and follow official updates. Driving conditions may become hazardous due to airborne dust and poor visibility. Rainfall is likely in northern areas, with thunderstorms possible along the coast. Greater Cairo, North Sinai, and the Canal cities may see light to moderate rain. Maritime activity in the Gulf of Suez will be disrupted, with waves reaching up to 3 metres. Temperatures on Wednesday will remain high, with Greater Cairo forecast to hit 33°C and Upper Egypt ranging from 33°C to 40°C. A marked drop in temperature is expected on Thursday, with Cairo cooling to 27°C and Upper Egypt falling to between 28°C and 34°C. The khamsin is a seasonal phenomenon that typically occurs between March and May, driven by hot, dry desert winds sweeping across North Africa and the eastern Mediterranean. Its name, derived from the Arabic word for 'fifty', refers to its traditional 50-day duration. Meteorologists note that climate change may be contributing to the storm's growing intensity and unpredictability in recent years. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

Omani students win GLOBE science contest
Muscat – Two Omani school students have won top honours at the 2025 GLOBE International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS), securing first place globally and within the Near East and North Africa region for their scientific research. Khalfan bin Issa al Hussaini and Elias bin Walid al Sulaimani, students at Said bin Nasser al Kindi Basic Education School in Muscat, presented a project titled 'An Investigation of Temperatures Recorded by GLOBE Students Compared to the Meteorological Station in Al Amerat over the Past Ten Years'. Using protocols set by the GLOBE Programme, the students collected daily temperature data from 2015 to 2024 in Amerat and compared it with official records from the Meteorological Authority. Their aim was to assess the consistency between both datasets and explore reasons for any discrepancies. The study found slight but consistent variations in monthly temperatures between the student data and meteorological station records. These differences were attributed to factors such as location of instruments and variations in monitoring equipment. 'This win highlights the ability of our students to engage with real-world data and contribute meaningfully to scientific understanding,' a spokesperson for the school said. Oman joined the 'GLOBE Programme' – a global science and education initiative led by NASA – in December 2009 through a Memorandum of Understanding for Environmental Cooperation. The programme promotes scientific learning through environmental research and fosters international collaboration among students. The 2025 award is seen as a significant achievement for Oman's education sector and a recognition of the country's continued involvement in international scientific research.

Egypt weather: Peak heat hits Tuesday before gradual cooling
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority has revealed the expected weather conditions for Monday and Tuesday, as well as the timing of a return to lower temperatures. Hot weather will prevail during the daytime across most of the country, becoming very hot in Upper Egypt, with moderate temperatures at night in most areas. The Meteorological Authority added in a statement on its official Facebook page that morning mist will form and may be dense at times on some agricultural roads, highways, and roads near bodies of water. It continued: 'There will be wind activity in areas of the west of the country, which may stir up sand and dust intermittently.' Tuesday will witness a noticeable increase in temperatures, with values ranging from 5 to 6 degrees Celsius higher. Temperatures in Cairo and Lower Egypt will be between 38-29 degrees Celsius, the northern coasts will see 36-43 degrees Celsius, and the south of the country will experience 40-41 degrees Celsius. Starting from Wednesday, there will be a slight and gradual decrease in temperatures in the north of the country, extending to Greater Cairo.
