Cairo Temperatures to Exceed 40°C as Heatwave Peaks Monday

H-Tayea
Egypt's Meteorological Authority has warned that Monday will mark the peak of the current heatwave, with temperatures in Greater Cairo expected to exceed 40°C in the shade, and soar to 43–44°C in Upper Egypt, according to Dr. Manar Ghanem, spokesperson for the authority.
Speaking during a televised interview on Al-Hayat TV, Dr. Ghanem explained that such extreme temperatures are typical for late May and early June, which are historically among the hottest periods of the year in Egypt.
However, a noticeable drop in temperatures is expected starting Monday night into Tuesday, with highs in Cairo falling by 7 to 9 degrees, stabilizing between 31–33°C through the end of the week.
The Meteorological Authority also warned of dust and strong winds, particularly in the afternoon, advising citizens to take precautions, especially those with respiratory conditions.

1 Dead, 180 Evacuated as Wildfire Rages Near Madrid

Israa Farhan Firefighters have brought under control a large wildfire near Tres Cantos, close to the Spanish capital Madrid, which claimed the life of one person and forced the evacuation of 180 residents. According to Madrid regional authorities, favorable overnight conditions allowed crews to contain the fire after hours of intense work. The blaze, which broke out earlier this week, destroyed more than 2,000 acres of land and posed a serious threat to nearby communities. Emergency services reported that a man suffered burns covering 98 percent of his body. He was airlifted to La Paz Hospital but later died from his injuries. Spain's national weather agency has warned that the ongoing heat wave will continue through Tuesday, with temperatures in some areas expected to reach 44°C. Scientists say the combination of record heat and prolonged drought across the Mediterranean region is creating highly dangerous conditions for wildfires, making the area increasingly vulnerable to devastating blazes during the summer months. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani

Millions Evacuated in Japan Amid Floods

Israa Farhan Millions of residents in southwestern Japan have been ordered to evacuate as torrential rains triggered severe flooding and landslides, while thousands in Spain have been forced from their homes due to rapidly spreading wildfires. In Japan's Kumamoto Prefecture, television footage showed entire districts submerged under nearly one meter of water, leaving homes, businesses, and vehicles damaged. Tamana City, the hardest-hit area, recorded over 37 centimetres of rainfall in just six hours on Monday morning, a local record. Authorities have warned that the situation poses a serious threat to life, urging maximum vigilance. Japan's Fire and Disaster Management Agency reported that evacuation orders have been issued to more than three million people in the region, with the highest-level warnings applying to around 384,000 residents, most in Kumamoto. Landslides have left at least one person missing in the town of Kosa, while another elderly man was trapped in his home in Misato. Two people from greater Fukuoka remain missing after being swept away by river currents. Meteorologists cautioned that unstable soil and swollen rivers mean disaster risks remain high even as rainfall begins to ease. Meanwhile, in northwestern Spain, authorities have evacuated thousands from towns including Carucedo and surrounding areas near Las Médulas, a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its dramatic landscapes and Roman-era gold mines. Officials suspect several fires were deliberately set. Blistering heat and strong, shifting winds have fuelled the blazes, creating dangerous fire whirls that forced firefighters to retreat. Some homes have already been destroyed. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani
