Cairo Temperatures to Exceed 40°C as Heatwave Peaks Monday
H-Tayea Egypt's Meteorological Authority has warned that Monday will mark the peak of the current heatwave, with temperatures in Greater Cairo expected to exceed 40°C in the shade, and soar to 43–44°C in Upper Egypt, according to Dr. Manar Ghanem, spokesperson for the authority. Speaking during a televised interview on Al-Hayat TV, Dr. Ghanem explained that such extreme temperatures are typical for late May and early June, which are historically among the hottest periods of the year in Egypt. However, a noticeable drop in temperatures is expected starting Monday night into Tuesday, with highs in Cairo falling by 7 to 9 degrees, stabilizing between 31–33°C through the end of the week. The Meteorological Authority also warned of dust and strong winds, particularly in the afternoon, advising citizens to take precautions, especially those with respiratory conditions. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies

Heatwave strikes Egypt this week amid Sham el-Nessim celebrations
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) expects the country to experience a heat wave this week, coinciding with Sham el-Nessim celebrations across Egypt. A member of the EMA's media center, Manar Ghanem, announced on Saturday that temperatures this week will rise due to the country being affected by desert air masses alongside a high pressure system in the upper atmosphere. During a phone-in with TV host Amr Adib on the 'al-Hekaya' (The Story) show, Ghanem added that the maximum temperature in Greater Cairo will reach 31C on Sunday, and 33C on Monday (Sham el-Nessim). Tuesday will be the peak of the heatwave, Ghanem explained, with the maximum temperature in Greater Cairo exceeding 37C, growing up to 40C in the southern parts of the country. Afterwards, it will return to averages of 32-33C. Edited translation from Al-Masry Al-Youm

Saturday sees return of heatwave to Egypt, lasting until Wednesday
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) expects temperatures to rise by about eight degrees Celsius starting from Sunday across most governorates of the country. A member of the EMA's media center, Manar Ghanem, said that the heatwave is expected to continue until Wednesday. During a phone-in with TV host Amr Adib on the 'al-Hekaya' (The Story) show on Friday evening, Ghanem indicated that the peak of the heatwave will be on Sunday and Tuesday, exceeding 35C in Greater Cairo and reaching as high as 40C in southern Upper Egypt. She also noted increased wind speeds exceeding 45 km/h are expected for Sunday and Tuesday, leading to dust and sandstorms and reduced visibility, especially on desert roads, for most of the northern governorates. Temperatures will drop again after the heatwave ends, Ghanem said, and suggested against switching to lighter clothes. The spring season is known for rapid changes in weather conditions from one day to the next, she added. Edited translation from Al-Masry Al-Youm

Mild spring weather expected across Greater Cairo for Thursday
A member of the media center of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA), Manar Ghanem, announced the expected weather conditions for Thursday in Greater Cairo. During a phone interview with Ahmed Diab on the 'Sabah El Balad' program, Ghanem explained that Thursday's weather in Greater Cairo will be mild, with the maximum temperature reaching 28 degrees Celsius. Thursday will see stable weather conditions with moderate wind speeds, she noted, with the dusts and sand stirred up by wind activity subsiding in most governorates. Temperatures will be around the average for this time of year. Ghanem added that, 'There will be some wind activity today in Greater Cairo, South Sinai, the Red Sea mountain ranges, and northern and southern Upper Egypt, but it will not significantly affect the general movement of citizens. Summery conditions will prevail in the coming period, meaning that light clothing can be worn during the day with thicker clothing at night.' Edited translation from Al-Masry Al-Youm

Is it summer? EMA advises on wearing fall clothes until May due to weather fluctuations
Weather - file CAIRO - 3 April 2025: Dr. Manar Ghanem, a member of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority's media center, urged citizens not to wear summer clothes at this time because of the fluctuation in daytime and nighttime temperatures. The EMA member advised that citizens wear fall clothes until the beginning of May. Ghanem added that during the coming period, the weather will be hot during the day and cold at night, with no weather phenomena. She noted that the chances of rain have diminished in the governorates after it fell yesterday in some areas due to the presence of a low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere. Ghanem confirmed that the coming period will witness stable spring weather, with no dust or sand until the beginning of next week. However, it is possible that it will occur at other times, as we are in the spring season, during which we witness significant sand and dust storms due to the influence of desert masses or Khamaseen depressions. As of Thursday, the weather will begin to stabilize somewhat, and the sand and dust will disappear, with improved visibility in the Upper Egypt governorates, with the weather conditions stabilizing in the rest of the governorates until the beginning of next week. The country will witness stable weather conditions and temperatures around the normal rates or higher than the average by one degree. Greater Cairo will record highs from 27 to 29 degrees Celsius, with a decrease in wind speed, which may become slightly active in the evening to moderate the atmosphere and give us a feeling of a decrease in temperatures during the night.
