Saturday sees return of heatwave to Egypt, lasting until Wednesday
A member of the EMA's media center, Manar Ghanem, said that the heatwave is expected to continue until Wednesday.
During a phone-in with TV host Amr Adib on the 'al-Hekaya' (The Story) show on Friday evening, Ghanem indicated that the peak of the heatwave will be on Sunday and Tuesday, exceeding 35C in Greater Cairo and reaching as high as 40C in southern Upper Egypt.
She also noted increased wind speeds exceeding 45 km/h are expected for Sunday and Tuesday, leading to dust and sandstorms and reduced visibility, especially on desert roads, for most of the northern governorates.
Temperatures will drop again after the heatwave ends, Ghanem said, and suggested against switching to lighter clothes.
The spring season is known for rapid changes in weather conditions from one day to the next, she added.
