Hyderabad To Vijayawada In Just 2 Hours? Telangana's New Greenfield Highway Work On Track
Last Updated: This Rs 650-crore project is aimed at reducing heavy traffic and will link key areas like Hayathnagar via the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The Telangana government is planning a brand-new greenfield highway that will cut down travel time between Hyderabad and Vijayawada to just two hours. As per The New Indian Express, State Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy shared this exciting update during an inspection in Vanasthalipuram. How Will LB Nagar Benefit? One of the major projects in focus is a six-kilometre elevated corridor from LB Nagar to Pedda Amberpet. This Rs 650 crore project aims to ease traffic in this busy stretch. It will link directly to the Outer Ring Road (ORR), providing smoother access to Hayathnagar and beyond. The minister also highlighted that Rs 541 crore was already secured for road work between LB Nagar and Malkapur during his MP tenure, and he now aims to finish all pending works without delay. To make roads safer, the government has identified 17 accident-prone black spots that will be fixed on priority. What's Next for Metro and Rail Projects? The minister will soon meet Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to fast-track approvals for Metro Phase-II and the Regional Ring Railway. What About Healthcare? Telangana's healthcare scene is getting a boost too. The super-specialty TIMS Hospital in Sanathnagar will open this September. More such hospitals are coming up to provide corporate-level care to citizens. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Telangana BJP questions inflated estimates for Metro Phase-II
Hyderabad: alleged that the Congress govt, which has been blaming the Centre for not providing adequate financial support to Telangana, has failed to utilise funds allocated under centrally sponsored schemes (CCS) and has not implemented necessary reforms to secure additional funding. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The party further stated that the Phase-II was not cleared due to its high cost estimates compared to similar Metro projects in other cities. Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, the party's state official spokesperson, Sarangula Amarnath, said that the state govt is plagued by inefficiency and poor financial mismanagement. "The CAG report released on Friday clearly indicates that the state had already borrowed 37% of this year's budgeted estimates. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy is totally oblivious of the public finance system that governs various CCS and grants," he said. "Despite generous allocations under the Finance Commission devolution, CSS and one-off grants, large sums remain unutilised in single nodal agency (SNA) bank accounts. These funds often lapse due to the state's failure to provide matching shares or are withheld because mandatory conditions are not met. Between 2020-21 and 2024-25 (till Feb 2, 2025), the Centre released ₹78,859.87 crore to Telangana under various Central sponsored schemes. Yet the state reported significant unspent balances in SNA accounts," Amarnath said. Citing examples, he pointed out that ₹1,812 crore remained idle in SNA accounts at the end of last financial year, according to CAG findings. "Telangana is suffering significant losses in Central funding due to its failure to implement key reforms mandated by the Union govt, with the state forgoing an estimated ₹25,000 crore over five years and risking additional losses of ₹5,000 crore annually due to incomplete reform compliance in sectors such as the power sector, holding local bodies elections, matching share, not providing utilisation certificates and FRMB violations," the spokesperson said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now On Metro Phase-II, Amarnath alleged that the Revanth Reddy govt had abnormally increased estimations for the project. "For instance, the estimated cost per km for the Hyderabad Metro Phase-II is Rs 318 crore, whereas the AP govt's estimation for Vijayawada city metro is just Rs 260 crore and for Visakhapatnam it is just Rs 248 crore per km," the BJP leader said. "For whose benefit are these inflated Metro Phase-II estimates? Who will pocket the 30% excess per km," he asked.

Revanth seeks support of Union Ministers and BJP MPs for Centre's clearances to projects
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy asked the political forces not to stall the State's progress to fulfil their partisan interests, and the government would remove the obstacles created with renewed vigour for State's sake. Mr. Reddy said the government has launched a crackdown on illegal encroachments, citing the removal of the N Convention Center, which fell under Full Tank Level (FTL) violations. Film actor Nagarjuna has voluntarily handed over two acres of land for the city's development, he said. Efforts are underway to rejuvenate Bathukamma Kunta, which he said was under occupation for 40 years. The Chief Minister continued his criticism of the BJP, and alleged that the Centre is not supporting Telangana's urban projects. 'Bengaluru, Chennai, Andhra Pradesh got metro rail. Gujarat got the bullet train. Delhi has Yamuna development, Uttar Pradesh has Ganga rejuvenation. Why then is Telangana's Musi Riverfront Project denied Central funding?' he asked. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and all the BJP MPs must contribute to city's development keeping aside political differences, he said asking them to take it as a suggestion than criticism. He said the government plans to raise these concerns directly with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who will be in Telangana on Sunday. Demands for clearances on the Metro Phase-II, Regional Ring Road, and Musi project will be presented to him, he said.
