Telangana BJP questions inflated estimates for Metro Phase-II

Time of India26-07-2025
Hyderabad:
alleged that the Congress govt, which has been blaming the Centre for not providing adequate financial support to Telangana, has failed to utilise funds allocated under centrally sponsored schemes (CCS) and has not implemented necessary reforms to secure additional funding.

The party further stated that the
Phase-II was not cleared due to its high cost estimates compared to similar Metro projects in other cities.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, the party's state official spokesperson, Sarangula Amarnath, said that the state govt is plagued by inefficiency and poor financial mismanagement. "The CAG report released on Friday clearly indicates that the state had already borrowed 37% of this year's budgeted estimates.
Chief minister A Revanth Reddy is totally oblivious of the public finance system that governs various CCS and grants," he said.
"Despite generous allocations under the Finance Commission devolution, CSS and one-off grants, large sums remain unutilised in single nodal agency (SNA) bank accounts. These funds often lapse due to the state's failure to provide matching shares or are withheld because mandatory conditions are not met.
Between 2020-21 and 2024-25 (till Feb 2, 2025), the Centre released ₹78,859.87 crore to Telangana under various Central sponsored schemes.
Yet the state reported significant unspent balances in SNA accounts," Amarnath said.
Citing examples, he pointed out that ₹1,812 crore remained idle in SNA accounts at the end of last financial year, according to CAG findings. "Telangana is suffering significant losses in Central funding due to its failure to implement key reforms mandated by the Union govt, with the state forgoing an estimated ₹25,000 crore over five years and risking additional losses of ₹5,000 crore annually due to incomplete reform compliance in sectors such as the power sector, holding local bodies elections, matching share, not providing utilisation certificates and FRMB violations," the spokesperson said.

On Metro Phase-II, Amarnath alleged that the Revanth Reddy govt had abnormally increased estimations for the project. "For instance, the estimated cost per km for the Hyderabad Metro Phase-II is Rs 318 crore, whereas the AP govt's estimation for Vijayawada city metro is just Rs 260 crore and for Visakhapatnam it is just Rs 248 crore per km," the BJP leader said.
"For whose benefit are these inflated Metro Phase-II estimates? Who will pocket the 30% excess per km," he asked.

Minister pushes for completion of four fishing harbours to boost coastal infrastructure and livelihoods

Minister for Roads & Buildings, Investments, and Infrastructure B.C. Janardhan Reddy has directed officials to expedite the completion of four fishing harbours being developed under Phase-1. Chairing the 19th board meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Infrastructure Development Corporation (APMIDC) at the Secretariat on Monday, the Minister reviewed the progress of harbours at Juvvaladinne, Nizampatnam, Machilipatnam, and Uppada. He emphasised the need for swift completion to strengthen coastal infrastructure and support the livelihoods of local fishing communities. Mr. Janardhan Reddy also instructed officials to obtain administrative approvals from the Fisheries Department for three new harbours proposed under Phase-2 — at Pudimadaka, Budagatlapalem, and Kothapatnam — as per the revised estimates. He directed that construction works begin without delay once approvals are in place.

Ajit urges immediate start to relocating project-affected residents

After state minister Chhagan Bhujbal raised concern over the slow pace of the Mahatma Phule Wada and Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Memorial's expansion work, the Maharashtra government urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to immediately take up relocating project-affected residents and start the land acquisition process in 15 days. 'It is necessary to relocate residents living around the memorial. The relocation of those residents who are willing to move to alternative locations should begin immediately,' said Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar while conducting a review of the project. The state government has decided to preserve and expand Mahatma Phule Wada and Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Memorial. State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal participated in the project review and expressed concern over slow pace in implementing the project, the site of which he visited last week in Pune. Pawar said the state government allocated Rs 200 crore for the land acquisition, gowever, this has not yet commenced. 'Around 1,000 residents around the memorial are to be relocated and options have been provided. Of these, 200 residents are willing to move to alternative locations, and relocation procedures for them should begin,' he said, adding that planning should be done to move the remaining residents in phases. Bhujbal said the expansion work should have been started by now, but the relocating nearby residents was still pending. 'Instead of relocating everyone at once, those who are ready to shift to alternative places should be moved first and their locations vacated. The remaining residents can then be relocated,' he said. Boult becomes GoBoult, aiming for ₹1K cr sales and international expansion

Smart wearables and hearables manufacturing company Boult is undertaking a brand image change and will adopt the name GoBoult to capture the more premium segment of users, the company's co-founder and chief executive officer, Varun Gupta, said. The rebranding comes at a time when production at most hearable and wearable manufacturing units in India, including Boult's, has been halted or slowed down due to a shortage of rare-earth magnets and other crucial elements that are imported almost exclusively from China. Gupta, however, said that the production stoppage was also necessary since the company wanted to liquidate all the old stock before rolling out the rebranded products. 'Thankfully, it was not so much of a problem for us because, anyway, we were going through a transition. We had to maintain low stock for the last 45 days and the next 30 days as well. We did not want to be producing a huge amount of stock under the old name Boult,' Gupta said. The company may, however, face hiccups even after the rebranding exercise is complete, as the rare-earth magnet supplies from China continue to be constrained, he said. 'The supplies have been constrained. We are looking at alternate suppliers in China; sometimes we are looking at importing, while at other times, it takes a premium to get the same material. As much as we would like to avoid it, we also face issues and capacity constraints,' Gupta said. The company aims to hit the market with the rebranded products starting in September, Gupta added. 'We are looking at a Rs 1000 crore+ number this year. We want to do a few strategic things, such as going international and going for an IPO (initial public offering) as we hit Rs 1000 crore,' he said. The company, which was founded in 2017, will target the Rs 2000 and above average selling price segment for both wearables and hearables, Gupta said. He added that the audio segment contributes to about 75% of the company's total revenues, while smartwatches and other wearables contribute to the other 25%. The digital-first company, which sells nearly 93% of its products through online channels and e-commerce websites, is also planning to expand its retail and offline-store presence, aiming to reach more than 30,000 stores within the next 18 months, he said. GoBoult, the rebranded company, plans to foray into the US, European, Southeast Asian, and East Asian markets within the next five years, Gupta said.
