Ranking the uniforms in the Women's College World series
The Women's College World Series gets underway on Thursday in Oklahoma City, with eight teams hoping to put their best foot forward in hopes of securing a national championship. The Oklahoma Sooners are hoping to become the first team to win five straight national titles but will face significant challenges from Texas, Florida, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Oregon, UCLA, and Ole Miss. It's one of the best events in college sports, as over the next week and a half, softball will take center stage. As the teams take the field, so will some iconic uniforms. From classics to alternates, there will be some fantastic fits on display in Oklahoma City. Who has the best? 8. Florida Gators Florida infielder Mia Williams (11) fields against Georgia during a NCAA super regionals softball game at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, FL on Saturday, May 24, 2025. [Alan Youngblood/Gainesville Sun] When you think of the Florida Gators, this is what you picture. It's a uniform that looks like something you'd expect out of a team from Florida. It's a solid look but not quite as nice as some of the others in the Women's College World Series. 7. Oregon Ducks Oregon’s Lyndsey Grein pitches against Weber State during the Eugene NCAA Softball Regional May 17, 2025. The Oregon football team has some of the best looks in college sports. This is the softball team's best uniform. It looks like a storm's brewing and with the way the Ducks have played this season, it's fitting. The only knock is that the all-green and all-yellow looks don't come together quite like some of the other solids in Oklahoma City. 6. Ole Miss Rebels Powder Blue May 25, 2025; Fayetteville, AR, USA; Ole Miss Rebels pitcher Aliyah Binford (4) and her teammates celebrate after the last out against the Arkansas Razorbacks in game three of the Fayetteville Super Regional at Bogle Park. Mandatory Credit: Nelson Chenault-Imagn Images There's a lot of blue on the list, but the Ole Miss Powder Blue is about as good as it gets. 5. UCLA Blue and Gold UCLA Bruins infielder Jordan Woolery (15) celebrates after getting on base Friday, May 9, 2025, during the Big Ten softball tournament game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Purdue University’s Bittinger Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana. UCLA is one of the blue bloods of the sport and their UCLA Blue evokes memories of a long history of success in college softball. They get the blue bump over Ole Miss simply out of respect for what UCLA Blue and Gold have meant to the sport. 4. Texas Longhorns' Icy White The Texas Longhorns celebrate the 6-5 win over Clemson in game 3 of the NCAA D1 Softball Tournament Super Regional at Red and Charline McCombs Field on Saturday, May 24, 2025 in Austin, Texas. The all-whites are a great look, and not only because it minimizes the amount of burnt orange one has to see, but it's reminiscent of their best football look as well. 3. Texas Tech's All Black Texas Tech's NiJaree Canady (24) throws a pitch during the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship game between Arizona Wildcats and Texas Tech Red Raiders at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, Saturday, May, 10, 2025. Few athletic programs wear black as well as Texas Tech. With red script and accents, it's an ominous look, especially when the best pitcher in the game, NiJaree Canady, is standing in the circle. 2. Oklahoma Sooners All-Crimson Oklahoma infielder Gabbie Garcia (42) celebrates after hitting a two-run home run in the third inning of Game 2 of an NCAA super regional between the University of Oklahoma (OU) and the Alabama Crimson Tide at Love's Field in Norman, Saturday, May 24, 2025. The Oklahoma Sooners have a lot of really good looks, but none as clean as their all-crimson fit. It's strong and powerful, much like this team. 1. Tennessee Volunteers 'Summitt Blue' The Tennessee softball team does a cheer with Tennessee softball head coach Karen Weekly after winning a NCAA super regionals softball game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers and advancing to the Women's College World Series at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn., on May 25, 2025. Tennessee won 1-0 against Nebraska. When you think of Tennessee, you may not think of the blue they wore to clinch their super regional over Nebraska, but their "Summitt Blue," named after the Lady Vols legendary women's basketball coach Pat Summitt, is fantastic. The white accents, along with the orange lettering, are a great look. Who is Mia Williams? Meet Jason Williams' daughter and Florida softball second baseman
Who is Mia Williams? Meet Jason Williams' daughter and Florida softball second baseman Show Caption Hide Caption Legally blind pitcher Jenica Matos to play D1 softball The Cheshire High School star in Connecticut can't see home plate but threw three no-hitters last year and will play Division I for the Red Storm. Mia Williams may only be a sophomore, but she has been a Florida Gator for much longer than two years. The Gators softball second baseman committed to Florida as a seventh grader when she was 12 years old, but her connection with the school runs even deeper than that. Even when Williams became the youngest recruit to ever commit to a Division I program at the time of her commitment in 2017, she seemed Gainesville-bound longer than that. REQUIRED READING: NCAA softball tournament super regional schedule breakdown in race for Women's College World Series Williams is the daughter of former Florida basketball star guard Jason Williams and former Gator track and field athlete Denika Kisty. As a sophomore, Williams has grown into a key cog for the Florida offense with a 1.185 OPS, 19 home runs, 44 RBI and 50 runs scored, while manning the keystone position on the softball diamond. She will be in the lineup when the No. 3 Gators host rival Georgia in the Gainesville Super Regional. Here's what you need to know about Williams, her parents and her stats at Florida: Who is Mia Williams' father? After starting his career at Marshall, Jason Williams transferred to Florida to play under head coach Billy Donovan for his junior season in 1997-98. He had to sit out the 1996-97 season due to his transfer, but averaged 17.7 points, 6.7 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game in his lone season with the Gators. Nicknamed "White Chocolate" during his playing career, Jason Williams was the No. 7 overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings. He won an NBA championship with the Miami Heat in 2006. Despite having a superstar father in basketball, Williams has always been more in love with the softball diamond. 'To this day, people will find out who my dad is, and they'll ask me, 'Why don't you play basketball?'" Williams said to Saturday Down South. "I'm not him. I'm someone else. I get to do whatever I want, you know?' Mia Williams mother Williams' mother was no slouch either when it comes to athletics. Denika Kisty was a two-time All-American for Florida's track and field teams. The success in different sports for the family brings out a competitive side, too. 'In our house, we all think we are the best,' Denika said to FloSports in 2018. 'I remind Jason weekly I'm the only All-American and he reminds me he is the only World Champion and it goes on and on.' Mia Williams shines and other takeaways from Florida softball Gainesville Regional win over Mercer
Florida softball began the NCAA Gainesville Regional with a solid all-around effort, beating Mercer 8-0 at Katie Seashole Presley Stadium. Junior catcher Jocelyn Erickson delivered the walk-off RBI single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, clinching the run-rule win. Advertisement Ava Brown (11-3) pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief of starter Kara Hammock to pick up her 11th win of the season. "Very efficient offensive day," Florida softball coach Tim Walton said. "Defensively made some really nice plays. Ava did a really job in relief, I thought Kara did a good job in the start and had a quality go for us." The Florida Gators (44-14) advanced to play Florida Atlantic on Saturday (noon, TV TBD) in the winner's bracket, The Owls beat Georgia Tech 5-4 in eight innings on a walk-off RBI single by Kiley Shelton, who is the younger sister of Florida baseball shortstop Colby Shelton. The No. 3 national seed Gators are seeking their 13th CWS appearance in 19 seasons under Walton. Advertisement Here are three takeaways from UF's win over Mercer: Mia Williams sparks Florida softball with big day at the plate Williams went 2-for-2 with two doubles and 3 RBIs to help spark the offense as she's continued her slugging sophomore season. Williams, the daughter of former Gator and NBA great Jason Williams, has 19 home runs and 10 doubles on the season. "My mindset coming into this season was completely different," Williams said. "Last year I was trying to do a lot, trying to press and this year it's just having trust in myself and my teammates and more trust in my coaches, too." Taylor Shumaker launches another homer for Florida softball After Kenda Falby walked to lead off the third inning, Shumaker followed with her 19th homer of the season, launching a 2-1 pitch from Mercer starter Hannah Pitts over the wall in right field. Shumaker's home run, which ties the program's freshman home run record first set by Brittany Schutte in 2010, started a five-run rally in the third inning that gave the Gators an early 5-0 lead. Advertisement "I never am looking to really ever hit a home run," Shumaker said. "I don't think that's the kind of hitter that I am. I did know my team needed me to do something whether it was a single, a double, putting the ball in play hard just so we could try to get a little more momentum." Ava Brown shuts the door in relief for Florida softball After Hammock lasted 2 2/3 innings, walking three batters and hitting another, Walton turned to Brown with the bases loaded and two outs. Brown got a fly out to end the third inning and pitched the rest of the game, retiring six of the eight batters she faced. She allowed two hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
