Mableton City Council votes down services agreement with Cobb County, negotiations ongoing
A tentative agreement between the City of Mableton and Cobb County for running police and transportation services was voted down Thursday, putting both governments back at the negotiating table. A spokesman for the City of Mableton said the one-year agreement to fund police and department of transportation services in the city was voted down by the council 4-3. Channel 2 Action News reported Thursday that Mayor Michael Owens said the agreement was only set for one-year as the county and city continued to discuss longer-term service needs. To be enacted, both the Mableton City Council and Cobb County Board of Commissioners would've had to vote in favor of the terms. With the city council rejecting the $9.5 million service agreement, both governments remain in discussion about how to move forward. Missed Out On LeBron's Barbie? We Found Worthy Substitutes
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 03: LeBron James #23 of the Los Angeles Lakers reacts against the Golden State Warriors during the second half of a game at Arena on April 03, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and or using this photograph, User is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. (Photo by) (Michael Owens via Getty Images) The LeBron James Barbie is selling like hot cakes on StockX, according to cllct . Don't get me wrong, I love a good collab and am mostly just upset I didn't grab one at cost, but if you missed out on the Barbie and don't want to pay over $150 for one on the secondary market, might I suggest these more reasonably priced LeBron James dolls and crafted goods on Etsy: Advertisement In my journey through Etsy I also came across this person who fake-autographed a card featuring LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant and apparently sold it for $45; it also included a fake COA. He sells 10s of thousands of these fake autographs with fake COAs and insists that they are real - which, of course, the card he says is 'real' that he's selling for $45 sells for over $10,000. People call him out in the comments but he insists that these cards are 'real' which, sure, they exist as a tangible thing, but he gets thousands and thousands of positive reviews from people he's scammed. He turns the anger on the buyer and basically says that calling these 'fake' is 'Facebook fake news' and Etsy just lets this all happen. What a time to be alive. While everyone is excited about the Paige Bueckers era of the WNBA, the other player you should have on your radar is Dominique Malonga, who was the second overall pick in the WNBA Draft last week. Advertisement At 6 feet, 6 inches Malonga, who is just 19 years old, is already being compared to Victor Wembanyama, which as you know for me is like the perfect carrot-on-a-stick comparison that might empty my bank account. Panini Instant already released her first rookie card, which you can find for $7 and likely will reach 10s of thousands on the print run - but my biggest beef is with Sports Illustrated for Kids, who missed on an opportunity to give us a chaser prior to the Draft. That would have been the card to grab. The other player that might have some sneaky value is the 10th overall pick Ajsa Sivka. Have I ever watched her play? No. Would I feel comfortable saying her name out loud? Nope. Advertisement However, she is also just 19 years old, drafted one spot ahead of Hailey Van Lith to the same Chicago Sun who might have the best collection of young talent in the league. Sivka could play the wing position alongside Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso for many years to come and potentially help lead them to a WNBA title. How's that for advice from someone who has seen neither of them play basketball? The NBA announced the finalists for the league awards this past week and one of the fun things with the MVP race is that it's a friendly reminder to not throw away those cards you tucked into a storage box. Advertisement Nikola Jokic was the 41st pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Giannis Antetokounmpo was the 15th pick in the 2013 draft and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the 11th pick in the 2018 draft. And even though SGA was fairly highly-regarded coming out of Kentucky, you can tell just how puzzling his ascension was given that Panini totally forgot to even put the 'RC' symbol on his rookie card . Probably an oversight as they were printing one billion copies of Luka Doncic's rookie card. If you're like me, once you get outside of the Top 10 and these players aren't on the team you PC, you start to think about 'making room' in the collection, if you know what I mean. Now, maybe, this is that friendly reminder to reconsider. These Cactus Jack Topps cards released at WrestleMania 41 look super cool. I don't know enough about wrestling to tell you whether or not the juice is worth the squeeze on them but man they look really slick. A woman named Bunny who has a massive collection of toy bunnies is selling her bunnies for a lot of money . If you're a toy bunny collector, hop to it. Advertisement She says she doesn't regret turning down £10K for one of her prized bunnies years ago, even though now it might fetch her only £4K (apparently bear markets impact the bunny market, too). As a lesson to young collectors, sometimes when you get an offer that seems too good to be true, it's often best to g-rabbit. Hope everyone got their Topps Now Snow White cards in the mail this week. Know this: those 3,000+ of us who bought that card may be crazy, but… no, that's all. We're crazy. Should we start a group on Mantel? Your collection deserves a community. Download Mantel today.

Mableton mayor announces 3rd straight year of no property taxes in city
Mableton Mayor Michael Owens announced Friday morning that the city would, for the third year in a row, not have property taxes for its residents. 'As a result, Mableton remains the only city in Cobb County that does not levy a municipal property tax on its residents,' according to a release from officials. The mayor said in a statement that the decision reflects both his, and the City Council's, 'deep commitment to smart, resident-focused growth and sound financial stewardship.' [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Within the next 60 days, Owens will notify the Cobb County Board of Tax Assessors and the Cobb County Tax Commissioner of the decision to continue the zero millage rate for the city. The city said the move was also due to how they generate revenue, and part of their commitment to not shift financial burdens onto homeowners. 'Mableton's revenue model is built on commercial occupational taxes, utility franchise fees, and targeted service fees, all of which support core city operations and community improvements. One notable initiative is the recently adopted Sanitation and Recycling Ordinance, which requires trash haulers operating within city limits to register with the city and pay a fee,' the city said. The fees instead are used to fund beautification projects, anti-littering campaigns and storefront improvement programs for local businesses, 'reinforcing Mableton's commitment to clean, vibrant, and economically healthy commercial corridors.' 'We are proud to continue serving the residents of Mableton without raising taxes. Through thoughtful planning and strong partnerships, we've shown that it's possible for us to transition essential city services from the county while keeping homeownership affordable,' Owens said in a statement. 'We remain committed to working hand-in-hand with Cobb County and our community as we grow—without the need for a city-level property tax.' [SIGN UP: WSB-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]

Mableton preparing to vote on ordinance to create city municipal court
The Mableton City Council has a process underway to potentially open its own local court system. At Wednesday's council meeting, members read an ordinance to create a Mableton Municipal Court, which would be used for cases involving warrants, writs, fines, traffic violations, citations, bail and other offenses. Should the proposed ordinance pass, and Mableton creates a municipal court, the city would have to secure a bailiff to serve the court, nominate court administrators and clerks, nominate a court solicitor, provide for the legal defense of indigent residents and nominate a chief judge and other judges to serve in one-year terms. Mableton Mayor Michael Owens told Channel 2 Action News that it was a first reading of the ordinance by the council. The council is expected to vote on the ordinance to approve or reject it on April 23, after a second read of it during the same meeting. Mookie Betts' bat still carries weight as he hammers 2 HRs, including a walk-off to beat Tigers and lift Dodgers to 4-0
Mookie Betts' bat still carries weight as he hammers 2 HRs, including a walk-off to beat Tigers and lift Dodgers to 4-0 Mookie Betts celebrates as he rounds the bases after hitting a walk-off three-run home run in the 10th inning against the Detroit Tigers. (Photo by Michael Owens/MLB Photos via Getty Images) (Michael Owens via Getty Images) A nasty mystery illness left Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts nearly 20 pounds lighter and had many doubting he'd be able to make much of an impact this week for his team. The Detroit Tigers didn't seem to notice a weaker Betts, who hit two home runs on Friday night, including a walk-off 3-run blast that lifted the Dodgers to an 8-5 victory in 10 innings. The Dodgers are 4-0. Betts' first homer of the season broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning, as it barely made it over the left field fence at about 396 feet. Advertisement Closer Tanner Scott blew the save as the Tigers' Manuel Margot had a game-tying RBI single in the ninth inning. A 2-run triple from Dillon Dingler the following inning put the Tigers up 5-3. The Dodgers' rallied quickly to tie the game on RBI hits from Michael Conforto (double) and Will Smith (single), setting the stage for Betts' heroics.
