Spartans to reportedly play regular NCAA Tournament team in season-opener
Michigan State basketball's season-opening opponent has been released. College basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported a handful of notable opening night matchups for the upcoming 2025-26 season, which included the Spartans' opener. According to Rothstein, Michigan State will play Colgate in the season-opener on November 3. The game will be played at the Breslin Center, according to Rothstein. Colgate went 14-19 last season, and finished in third place in the Patriot league. Prior to last year, Colgate had reached the previous four NCAA Tournaments and five of the last six. The full Michigan State schedule has not yet been released, but it should be coming out very soon. The Spartans will be playing an exhibition game at UConn in the middle of November as a prep matchup for this season opener against Colgate. Moneyball Pro-AM set to return in June for 20th season
The Moneyball Pro-Am has been a fixture of the Lansing basketball community since 2004, and it will officially return for its twentieth season later this month, as this year's season is set to begin on June 24 at Holt High School. The uniforms this year will feature a logo commemorating the 20th season. The Moneyball Pro-Am is known for showcasing Michigan State basketball players throughout their team rosters. This year's rosters will be unveiled later next week. Advertisement This year's games will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 24 with games at 6, 7 and 8pm. There will be no games the week of July 4th. The July 8 and 10 games will be played at Lansing Eastern High School. Jase Richardson stays in NBA draft, won't be returning to Michigan State basketball
The remote possibility of Jase Richardson returning to Michigan State basketball is now nil. Richardson will remain in the NBA draft pool after the NCAA's deadline to return for the 2025-26 season passed at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, according to Brett Siegel of Richardson entered the draft in early April. Advertisement In his one season with the Spartans, the 19-year-old combo guard averaged 12.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per games over 25.3 minutes. Richardson hit a team-leading 41.2% of his 3-point attempts and shot 49.3% overall. That included averaging 16.1 points and 30.5 minutes in starting MSU's final 15 games of its Big Ten regular-season championship season and run to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. He shot 42% from 3-point range while grabbing 4.6 rebounds and dishing out 1.7 assists per game over that span as the Spartans finished 30-7. Both were significantly lower than the 6-3 and 185 pounds he was listed at on MSU's roster for his freshman season. Advertisement Those diminished measurements have dropped Richardson, the son of former MSU star and NBA player Jason Richardson, in a number of mock drafts out of the lottery — he had been projected as a potential top-10 pick before the combine — and toward the back half of the first round for the June 25 draft. ESPN, Yahoo! Sports and dropped him to No. 16 (Orlando) in recent mock drafts, while Sports Illustrated and have him going at No. 20 (Miami).
