Transport ministry delegation visits Bahrain to enhance bilateral cooperation

DOHA: A delegation from the Ministry of Transport, headed by Dr Saleh Mohsen Fetais Al Marri, Assistant Undersecretary for Maritime Transport Affairs, has visited the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications in the sisterly Kingdom of Bahrain. During the visit, the Ministry's delegation met with Bader Hood Al Mahmoud, Undersecretary of Ports and Maritime Navigation at the Bahraini Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications. The meeting addressed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the areas of transportation infrastructure and the exchange of technical expertise, in a manner that serves common interests and aligns with sustainable development paths.

Singapore travel soars sevenfold at Bahrain Airport in April

Bahrain International Airport recorded 808,793 passengers in April, as traffic to several destinations more than doubled compared to the same month last year. The route to Singapore saw the steepest rise, with 11,476 passengers travelling there, up more than sevenfold from April 2024. The United Arab Emirates, with Sharjah and Dubai combined, accounted for the highest volume at 125,094 passengers, a rise of 12 per cent. Doha followed with 44,703 passengers, up by 20 per cent. Bengaluru recorded 14,732 passengers, marking an increase of 108 per cent. Departing passengers numbered 398,294, while 409,646 arrived. A further 853 travelled through the airport as transit passengers. Aircraft movements totalled 8,533. These included 4,266 departures and 4,267 arrivals. Another 42,509 aircraft passed through Bahraini airspace without landing. Cargo volumes also rose. The airport handled 32,973 tonnes in total, including 13,337 tonnes of imports, 9,196 tonnes of exports and 10,440 tonnes in transit. The data, published by the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, showed steady growth across all sectors of air traffic.

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications has invited bids for installing 36 bus shelters across Bahrain, as part of its 2025 works plan. Union Plastic submitted the highest offer at BD 510,705.112, while Awal Plastic submitted the lowest at BD 364,056.000. The shelters form part of a broader effort to improve public transport services. Separately, the Ministry of Housing is moving ahead with plans to construct 512 social apartment units in Madinat Salman. The project will be carried out on Island 12 and will span plots 15, 18 and 19. Madinat Salman lies on reclaimed land off Bahrain's northern coast, across from Budaiya, and is being developed as a mixed-use community designed to help meet demand for social housing. Fifteen contractors have submitted bids for the housing project. These include Santy Excavation and Contracting, Granada Contracting, Aseeri Engineering and Contracting, Mohammed Abdulmohsin Al Kharafi & Sons, Al Ghanim General Trading and Contracting, Sayed Kadhem Al Durazi & Sons, Al Ghanim International, the Al Khunaizi Group, Ahmed Mansoor Al Aali, Dar Al Khaleej, Almoayyed Contracting, Smart Skyline Contracting and Cebarco Bahrain. The ministry has already issued four tenders in Madinat Salman this year. Three fall under the Government Land Development Programme and account for a combined total of 649 homes. Also, the Capital Municipality is seeking contractors for the lease and maintenance of 171 Mobiz advertising sites located in Seef, Zinj, Sehla, Tubli, Adliya, Juffair, the Diplomatic Area and Al Hoora. Four advertising firms submitted offers. The highest came from Adline Media at BD 1,603,541.146, while the lowest was put forward by Group Plus Advertising at BD 338,623.092. The work is expected to improve the appearance of advertising across the city and ensure regular upkeep of the sites in line with accepted standards.

Transportation Undersecretary for Ports Attends UAE Maritime Week 2025

Dubai: Bader Hood Al Mahmood, Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, participated in the official opening of the UAE Maritime Week 2025, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre and organised by the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. According to Bahrain News Agency, the opening ceremony featured keynote addresses by senior officials, including Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, alongside representatives from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and DP World. UAE Maritime Week 2025 provided a prominent platform for stakeholders from across the maritime sector to build partnerships and explore future opportunities. As part of the programme, the Seatrade Maritime Logistics Middle East exhibition was held, offering a space for productive collaboration and support for the maritime transport industry.

Transportation Ministry signs contract with Bahrain Flour Mills to support food security

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, represented by the Ports and Maritime Affairs, signed a land lease agreement with Bahrain Flour Mills Company for a 89,061-square-metre plot in the Bahrain Logistics Zone. The land will be used to build an integrated industrial facility equipped with modern infrastructure and advanced silos to enhance the strategic reserve's storage capacity, in line with the highest standards of quality, health, safety, and sustainability. Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, emphasised the ministry's commitment to developing infrastructure, attracting investment, and supporting logistics services that reinforce and sustain the food security system. He highlighted that this approach falls within the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The minister highlighted the project's role in enhancing Bahrain Flour Mills' storage capabilities and improving distribution efficiency through integration with the Kingdom of Bahrain's transport and logistics networks. The initiative supports food security, diversifies and sustains supply chains, and meets local market needs in line with His Majesty the King's food security initiative and the National Food Security Strategy (2020–2030), aligned with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030. Basim Mohamed Alsaie, Chairman of Bahrain Food Holding Company and Bahrain Flour Mills Company, expressed appreciation to the minister for supporting this strategic project. He underlined its importance in expanding the company's operational and storage capabilities through the construction of modern silos and industrial facilities, enhancing the Kingdom's readiness to address global economic challenges related to food security. The contract signing was attended by Wayne Henry Craig, CEO of Bahrain Flour Mills Company. BNA(R)
