And Just Like That fans are left furious over mainstay characters who are 'in a race for biggest dummy'
Fans of And Just Like That season 3 were left furious following episode 8, as they accused the show's mainstay characters of vying to be the 'biggest dummy.' On Thursday, the latest episode of the Sex and the City spinoff, titled 'Happily Ever After', saw Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) reunite with boyfriend Aidan Shaw (John Corbett), and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) nearly relapse on alcohol. Despite having a long-distance relationship since Aiden moved to Virginia to be present for his children, he suddenly showed up to surprise Carrie at her New York apartment. However, he then revealed his jealousy over her relationship with handsome British downstairs neighbor, writer Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake), and 'manipulated' Carrie to cancel their writing session, prompting fans to label him 'insecure and toxic.' Meanwhile, after Miranda's love interest Joy (Dolly Wells) left a bottle of rum at her apartment, Miranda started telling her friends that perhaps she's not really an alcoholic, and was simply drinking before due to her unhappy marriage. 'Miranda and Carrie in a race for biggest dummy is crazy to watch,' one viewer wrote on X after the episode aired. 'Why is Carrie still into Aidan!?' someone else asked. 'I'm hating the blatant emotional manipulation with Aiden and Carrie this season why is she trying to stuff all her money and eggs into that terrible basket.' 'Did Aiden just manipulate Carrie?' another fan questioned. 'Why did they bring back the insecure and toxic Aidan? Carrie doesn't deserve to go through this after losing Big,' someone else chimed in. 'Carrie just go hang out with your hot neighbor. Send Aidan back to the woods.' 'Emotional manipulation. This dude Aiden gets worse and worse. When is Carrie going to wake up. This is so embarrassing.' Fans were also less than thrilled about Miranda's plot line, and how she did not tell Joy that she is an alcoholic. 'Old Miranda would NEVER think abstaining from drinking as an alcoholic was an over correction,' one wrote. 'Miranda gotta go LMAO,' someone else joked. 'When Joy finds out Miranda didn't tell her about the alcoholism she's gonna be pissed and break up with her. And rightfully so.' However, after spending the night together, he revealed his jealousy over her relationship with handsome downstairs neighbor, writer Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake), and 'manipulated' Carrie to cancel their writing session, prompting fans to label him 'insecure and toxic' 'Why is Carrie still into Aidan!?' one fans asked, as others also expressed frustration with Carrie for trying to make the relationship work After Carrie spent the night with Aidan, she started getting ready for her writing session with her handsome downstairs neighbor. However, Aiden seemed disappointed that she would be gone and told her that the real reason he came is because his son Wyatt moved back in with his mom and was not answering his texts. Carrie told him she would cancel her writing session so they could spend time together. Later, Aiden suggested they should invite Duncan to dinner. However, Carrie firmly turned down the offer. Aiden questioned what they talk about in their sessions. 'We just talk about work,' she replied. 'I find that hard to believe,' he replied. 'You two just sit there and look at each other and say, what, "Page 22 sucks"'? 'That's exactly right,' she replied. Later Aiden continued to dig to try to learn more about Duncan. While attending a gallery exhibit he asked Seema (Sarita Choudhury) and her new love interest, who is also Carrie's gardener, Adam (Logan Marshall-Green) about Duncan. However they provided him with little information. Meanwhile Miranda attempted to convince Carrie and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) that she doesn't have an alcohol problem. 'Maybe I'm not an alcoholic. Maybe I'm just alcohol-ish.' 'I am not familiar with that term,' Carrie replied. 'I haven't always been an alcoholic,' she went on, 'And I think the main reason I started drinking so much was that I was unhappy in my marriage, my career.' 'I was questioning my sexuality.' 'I understand questioning your sexuality, but questioning your alcoholism?' 'I'm just thinking that maybe I overcorrected. Maybe I'm the kind of person who occasionally enjoys a cocktail with her girlfriend at the end of the day.' Later she nearly had a sip of champagne but Charlotte stopped her. She also reached for the bottle of rum later on in the episode, but in the end doesn't drink it. The beloved Sex and the City series follows friends Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte and their tangled lives in New York City. Nicole Ari Parker and Sarita returned as the group's new besties Lisa and Seema this season. The show picks up 11 years after the events of the 2010 film Sex and the City 2, and follows three of the four original main characters. Following the success of Kim Cattrall 's cameo in the second season, it's been widely reported Samantha will return for at least part of the third season. Sara Ramirez will not be returning as controversial non-binary comedian Che Diaz (there's some disagreement as to whether this was because of their political posts, because of the end of the character's relationship with Miranda, or because viewers just found them so annoying). Since starting in December 2021, the Sex And The City spin-off has seen Carrie, Samantha and Charlotte grapple with sexuality, gender identity, death, grief, divorce, drug use, and pretty much every other hot issue in Western society. The original Sex and the City ran for six seasons, airing on HBO from 1998 until 2004. The story continued with two feature films: Sex and the City (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010). The first season of And Just Like That... premiered in 2021. There will be 12 episodes in And Just Like That… season 3, with the last premiering on August 14.

Carrie Bradshaw blasted as 'insufferable' as she feuds with Miranda over hot neighbor on And Just Like That
The latest episode of the Sex and The City sequel, And Just Like That, saw two best friends feuding. Things came to a head between Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) on episode 7, titled 'They Wanna Have Fun.' Carrie has been busy trying to make her rocky long-distance romance with Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) work, but recently formed a friendship with her handsome downstairs neighbor, British writer Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake). In the new episode Carrie threw a party for pal Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), which Duncan attended. The duo enjoyed the festivities together. But when Miranda brought up their growing bond, Carrie got offended and appeared to think her friend was trying to insinuate something romantic was going on between them. Fans on social media seemed to side with Miranda, with one blasting Carrie as 'insufferable' and another writing, 'Carrie was talking to Miranda crazy. She really is a terrible friend.' 'Carrie is still such a brat. And Aiden sucks. Enough, please,' another wrote. 'Carrie is insufferable. She can't even accept an accurate observation from good friend Miranda and constantly puts her on the defensive. Forget about the fact that Miranda is not even close to her original character but Carrie is truly insecure and it's hard to watch.' 'Carrie & miranda having the same fights years later.' 'I need Carrie to move on from Aiden FOR GOOD.' 'Of course Miranda is the only one to talk sense to Carrie. Of course Carrie got defensive immediately. Same script, different year.' 'Miranda is annoying but she is spot on about Carrie and Aiden!' 'Nothing Miranda said wasn't true and that's why Carrie is salty af.' The scene takes place when Miranda stays to chat with Carrie after the guests leave, and playfully mentions that she saw her having fun with Duncan. An irritated Carrie snaps, 'Yes, I laughed and I sipped a drink. What are you saying?' 'Wait, are you upset?' Miranda questions. 'I don't understand what's happening right now. We were just doing a fun little party debrief.' When Miranda brought up their growing bond, Carrie got offended and appeared to think her friend was trying to insinuate something romantic was going on between them 'Wait, are you upset?' Miranda questions. 'I don't understand what's happening right now. We were just doing a fun little party debrief' 'Miranda, I'm in a relationship,' Carrie quips. 'Well, of course you are. I was just saying, it was nice to see you having fun,' a confused Miranda replies 'Miranda, I'm in a relationship,' Carrie quips. 'Well, of course you are. I was just saying, it was nice to see you having fun.' 'I don't have fun?' Carrie questioned her friend. 'I'm not saying anything is going on,' Miranda explained. 'Sometimes it seems like you're working so hard with Aiden,' Miranda shares. 'Well, yes, I guess I am. Not all relationships are effortless.' 'Yes, I got it,' Miranda replies. 'Yes, maybe I laughed and had a sip of Scotch. I am allowed to laugh and sip Scotch,' Carrie went on. The two continue going back and forth until Miranda apologizes for mentioning it. Earlier in the episode Carrie chats with Duncan about her book manuscript, and he tells her that the first chapter is 'brilliant.' She then invites him to a party party she is throwing for Charlotte. During the party they have a private chat on the balcony, where he goes on to compliment her writing once again. The episode ends with Carrie sitting in her apartment after the party, cradling her cat Shoe, when one of the balloons suddenly bursts, seemingly foreshadowing more drama for Carrie in the upcoming episodes He tells her that the first chapter of her book is 'brilliant' Miranda proceeds to have have a conversation with Harry, telling him, 'I just wanted you to know that when the unthinkable happens, of course Charlotte will be devastated by the loss, but we'll be there for her' He confronts his wife, asking, 'Did you tell Miranda about my situation?' She replies: 'Of course not, you asked me not to tell anyone' The episode also introduced Patti LuPone, 76, as Gia, the mother of Anthony's (Mario Cantone) boyfriend Giuseppe (Sebastiano Pigazzi). While Carrie and Gia hit it off, Anthony does not make a great first impression on his partner's mom. Elsewhere Carrie struggles not to reveal to Miranda that Charlotte's husband Harry (Evan Handler) has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. However, Miranda senses that something is going on, and when she refuses to let the subject drop, Carrie lies and says that it's Charlotte's bulldog who has cancer. Later during her party, Charlotte is confused when Miranda insists on taking photos of her with the dog. Miranda proceeds to have have a conversation with Harry, telling him, 'I just wanted you to know that when the unthinkable happens, of course Charlotte will be devastated by the loss, but we'll be there for her.' She walks aways, leaving Harry stunned and thinking that she knows about his cancer. He confronts his wife, asking, 'Did you tell Miranda about my situation?' 'Of course not, you asked me not to tell anyone,' she replies. Charlotte then asks Carrie if she told Miranda, and she confesses that she made up the story about her dog having a tumor. Tired of the secrets, Henry gathers all of Charlotte's friends in the kitchen to reveal the truth. Joy (played by Dolly Wells), Miranda's new romantic interest, is also introduced to the group at the party. Earlier on it's shown that Seema suffered an eye infection from eyelash extensions, and she goes on to attend the party with a Louis Vuitton eyepatch covering her eye While at the bash, Adam tells her he broke up with his girlfriend. After he confesses his single status she becomes uncomfortable and tries to quietly leave However, he then serenades with a Karaoke song While at the party, Gia proceeds to grill Anthony about his bakery, and the skimpy uniforms his workers wear. 'I'd like to know more about you and your business, Anthony,' she tells him. Anthony seems pleasantly surprised by her interest, until she asks: 'So, you're selling sex, yes?' 'Uh, no I'm selling bread,' he tells her. 'Yes, bread, but with a bulge. The uniform is all about sex, yes?' 'Well, I think it's more about fun. It's just fun.' 'So you think sex is just about fun? Interesting,' she asks. She then tells him he seems 'nervous' as Anthony begins snacking on a pretzel stick. 'Of course I'm nervous, I want you to like me.' 'Interesting,' she replies. Later on Gia makes a jab at his romance with her son, saying she thinks it's 'tragic' when 'someone older lusts after someone younger.' It's also revealed that Charlotte's daughter Lily (Cathy Ang) is going through her first breakup. Elsewhere in the episode Seema (Sarita Choudhury) has a flirty encounter with Carrie's gardener, Adam Gardens (Logan Marshall-Green.) The ‘Sex and the City' Resurgence Has a Secret Ingredient: Contempt
When I think of my childhood, and the moments that would have made it difficult for my parents to imagine I was anything other than a latent homosexual, I see myself sitting pretzel-style at the foot of an almond-colored couch while my mother and her three best friends drink martinis and watch 'Sex and the City.' I was too taken with the show's glamour and prurience to register the uncanny dynamic: Here were four cosmopolitan 30-something women, mostly single or divorced, convening to watch television's foremost avatars of 30-something cosmopolitanism discuss the vagaries of sex and dating. I could not possibly have felt as 'seen' by Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte as my mother and her girlfriends probably did — but I did think of these ladies as fairy godmothers of a sort, telegraphing a future where I too might gather over frothy cocktails at trendy Manhattan establishments to debate the merits of bisexuality or golden showers. More than two decades later, we are experiencing a 'Sex and the City' resurgence. First came the premiere, late in 2021, of a limp postscript of a show called 'And Just Like That …,' which is currently trudging through its third season. Then, last year, the original series arrived on Netflix, introducing the show to younger viewers, who took more to its screwball cadence than its bygone sense of glamour. 'Sex and the City,' they found, was bizarrely suitable to the tongue-in-cheek conventions of internetspeak, and so the show has lately birthed a whole litany of memes. In almost all of them, the characters are treated as objects of amusement, not aspiration. One clever joke poked fun at Carrie's tendency to listen to her friends' predicaments and then respond with exasperating recapitulations of her own. Charlotte remarks on, say, the earthquake that hit New York City last year. Miranda, always smug, insists that the Richter scale is obsolete, while Samantha, always horny, wisecracks about a man who made her walls shake. And of course Carrie, whose pick-me solipsism has become a point of fascination for newcomers, declares that 'Big is moving to Paris!' — wrenching the conversation back to the emotionally unavailable tycoon who would torture her for years before dying, unceremoniously, of a Peloton-induced heart attack. This is how we've all come to regard the ladies of 'Sex and the City,' even those of us for whom they once represented some pinnacle of refinement: They now read like parodies of themselves, characters we regard with a sort of loving derision. It's a testament not only to the comforting rhythms of the sitcom format but also to this show's genuine achievements in characterization: No matter how much these women annoy or exasperate us, we know them so intimately that we can always imagine, with a reasonable degree of both accuracy and scorn, how each might react to any given topic. And this is what makes 'And Just Like That …' such a strange and fascinating product: It is a reboot that feels, at times, openly hostile to its own source material and even to the characters themselves. It cannot seem to resist subjecting them to mounting humiliations, either in a clumsy effort to atone for the minor sin of the original's tone-deafness or, perhaps, because viewers actually want to see beloved characters tormented this way. The characters register as lab rats in a sadistic experiment with camp and caricature. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Cynthia Nixon loves playing 'juicy characters'
Cynthia Nixon feels she's able to "show so many more colours" in her characters at her age. The 59-year-old actress is best known for portraying Miranda Hobbes in the Sex and the City series, films and spin-off series And Just Like That..., while she also stars as Ada Brook in hit historical drama The Gilded Age. Cynthia admits she loves getting her teeth into "juicy characters" and prefers playing those who aren't "always nice". She told Best UK magazine: "It has always been the same, just very juicy characters. "I love characters who aren't always nice or who don't always do the right thing. "I'm excited to be at an age where I feel I am being allowed to show so many more colours and have so many more strings in my bow. "The characters I am playing now are so different from what I have done before. The rest is about who I'm excited to work with, be directed by and what writers are creating the character and the story." Cynthia insists it's only "10 per cent curse" that some people will only ever associate her with Miranda. She explained: "It's a tremendous blessing. "I am so proud of the show, the films and everything else. I love that people are still watching and that new people are discovering it. "Miranda gave me so many opportunities. She opened doors for me that never would have been open had it not been for that role. "The only real downside is if people only think of me as that character, but I have been lucky to be offered different kinds of roles. Asked if it's at all frustrating, she replied: "No, 90 per cent per cent blessing and 10 per cent curse maybe [laughs]. I am so proud of Miranda, the shows and the films."

Fans left stunned by Miranda's full frontal nudity while Samantha makes surprise return to And Just Like That
Fans of Max's And Just Like That... saw a whole lot more of Cynthia Nixon 's Miranda Hobbes than they likely expected in Thursday's new Season 3 episode. Thursday's fifth episode of Season 3 - entitled Under the Table - found Miranda temporarily moving in with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), after being confronted by a nude male neighbor wielding a cleaver. Things get awkward when Carrie kicks her cat Shoe out of the bedroom, only to find Miranda going back to her guest room, fully nude! Aside from the double-dose of full frontal nudity, fans were also quite stunned to get a surprise (digital) cameo from Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall). Unfortunately, fans didn't get to see Samantha in the flesh, but she did share a racy opinion with Carrie when asked. Fans didn't hesitate to take to social media to express their shock at tonight's episode on Max. The Miranda nude scene was a shock to Carrie, not because she saw her old friend in the buff, but because she thought she wasn't there in the first place. Miranda had planned to spend the night at her new potential love interest Joy (Dolly Wells), though Joy's Italian greyhound dogs won't stop whining, ending the tryst early. After gently placing Shoe in the hall, Carrie is stunned to find a nude Miranda in the hall, walking back to her guest room. 'I thought you were at Joy's?' Carrie asked, as Miranda responded, 'Her dogs wouldn't stop whining, so...' The episode also reveals that Carrie has a new downstairs neighbor, a British writer named Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake), who her friends are big fans of. Their stint as neighbors gets off to a rocky start as they first meet when Duncan complains about Carrie walking around in heels all day, keeping him awake since he works nights, writing his new book. After learning that her friends all know who he is - and that Miranda is a huge fan - Carrie decides to text her old friend Samantha Jones, though we never see Samantha in the flesh. Carrie asks, 'What do you know about Duncan Reeves?' Samantha responds, 'They say he's a lot of fun. Why?' Carrie responds, 'He's living under me,' and Samantha fires back, 'I wish he was under me,' which makes Carrie chuckle. Carrie tells Miranda that, 'Samantha says that Duncan Reeves is known to be fun,' as Miranda adds, 'Well, he's like 6'5", so that's her kind of fun.' Many fans were stunned to see Miranda in the buff, like @xomakiyah, who said in all caps, 'MA'AM ????? WHERE ARE YOUR CLOTHES.' Others like @sagevalentine used a GIF of Dan Levy from Schitt's Creek saying, 'OH MY GOD,' adding 'Miranda! #andjustlikethat #AJLT.' The nude encounter was just the first awkward one between Carrie and Miranda, with Carrie waking up the next morning, finding a fully-clothed Miranda eating her last yogurt and last banana, which some, like @jspagano, found to be quite rude. 'Miranda is such a thoughtless gross woman. Walking nude around the house? Eating Carrie's food and being so dismissive. Ugh. She's the worst character on this show from the get go,' the X user said. Others like @mzcaramelbunni were shocked at the male full frontal nudity, tweeting, 'Really?!! Wtf a naked man wielding a s**t is comical but so not funny.' Many were also shocked at Samantha's digital cameo, especially after the Max X account teased it by showing Samantha's contact in Carrie's phone on Thursday. 'Miranda is such a thoughtless gross woman. Walking nude around the house? Eating Carrie's food and being so dismissive. Ugh. She's the worst character on this show from the get go,' the X user said. X user @J_adoreDiDi quote-retweeted and said, 'My heart skipped a beat. #AndJustLikeThat.' Another fan - @pinsleric - admitted, 'Even just literal texts from Samantha make this show better #andjustlikethat.' Ladybug Lizzie (@sagevalentine) tweeted an OMG GIF, adding, 'Carrie is texting with Samantha. #andjustlikethat #AJLT.' Elsewhere in the episode, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) started freaking out after her husband Harry (Evan Handler) revealed he has prostate cancer, which explained why he had trouble in bed and why he peed himself at the club earlier this season. Harry insisted he would survive - since prostate cancer has a 98% survival rate - but made Charlotte promise not to tell anybody, for fear of becoming, 'the cancer guy.' Charlotte managed to keep her promise, though it was tested during a 'glamping' trip with Lisa Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) and her husband (Chris Jackson) and their kids. Seema (Sarita Choudhury) - after learning she was essentially forced out of her real estate company - took the first step to branching out on her own. She approached a bank for a loan to pay for a space for her new business, and despite her best pitch to the lady loan clerk, she was rejected. After a tense start to their neighborship, Carrie rushed into action after a smoke alarm went off in his unit, which he did not hear through headphones, immersed in his work. Since his dinner was ruined, they went out to eat and got to know each other and what types of books they write. While Carrie took Duncan's simple suggestion of not wearing heels in her apartment as a major affront to her fashionable sensibilities, the dinner seemed to change her tune. The episode ends with Carrie getting home from the dinner, and, seemingly for the first time in ages, she takes her heels off, for him. And Just Like That returns with the sixth episode of the third season on Thursday, July 3 at 9 PM ET/6 PM ET on Max.
