Lady Bears land guard from Texas
Hello everyone, I'm Dan Lucy on the Ozarks First digital desk. Tis the season for college basketball coaches to restock their roster. In our Bear Nation update. It's Beth Cunningham's turn with the Missouri State Lady Bears. Today Cunningham announced that 5-foot-5 guard Victoria Dixon has signed with the Lady Bears. Dixon will be a senior with one year of eligibility. She played last season at Houston Christian where she averaged six points and one rebound a game coming off the bench. Dixon shot 37 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line. Dixon played her sophomore season at Alabama A&M and started her collegiate career at Tyler Junior College. Cunningham says the Grand Prairie, Texas native brings experience and is a ball handling, play making guard in the back court. Cunningham also liked the aggressive defensive mind set of Victoria Dixon. For more sports watch Ozarks First news at nine and ten. And I'll see you then. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Ozarks Digitial Desk: Recapping Lady Bears 1st Round WBIT Victory
SPRINGFIELD–The Missouri State Lady Bears emphatically earned their first postseason victory, under Beth Cunningham, in a record-setting performance against Oral Roberts in the first round of the WBIT. MSU scored a program record 107 points in the team's 31-point victory against the Golden Eagles. It broke the previous mark of 104 points set back in 2001, by the Jackie Styles led SMS Final Four team, who beat Washington 104-87 in the Elite 8. With Thursday night's win, the Lady Bears will get to host their round two contest against Minnesota. There were just over 2,000 fans in attendance at Great Southern Bank Arena for Thursday night, but with Spring Break coming to an end on Sunday, their might be a higher turnout. Head Coach Beth Cunningham is hoping so. She said after the game that her team is 'worth the price of admission,' and anyone who's watched this squad for most of the season can certainly echo that sentiment. Take a listen to Chris Pinson and Dan recap the victory and listen to Coach Cunningham and Lacy Stokes with their postgame comments in the latest breakdown. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Lacy Stokes: A Lady Bear for Life
SPRINGFIELD–As long as she can remember, Lacy Stokes has been a lifelong fan of the Missouri State Lady Bears basketball program. The Mount Vernon product was a star guard for her high school and then, a star at Division II Missouri Southern State University. But ever since Stokes transferred to Missouri State to fulfil her childhood dream of playing for her favorite team, she's made an impact that will long outlive her two years in maroon and white. She's been the leader of the Lady Bears pack for only the past 2 seasons, but her love affair with Missouri State dates long before she arrived on campus. 'I think if you've heard my story, I've been a Bear since the very beginning,' said Stokes. 'And so, having the success I've had with this team, playing with the girls that I've been with, playing for coach Cunningham and this whole staff, this whole environment, Springfield, Missouri, you just feel the love everywhere.' After transferring from Missouri Southern State last year, Stokes quickly endeared herself to the MSU faithful. Racking up nine conference Player of the Week honors, and nearly leading Mo State to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title. 'I've coached a lot of kids along the way, I've coaches a lot of really good players, some great players, but I don't think I've ever had a kid play as hard on both ends of floor for the entire game as she does,' said Lady Bears Head Coach Beth Cunningham. Saturday afternoon, when Stokes is honored on Senior Day, more tears will flow, especially from her teammates. 'She's…been the biggest blessing that I've had coming to this school,' said teammate Kaemyn Bekemeier. 'And I didn't commit here knowing she was gonna be here, but I'm really glad the Lord put us together and I'm really grateful.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
