Montgomery College launches cybersecurity training program with statewide initiative
ROCKVILLE, Md. ()– Montgomery College is joining a statewide effort to strengthen Maryland's cybersecurity workforce. The college will hold a ribbon-cutting event Wednesday to mark the launch of its participation in the Maryland Cyber Workforce Accelerator (CWA) program. MoCo Minute | Montgomery County announces $2.8 billion investment for East County's Viva White Oak Established in 2024 by the Maryland Association of Community Colleges and BCR Cyber, the CWA program provides cyber ranges—advanced simulation systems that mimic real-world cyberattacks—to all 16 of the state's community colleges. Montgomery College students will now have access to the BCR Cyber Series 3000 Cyber Range, allowing them to train in a high-tech environment designed to build real-time cybersecurity skills. The new system enables both students and faculty to simulate cyber incidents, respond to threats and gain hands-on experience in network defense and digital forensics. Montgomery County announces $2.8 billion investment for East County's Viva White Oak
SILVER SPRING, Md. () — Montgomery County announced its first-ever Tax Increment Financing (TIF) proposal to support . The $2.8 billion mixed-use development project aims to transform East County with new jobs, housing, and infrastructure. Once complete, Viva White Oak is expected to deliver more than 9,000 permanent jobs, nearly 5,000 homes, and 27,000 construction jobs. Plans include commercial, residential, retail, and public spaces, along with new parks, bike lanes, and water and sewer infrastructure. 'At the Viva White Oak property, we have an excellent development team coming to the County with a plan to get shovels in the ground and open up the new chapter in economic development that District 5 residents have been waiting for. I have seen firsthand the high value that MCB places on community engagement and local collaboration, and I look forward to taking the next step to bring this opportunity to fruition,' said Councilmember Kristin Mink. Purple Line enters dynamic testing phase in Maryland, launch set for 2027
MARYLAND () — The Purple Line in Maryland is one step closer to opening. On Thursday, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration announced the start of dynamic testing for all eight light rail vehicles. The testing will take place on the one-mile test track near the Operations and Maintenance Facility along Veterans Parkway in Prince George's County. MoCo Minute | Grants available for small businesses along Purple Line The Purple Line project is about 76% complete, and officials said seeing the light rail vehicles on the track shows its continued progress. 'Moving into the dynamic testing phase is a testament to the extraordinary collaboration of the Maryland Transit Administration, Purple Line Transit Partners, Maryland Transit Solutions and Purple Line Transit Operators along with support from our local and state elected officials,' said Ray Biggs, II, MTA Senior Project Director for the Purple Line During the testing phase, crews will monitor the light rail vehicles as they go back and forth on the track to evaluate the mechanical system under real-world conditions. While evaluating the 142-foot light rail vehicles, team members will check onboard components such as braking, propulsion, electrical, signaling and communications systems. The Purple Line Transit Operators will conduct the testing during the day and night. Once this phase is complete, future testings will involve the trains running on longer sections of the mainline track. Officials noted that dynamic testing is expected to continue throughout 2026 as new light rail vehicles are received. This is a critical step to kickstarting service in late 2027.
