Three OTs at Watkins Glen produce sixth Truck Series victory of 2025 for Corey Heim

A roller-coaster finish to the Mission 176 at The Glen concluded the same way several races have this year in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series — with Corey Heim taking the checkered flag. Heim, 23, went three overtimes for his sixth victory in 17 races this season Friday, Aug. 8 at Watkins Glen International. The Georgia native denied multiple overtake bids from runner-up Daniel Hemric over the two-lap third overtime that wrapped up an 81-lap race that was scheduled for 72. The first two overtimes were cut short by crashes behind the leaders, cautions No. 8 and 9 of the day, before clean racing brought out the white flag signaling the final lap. Heim, driver of the No. 11 Mobil 1 Toyota, led 44 of 81 laps and secured his fourth consecutive road-course victory, including two this year. It was his 17th career Truck Series win. Gio Ruggiero finished third, Christopher Bell fourth and Tyler Ankrum fifth. Watkins Glen hosted its first Truck Series race since 2021 and third in the last 25 years. Bell led from lap 42 until lap 71 before he was overtaken by Heim off the restart of the first overtime. Bell ended up needing to pit for fuel before battling back for fourth. Bell, the 2017 Truck Series champion and now a regular in the Cup Series, filled in this weekend in the No. 52 Toyota for Stewart Friesen. Friesen fractured his pelvis and right leg during a dirt modified crash July 28 at Autodrome Drummond in Quebec, Canada. Heim's fuel window was running short late, but he had enough to withstand Hemric's charge and get to the finish line. Margin of victory was .202 of a second. Heim started from the pole and won the first 20-lap stage, but he got caught up in traffic following a pit stop and had to work his way into position to make a run at Bell. "I got behind on that last stage," Heim said. "I was scratching and clawing trying to get back through the field. I had my brakes pretty much go out completely on me. I was beating them up trying to get back through the field. Blew the Bus Stop, made a lot of mistakes myself. "We've had a lot of them get away from us this year by cautions or whatever else, failures. We finally had one go our way and had some opportunities to finish it off, then a couple more at the end for good measure." More: Tristan McKee (almost) makes history with win in ARCA Menards Series race at Watkins Glen Hemric maneuvered side-by-side with Heim multiple times over the final two laps but couldn't get past him. "That's going to hurt for a while," Hemric said. "I've got, what, six days until the next race? This is going to be on my mind until then probably." Chris Buescher, defending winner of the Go Bowling at The Glen Cup Series race, finished 22nd in his Truck Series debut. Frankie Muniz, star of the 2000s sitcom "Malcolm in the Middle," placed 27th and two-time WGI Cup winner Kyle Busch ended up last in the 36-truck field because of a steering issue. Ben Rhodes took the second 20-lap stage. Mission 176 at The Glen Results 1. (1) Corey Heim, Toyota, 81. 2. (17) Daniel Hemric, Chevrolet, 81. 3. (5) Giovanni Ruggiero #, Toyota, 81. 4. Emelia Hartford Prepares For Intense Pikes Peak Race In Porsche GT4 RS

Legendary car builder, YouTube icon, actress, and professional race car driver Emelia Hartford is preparing to tackle one of the world's most challenging hill climb routes, Pikes Peak, as she enters the prestigious GT4 class. Backed by Mobil 1, supported by Porsche Colorado Springs and BBI Autosport, Hartford is busy testing the 500 bhp Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport that will carve its way towards Pikes Peak's 14,000ft summit via 156 turns during the 2025 'Race to the Clouds". Support also comes from Pikes Peak Hall of Famer Jeff Zwart. 'Working with Jeff Zwart and the entire Mobil 1 team is truly an honor. Jeff is not just a legendary driver—he's a mentor who brings a level of calm intensity that's contagious; I joke he is Master Yoda. The man knows this mountain physically and mentally. Every bit of advice he gives is rooted in both precision and wisdom, and it's taught me to think differently about how I approach a run like this. And of course, running with the Mobil 1 team, a brand with a legacy of performance and innovation is truly a dream come true' Hartford tells Matthew MacConnell. Emelia Hartford at 2025 Pikes Peak Emelia Hartford Over the 12.5-mile route, Hartford will face rapidly changing weather conditions and extreme altitude—the ultimate test of both women and machine. However, she's no stranger to intense racing after recently smashing a world record at Famaso Dragstrip, California. When asked how she'll stay focused during the intense race, Hartford replied 'Focus, for me, comes somewhat easily. I am openly a bit obsessive when I dive into something. When I'm on that mountain, I'm not thinking about anything, it's kind of the only time that seems to happen. Pure bliss, no fear, no distractions just me vs the mountain. One challenge honestly is staying on my content game. I usually am very active in sharing my life with the world but that has been a bit more difficult when being so focused and locked in with my driving. Instead of shooting, editing, and posting I have been studying the road, watching driving footage, running the sim, and trying to memorize and visualize every section of the course. And honestly, the mountain demands your full attention, it's mostly blind turns at full throttle so it's not hard to stay focused when every corner could be your last.' Emelia Hartford at 2025 Pikes Peak Emelia Hartford Participating in Pikes Peak is a dream for many, including Hartford who said she set a goal to take her driving to the next level this year while working towards racing professionally in the most important and iconic motorsports races. 'We are starting with a bang with Pikes Peak. I watched Pikes Peak since I first got into cars, it's one of those races you dream about but is also more intimidating than most, and I don't get intimidated easily. It's not just a race, it's like nothing else on earth, it's a mountain with a serious legacy. Getting the chance to compete here feels like stepping into something sacred. It's intimidating, sure—but it's also a moment of growth for me, both as a driver and as a person. I've been through a lot in life, so I really live for moments like this!' Luckily, Hartford feels positive about the Mobil 1-powered 'dialed and balanced' Porsche GT4 RS that will take her to the top. Emelia Hartford's Porsche GT4 RS Emelia Hartford 'It really is very planted and predictable. It gives you confidence without taking away the respect you need to have for the road. It's been great driving something that I don't have to second guess so I can focus on the mountain more than the car. And of course, having Mobil 1 keeps my race car running smooth and strong – which is exactly what you need when every bit of engine power counts on such a tough mountain climb like Pikes Peak. I'm smiling cheek to cheek on every run.' Austin Johansen, North America Mobil 1 marketing manager, said "We're excited to welcome Emelia to her first 'Race to the Clouds' and protect the cars of seven drivers who rely on our products to power them through this challenging 12.42-mile course. It's really rewarding to be part of such an iconic event that motorsports fans everywhere look forward to.' Good luck, Emelia!

V8 Supercars: Supercars sophomore Ryan Wood claims maiden win at Perth Super 440, Brodie Kostecki improves

Supercars sophomore Ryan Wood has sparked emotional celebrations with his maiden race victory as local boy Brodie Kostecki showed signs he may be able to steal his first win of the year in Perth. Australia's premier motorsport championship made a well-behaved start to the Perth Super 440 at Raceway in Wanneroo, with not a single flag flown or safety car deployed. Wood barely put a foot wrong after starting second on the grid, capturing the lead 10 laps in before fending off a roaring finish from reigning champion Will Brown in the final five laps to salute in front of the West Australian faithful. Kostecki fell two places from his third-place start but showed major improvements after only managing 18th fastest in practice on Friday, a huge boost to his hopes across the weekend. Wood made the most of the outside line off the starting grid but was outmaneuvered into the first turn as pole-sitter Chaz Mostert held onto the lead. Kostecki left too much room for championship leader Broc Feeney on the inside to slip out of the podium places off the line. It forced the Perth boy to settle in behind him, and he steadily lost time in the dirty air while also fending off Will Brown and Matt Payne as they battled behind him. Mostert's lead evaporated on lap ten of 50, Wood side-by-side with him on the inside through turn seven before making the most of a better exit to capture the lead through turn one. Feeney was the first to pull the trigger on a pit stop, taking two new tyres in an impressive 3.6-second change on lap 22 and forcing Wood to react. The move worked perfectly for Feeney, Wood's rear tyres forcing a slow stop to leave the young gun on the race leader's bumper after his rejoin. The call to leave Mostert out past the halfway mark cost the Mobil1 driver; a slow pit stop dumping him out behind Kostecki in fifth. However, it was the best possible result for the fans as Mostert and the hometown hero renewed hostilities, going bumper-to-bumper and crisscrossing into and out of turns seven and one. In the end, Mostert's new set of tyres made the difference, Kostecki unable to win his spot back a second time. Red Bull teammates Feeney and Will Brown rubbed shoulders as the race reached the pointy end. And the reigning champion was given the green light to race Feeney, grabbing second with 12 laps to go before making a run at Wood that came up narrowly short.
