'Jose Riveiro wanted me back' – U/20 international
Egypt U/20 international Ahmed Khaled Kabaka says Jose Riveiro wanted him to return to Al Ahly following his loan spell at Modern Sport. The midfielder also credited former Modern Sport coach Talaat Yousef and the club's CEO Haitham Orabi, giving him the motivation to perform well during the brief loan spell 'My loan period was a success, and being promoted from the youth team to the first team with the coach's trust is a wonderful feeling,' Kabaka said as per Soccer Laduma . 'Haitham Orabi played a big role in giving me confidence and motivating me to do my best.' 'Despite the difficulty of that stage, with changes in coaches and the jump from one level to another, I consider it a successful experience. I thank Talaat Youssef, who made a big difference in my character both on and off the pitch. He taught me discipline and what it means to be a true professional,' Kabaka added. The 20-year-old said the former Orlando Pirates coach pushed for him to return to Al Ahly before his loan deal concluded. 'Returning to Al Ahly was an important step in my career,' said the youngster. 'The decision to cut my loan short came from coach Jose Riveiro, who watched me before the Club World Cup. Wearing the Al Ahly shirt is an honour for any player.' 'Playing among big-name stars at Al Ahly makes getting a chance difficult, but I believe in my potential and will fight for an opportunity,' Kabaka said. 'I received offers after the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, but I've always respected the club's decisions. I'm at the club's service—whether I stay or move abroad, I'll be proud of whatever decision is made about my future,' he concluded. Jose Riveiro has not had a good start to his Al Ahly tenure. The team performed poorly at the FIFA Club World Cup, failing to reach the next round of the competition. The 49-year-old Spaniard has introduced an intense fitness programme for pre-season as he looks to improve his side following a poor 2024/25 season. Modern Sport sign former Zamalek goalkeeper Abou Gabal - Egyptian Football
Egyptian Premier League side Modern Sport have announced the signing of former Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract with NBE Club this summer. Abou Gabal joined NBE Club in September 2022 after a move to Saudi side Al-Nassr fell through, completing a free transfer from Zamalek. The 36-year-old goalkeeper made just one appearance for NBE last season after recovering from knee ligament surgery. The former Enppi and Smouha shot-stopper gained widespread recognition for his instrumental role in Egypt's run to the final of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. He stepped in for Ahly's injured Mohamed El-Shennawy, and his performances helped the Pharaohs reach the final, where they were narrowly defeated by Senegal in a penalty shootout. Abou Gabal, who is affectionately known as "Gabaski," also featured for Egypt in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as El-Shennawy's replacement. After starting his professional career with Enppi in 2010, Abou Gabal went on to become Zamalek's first-choice goalkeeper, following his standout performances at the 2021 AFCON. Modern Sport narrowly avoided relegation last season after the Egyptian Pro League decided to cancel relegation for the current campaign. The Cairo-based club also appointed Magdy Abdel-Atty as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Magdy Abdel-Atty named Modern Sport new coach - Egyptian Football
Egyptian Premier League side Modern Sport have appointed Magdy Abdel-Atty as their new coach, the Cairo-based club announced on Thursday. Related Ittihad of Alexandria appoint Ahmed Sami as new coach Abdel-Atty replaces Algerian coach Abdelhak Benchikha, who parted ways with the club following a string of poor results. Modern Sport had been widely tipped for relegation last season, but escaped the drop after the Egyptian Pro League cancelled relegation for the current campaign. Abdel-Atty began last season in charge of another Egyptian Premier League club, ZED FC, but was dismissed midway through the campaign due to poor performances. He later took charge of Ittihad of Alexandria before leaving at the end of the season. Modern Sport sack coach Franck Dumas amid bottom-side struggles - Egyptian Football
Egyptian Premier League team Modern Sport sacked coach Franck Dumas after just one win in 12 matches leaving them at the bottom of the table. Modern Sport is currently 18th with seven points. They have won one game, lost seven, and recorded four draws. Their most recent setback, a 2-1 defeat against Ghazl El-Mahalla in the 12th round, was the final blow for Dumas. The club confirmed that assistant coaches Ahmed Saleh and Ahmed Abu Muslim will take charge on an interim basis for Thursday's fixture against Talae El-Geish while they search for a new foreign head coach. Dumas, 57, leaves after a disappointing tenure in which his only win came against Zamalek, thanks to a goal from Joseph Jonathan. Modern Sport will hire a new manager soon to improve their situation and escape the relegation zone.
