Modern Sport sack coach Franck Dumas amid bottom-side struggles - Egyptian Football

Al-Ahram Weekly13-02-2025
Egyptian Premier League team Modern Sport sacked coach Franck Dumas after just one win in 12 matches leaving them at the bottom of the table.
Modern Sport is currently 18th with seven points. They have won one game, lost seven, and recorded four draws. Their most recent setback, a 2-1 defeat against Ghazl El-Mahalla in the 12th round, was the final blow for Dumas.
The club confirmed that assistant coaches Ahmed Saleh and Ahmed Abu Muslim will take charge on an interim basis for Thursday's fixture against Talae El-Geish while they search for a new foreign head coach.
Dumas, 57, leaves after a disappointing tenure in which his only win came against Zamalek, thanks to a goal from Joseph Jonathan.
Modern Sport will hire a new manager soon to improve their situation and escape the relegation zone.

Zamalek sign Moroccan U-20 winger Abdelhamid Maali on five-year deal - Egyptian Football

Zamalek have completed the signing of Morocco U-20 winger Abdelhamid Maali from Ittihad Tanger on a five-year contract; the Cairo giants announced on Monday. The 19-year-old is considered one of the top emerging talents in the Moroccan league and has featured regularly for Morocco's youth national teams. He was promoted to Ittihad Tanger's senior squad in the 2022–23 season and made 44 appearances for the first team. Maali will be registered with Zamalek's youth team and will not count toward the six-foreign-player quota permitted by the Egyptian Football Association. League regulations allow clubs to register six foreign players, with a maximum of five allowed on the pitch at any one time. The Moroccan winger becomes Zamalek's sixth new signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Swedish-Palestinian winger Adam Kaied, goalkeeper El-Mahdi Soliman, Angolan winger Chico Banza, and Pharco FC duo Amr Nasser and Ahmed Sherif. Meanwhile, Egyptian Premier League side ZED FC confirmed on Monday that defender Mohamed Ismael has joined Zamalek, although the latter have yet to officially announce the deal. 'Thank you, Mohamed Ismael. Wish you the best in your next journey at Zamalek,' ZED FC wrote in a post on their official Facebook page. Zamalek are rebuilding after a disappointing campaign last season, in which they finished third in the Egyptian Premier League and exited the CAF Confederation Cup at the quarter-final stage. They begin the new season with a challenging opener against Ceramica Cleopatra on 9 August at Suez Stadium. Pyramids FC sign Brazilian winger Ewerton on four-year deal - Egyptian Football

Egyptian side Pyramids FC have signed Brazilian winger Ewerton Paixão da Silva from Czech club Baník Ostrava on a four-year contract; the club announced on Monday. The 28-year-old becomes the club's first signing of the summer as the African champions prepare for the new season, which kicks off on 9 August against newly promoted side Wadi Degla. Known simply as Ewerton, the winger is expected to fill the void left by Ibrahim Adel, who joined UAE side Al-Jazira earlier this month. Ewerton was previously linked with a move to Egyptian giants Ahly, who showed interest in January, but the deal fell through amid reports that Ostrava had set a $2.5 million price tag for the player. He scored 16 goals and provided seven assists in 34 appearances in all fronts last season. Pyramids FC are coming off a historic campaign in which they won their first CAF Champions League title and finished runners-up in both the Egyptian Premier League and Egypt Cup. The club face a packed schedule this season, including domestic and continental competitions, as well as representing Africa at the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. They are set to face New Zealand's Auckland City on 14 December at Air Defense Stadium. Swimming: 'Fragile' Walsh defies illness to win butterfly world gold - Omni sports

A "fragile" Gretchen Walsh shook off a stomach bug to power to a dominant victory in the 100m butterfly final at the world championships in Singapore on Monday. World record holder Walsh took gold in 54.73sec -- the second-fastest time in history -- ahead of Belgium's Roos Vanotterdijk (55.84) and Alexandria Perkins of Australia (56.33). The United States team has been hit with a bout of acute gastroenteritis and Walsh said she had been laid low heading into the race. "The last couple of days my body has been fragile," said the 22-year-old. "I've needed to give myself grace and luckily I had the morning to recover and rest and I used that. "That helped me enormously going into tonight." Walsh set the world record of 54.60sec in May. She said she had to "reevaluate my expectations" for the world championships after her battle with illness but surprised herself with her performance. "I'm over the moon," she said. "I'm really happy that when it mattered, I was able to do that and get my hands on the wall." This is Walsh's first long course individual world title and the Olympic silver medallist was clear favourite. She won two relay golds at the Paris Olympics but was pipped to gold in the 100m butterfly final by team-mate Torri Huske in an upset. Huske decided against racing in the 100m butterfly in Singapore due to the gastroenteritis outbreak.
