Aamir Khan Once Dubbed ‘Flop Actor', Today He's Worth $770 Million: ‘Don't Take Him'
Today, Aamir Khan is not only a Bollywood icon but a global star. His net worth is estimated to be around $770 million, placing him among the richest actors in the world. Aamir Khan is one of Bollywood's most successful stars today, but his journey to the top wasn't smooth. In fact, following his breakout debut in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), Aamir delivered seven back-to-back flops, earning him the dreaded label of a 'flop actor" before his major turnaround with the 1990 romantic drama Dil. Interestingly, Dil also starred Madhuri Dixit, who was undergoing a similar rough patch. Despite delivering a hit like Tezaab, Madhuri was also being written off due to several of her films either failing or being shelved midway. Actor Adi Irani, who featured alongside them in Dil, recently reflected on this forgotten phase during a podcast with Filmymantra Media. 'Six-seven films of his flopped in a row after Aamir Khan's first film. He was considered a flop hero… That was the case for Madhuri Dixit as well," he shared. Adi revealed that Dil only happened because director Indra Kumar couldn't get frequent collaborator Anil Kapoor's dates. Indra, who had earlier produced Mohabbat and Kasam with Anil, wanted him for his directorial debut Beta. But due to scheduling issues, Anil advised Indra to take on a smaller project in the meantime and that's how Dil came into being, with Aamir and Madhuri headlining it. 'Anil Kapoor told Indra Kumar, 'Make a small-budget film in the meantime. You'll also get experience being a director too,'" Adi recalled. Aamir Khan himself has often spoken about this phase. At a recent PVR event celebrating his films, he said, 'Back then, actors worked on 30 to 50 films simultaneously… I ended up signing 9-10 films at once. I was not happy. I would go home and cry." He added, 'The media dubbed me a 'one-film wonder.' Rightly so… I could see my career going down the drain. I was stuck in a swamp, unable to get out." But the massive success of Dil resurrected both his and Madhuri's careers. What followed was an era of dominance for Aamir, marked by critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as Raja Hindustani, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots, PK and Dangal. Today, Aamir Khan is not only a Bollywood icon but a global star. His net worth is estimated to be around $770 million (over Rs 6,000 crore), placing him among the richest actors in the world. From being considered a 'flop hero" to earning that title, Aamir's journey is nothing short of inspiring. First Published: May 30, 2025, 22:05 IST

The Bhootnii box office collection day 4: Sunjay Dutt and Mouni Roy's horror comedy earns over Rs. 3 crore by the end of its first weekend
Horror comedy is one of the most popular and loved genres of cinema. Coming from the same genre is Sanjay Dutt and Mouni Roy's latest release, 'The Bhootnii.' Released on May 1, the film has completed a four day run at the theatres and after its first weekend, it's box office collection is over Rs. 3 crores. 'The Bhootnii' box office update: Directed by Sidhaant Sachdev, 'The Bhootnii' also features Sunny Singh and Palak Tiwari. Clashing with 'Raid 2,' 'The Bhootnii' opened at Rs 65 lakh net business on Thursday, according to the Sacnilk report. On the second day, i.e., Friday, the horror comedy made Rs. 62 lakhs. On Saturday, the movie saw a rise of 38.71 percent and collected Rs. 86 lakh. The earlier estimates suggest that on Sunday, the movie witnessed a further increase in footfall and was able to mint Rs. 1.06 crore. With this, 'The Bhootnii' made a business of Rs 3.19 crore after its opening weekend. 'The Bhootni' vs 'Raid 2' 'The Bhootnii' and 'Raid 2' locked horns at the box office, and the latter has crossed the half-century mark over the opening weekend. The Ajay Devgn starrer is a sequel to 'Raid', the crime thriller which garnered both love and commercial success. At the same time, it is running parallel to 'Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh,' which is yet another tough competition to beat. 'The Bhootnii' movie review With a rating of 2 out of 5 stars, ETimes' review of 'The Bhootni' reads - 'Sachdev and Vankush Arora's story doesn't tread new ground, though Santhosh Thundiyil's cinematography occasionally lends it an atmospheric touch. The narrative, however, is riddled with inconsistencies—when Mohabbat takes human form to lure Shantanu, she's constantly by his side. But once her identity as the ghost is revealed, she inexplicably starts vanishing for hours, conveniently giving Baba the time to do his work. While some sequences are intriguing, the gimmicky VFX and Mohabbat's sub-par make-up effects dilute the impact.'

The Bhootnii X Reviews: Mouni Roy floats while the script sinks; ‘I wasn't scared just spiritually exhausted'
Bollywood's obsession with horror-comedies continues, and The Bhootnii starring Sanjay Dutt, Mouni Roy, Palak Tiwari, Sunny Singh, and Beyounick, is the latest film to attempt the spooky-funny formula that has taken audiences by storm. Directed by Sidhaant Sachdev, the film dives into the bizarre story of a haunted college tree that awakens a ghost every Valentine's Day. This year, she's called Mohabbat, and she's not just haunting the halls — she's falling in love. While there was no specific direction that netizens seemed to lean towards, the internet was united in praising Mouni Roy's performance. One fan admitted, 'Honestly, didn't expect to enjoy it this much. Mouni Roy was surprisingly good in it.' Another pointed out that she spent '45 days in a harness' for the role, calling her commitment 'visible in every frame.' Someone else summed up the general online sentiment: 'Still reeling from the horror-comedy rollercoaster. Mouni Roy's Mohabbat was mesmerising — a must-watch for fans of the genre!' While The Bhootnii may not win awards, it's certainly sparked debate. Whether it's a supernatural success or a ghostly goof-up depends entirely on how much cringe you're willing to endure for a few laughs — and a floating Mouni Roy.
