KUALA LUMPUR: A 37-year-old administrative assistant at a government department pleaded not guilty in court today to insulting the modesty of a 23-year-old female intern. The alleged incident occurred on April 4 at a government office. Mohamad Aznee Osman was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail, a fine, or both. Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan granted him bail at RM2,500 with one surety and ordered him not to harass the victim. The accused, who appeared without legal representation, requested a lower bail amount, citing financial difficulties. 'I earn RM2,000 monthly and support three children, including one with disabilities. My wife is unemployed,' he said. The case has been scheduled for mention on Sept 3. Prosecuting officer Insp M. The charge was framed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of five years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction. Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan allowed Mohamad Aznee bail of RM2,500 in one surety and required him to avoid harassing the victim. She set Sept 3 for mention of the case. Mohamad Aznee, who was not represented by counsel, pleaded for a small bail sum. "I am a civil servant earning RM2,000 a month. I have three school-going children and one of them is a person with disabilities, while my wife is unemployed," he said. The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer Insp Nangai. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: A civil servant pleaded not guilty at the magistrates' court today to a charge of outraging the modesty of a woman by asking her to shave his pubic hair in April. Mohamad Aznee Osman, 37, was accused of committing the act on a 23-year-old intern at 1.58pm at a government office here on April 4. The administrative assistant entered his plea after the charge was read out to him before magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan. He faces up to five years' jail, a fine, or both upon conviction under Section 509 of the Penal Code. Clad in a black jacket and grey trousers, the father of three who was unrepresented, appeared calm as he stood near the dock during proceedings. Prosecuting officer Inspector M. Alli Nangai offered bail at RM5,000 with one surety. She also requested the court to fix a date for document submission and the appointment of counsel. However, a National Legal Aid Foundation representative appealed for a lower bail amount. "The accused earns RM2,000 a month and is the sole breadwinner of his family. "His wife is unemployed, and they have three children, one of whom is disabled. "The bail should be reasonable and not punitive." Farah Nabihah set bail at RM2,500 with one surety. "I want to remind the accused not to harass any witnesses in this case, especially the victim. "If there are complaints, bail will be revoked," she said.
