DALAT (May 7): Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG), a subsidiary of Petronas, continues to play a major role in empowering rural education through its 'Bestari Outreach Programme'. Carried out at SK Sungai Kut Tengah here yesterday, the initiative also signified the company's high commitment not only to the development of education, but also the well-being of communities in the rural areas. 'Programmes like this not only reflect genuine corporate concern, but they also open up opportunities for the children in the rural areas to gain access to quality education without feeling marginalised,' said Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing Sarawak Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah in her opening speech for the programme. The Dalat assemblywoman also said that SK Sungai Kut Tengah and SJKC Poi Yuk were among the schools identified as beneficiaries of the programme last year. Among the contributions channelled included renovation works on and the provision of learning facilities such as smart televisions, tables and chairs, audio-video system, solar lights and various other educational equipment and devices. 'This effort is meant to ease the burden off the schools, while also improving the quality of daily learning,' said Fatimah. According to her, MLNG had previously implemented similar programmes in Roban, Betong, Sebuyau, Sibu and Tatau, including SK Nanga Tau on April 23. Adding on, Fatimah also expressed her appreciation to the educators for their commitment and dedication in guiding the younger generation. 'I hope that programmes like this could be continued and expanded to more areas to ensure that a balance of education between urban and rural areas could be achieved,' she said. Among those present were Dalat District Education officer Magdaline Jon, SK Sungai Kut Tengah headmaster Muhammad Nur Salhan Salam, SJKC Poi Yuk headmaster Ngieng Seng Hung, and MLNG chief executive officer Mohamed Syazwan Abdullah @ Laga Jenggi.
