Skyscape Beckons Eagerly Awaited Monsoon
1 2 Lucknow: Several parts of the state, including Lucknow, are likely to be lashed by rain and thunderstorms for the next two days. According to the weatherman, a fresh western disturbance over Afghanistan, a cyclonic circulation over central UP, and a depression on the coastal part of West Bengal and Bangladesh will bring a sudden change in the weather conditions. "Due to cyclonic circulation in central UP and a fresh western disturbance, widespread thundershowers and drizzle are expected across the state with strong surface winds of 40-50 kmph sweeping several districts," said senior scientist Mohammad Danish of the state Met department. He said light to moderate rain may bring some respite from the present hot weather conditions as the day temperatures are expected to witness a fall by a degree or so. Parts of Lucknow and adjoining districts experienced light rain during the early hours on Thursday. The maximum and minimum temperatures were 38.9 and 25.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. On Friday in Lucknow, it will be a partly cloudy sky becoming generally cloudy with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 39 and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively. Meanwhile, in the state, rain or thundershowers are very likely at a few places. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (speed 40-50, gusting to 60 kmph) are very likely at isolated places over the state. A hailstorm is likely at isolated places over the state.

Thunderstorm, rain bring relief to UP districts; similar alert for next 5 days
1 2 Lucknow: Over a dozen districts in the central and Terai region of Uttar Pradesh were swept by a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rain, and strong winds, uprooting trees in the early hours of Thursday morning. According to the weatherman, more rounds of thunderstorms and light to moderate rain are predicted until Monday due to a strong cyclonic circulation over Punjab. The state capital, Jhansi, Hardoi, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Shravasti, Kushinagar, Bahraich, Varanasi, and several others were lashed by gusty winds and rains. The highest rainfall of 73.7 mm was recorded in Gorakhpur, followed by Ayodhya (57.2 mm), Fursatganj in Amethi (56.6 mm), Haraiya in Basti (54.2 mm), and others. Barabanki was the coolest during the daytime, recording 31.6 degrees Celsius, while Lucknow recorded its lowest maximum temperature during the day in May, with mercury dropping to 33.9 degrees Celsius. "A strong cyclonic circulation over Punjab and interaction of easterlies and westerlies from Punjab to the Bay of Bengal formed a trough line that led to thunderstorms and rain in the central part and the Terai belt of Uttar Pradesh," said senior scientist Mohammad Danish of the state meteorological department. He said more rounds of thunderstorms are expected for the next five days, causing light to moderate rain and gusty winds sweeping the state. Rain/thundershower is very likely at isolated places over the state. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/gusty winds (speed 40-50 km/h) are very likely at isolated places over the state. At 33.9 degree Celsius, Lucknow experiences coolest day of May Lucknow was lashed with thunderstorms and rain on Thursday, leading to a drop in both day and night temperatures. Banda remains hottest; city temp at 39C
Lucknow: Banda remained the scorching hot spot in the country for the second consecutive day, recording a blistering temperature of 46.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, marking the third time in four days it topped the list of hottest places in India. Heatwave conditions were reported from other parts of the state as well. However, some relief is expected, with the state met department forecasting thunderstorms at isolated places in UP and partly cloudy sky with strong winds at several places from Wednesday to Saturday. Ganganagar (Rajasthan) with 46.3 degrees Celsius was the second hottest place, followed by Barmer (Rajasthan) 45.7 degrees C, Churu (Rajasthan) 45.6 degrees C, Jhansi and Khajuraho (MP) 45.4 degrees C each, Rohtak (Haryana) 45.3 degrees C, Nowgong (MP) 45 degrees C, Orai 44.2 degrees C, Hamirpur 43.2 degrees C, Agra 42.9 degrees C, Prayagraj 42.2 degrees C and Aligarh 41.2 degrees C in UP. "Hot and dry westerly winds coming from Rajasthan and clear sky are responsible for the intense heat being witnessed in most parts of the state," said senior scientist at the state met department, Mohammad Danish. However, thunderstorms were reported from some parts of Terai bordering Nepal, he added. He predicted that weather conditions are expected to change a bit in the coming days. A western disturbance in the form of cyclonic circulation is hovering over Pakistan. And, he said, a trough line (a stream of small cyclonic circulations) is passing through central India. This will result in interaction of hot westerly winds and humid easterlies leading to thundery development with lightning and gusty winds (speed 40-50 km per hour) in some parts of the state, particularly east UP, including Lucknow, between Wednesday and Saturday, he added. On Tuesday, the situation was better in Lucknow as compared to other parts of the state, with the maximum temperature 39.1 degrees Celsius, 1.1 units below normal, and minimum temperature 25.6 degrees Celsius, 0.3 notch above normal. Relative humidity was high, oscillating between 46-80% On Wednesday, sky will be mainly clear in the city, with the possibility of thundery development and feeble drizzle towards the evening.

UP's Banda records hottest temperature in country at 46.2 degrees Celsius
LUCKNOW: As many as five cities in Uttar Pradesh recorded the maximum temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius or above since Friday. Banda in the Bundelkhand region remained on top in the list of hottest places in the country, with the maximum temperatures soaring to as high as 46.2 degrees Celsius. After Banda, Ganganagar in Rajasthan was the second hottest at 45.9 degrees Celsius. Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh was a close third at 45.8 degrees Celsius. In UP, after Banda, Prayagraj (45.4), Kanpur (45.2), Jhansi (45.1) and Varanasi (45) kept the residents struggling with the sweeping heat wave. However, a dip in the day temperatures was recorded in the state following sporadic showers and thunderstorms on Saturday. Meanwhile, amid intense heatwave conditions prevailing in the state, UP CM Yogi Adityanath issued directives to the Relief and Health Departments to issue alerts and ensure public safety. According to senior scientist Mohammad Danish at the state met centre, the main reason behind this heatwave is the strong westerly winds coming from the desert region of Rajasthan. The weather conditions are likely to remain the same till Sunday. Thereafter, an easterly and westerly trough is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms, providing some relief from the scorching heat in the state. In line with the CM's instructions, the state Health Department released official guidelines on Saturday to make the public aware of the measures to be taken to prevent heatstroke. The guidelines included suggestions for avoiding exposure to extreme heat, staying hydrated, and recognising early symptoms of heat-related illnesses. Additionally, posters and pamphlets are being circulated across the state to educate people on safety precautions. Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma, Principal Secretary of the Department of Medical, Health, and Family Welfare, said that the officials were instructed to issue necessary guidelines to protect people from the extreme conditions. The guidelines talk about covering the body properly and opting for light-coloured, breathable clothing while stepping out of the house. Everyone is advised to carry an umbrella or wear sunglasses as protection against the blazing sun. "Keep oneself hydrated with plenty of fluids like lemon water, shikanji, or coconut water throughout the day." Moreover, the guidelines also talk about the use of curtains or shades to block direct sunlight while being indoors.
