He selected the playing XI and also a 15-member squad, consisting of four back up players. 'If we talk about the playing XI, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson will open. Tilak Verma will be No.3, followed by Suryakumar Yadav at No. 4 who will be the captain. Axar Patel will come in at No.5 and will also be the vice captain and he will be followed by Hardik Pandya at No.6. Shivam Dube will be at No.7, Washington Sundar will be at No.8. Kuldeep Yadav will be No.9, Arshdeep Singh will be no.10 and Jasprit Bumrah will be at No.11,' Kaif said on X. Low-cost tech to restore skull shape after surgery

Lucknow: Neurosurgeons at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences have developed a low-cost technique for reconstructing skull defects following brain surgery. The technique uses polymethylmethacrylate, which is shaped on a single, standard skull model to make implants for patients. It is safe, effective and affordable alternative to expensive custom-made implants, biggest advantage being its extremely low cost, about Rs 170, compared to custom 3D-printed PMMA implants that cost Rs 29,000 and titanium implants costing more than Rs 41,500. The study, published in Asian Journal of Neurosurgery, focuses on problems after Retrosigmoid Suboccipital (RMSO) craniotomy—a surgery done to remove tumours from cerebellopontine angle of the brain. The research team, led by Prof D K Singh and Prof Mohammad Kaif, tested their method on 25 patients over one year. In this technique, PMMA implant is shaped on a regular PVC skull model, sterilised and then fitted into the patient's skull through surgery. Kaif advises India against making 'panic' changes in Manchester, lends support to Nair: ‘Should back same team'

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif feels under-fire batter Karun Nair deserves another chance in the ongoing series despite his inability to convert starts so far in the ongoing series. read more Mohammad Kaif has thrown his weight behind under-fire batter Karun Nair, urging captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir to continue backing him in the ongoing series. Reuters/PTI Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has urged current Test captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir to not make mass changes to their team combination after the 22-run defeat at Lord's, which has left them trailing England 1-2 in the ongoing five-Test series. Kaif's comment was particularly directed at Karun Nair, who has made his return to the Indian team after eight years in the ongoing series but faces the prospect of getting benched in the fourth Test in Manchester for his failure to collect a big score after a series of starts. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'One thing I've noticed - when India lose, they panic. When they win, they stick with the same XI. After losing the first Test, they made two-three changes. But after winning in Birmingham, only (Jasprit) Bumrah came in – no other changes. That's been the pattern,' Kaif, who represented India in 13 Tests and 125 ODIs, told IANS. 'Even after losing the third Test, I believe they should back the same team going into Manchester. Karun Nair has been getting starts - 30s and 40s - but not converting. Still, he deserves another opportunity. This is a test for both Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir. After a close loss, will they panic and make changes? Or will they trust the players?' he added. India had drafted the trio of Akash Deep, Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy into the playing XI after losing the series opener at Headingley by five wickets. Only one of those three changes was forced, with Akash replacing Jasprit Bumrah after the latter was rested for the second Test as part of his workload management. Bumrah would later return to the XI at Lord's, replacing Prasidh Krishna with Akash retaining his place after a match-winning 10-wicket haul across both innings at Edgbaston. Nair, meanwhile, has scored 131 runs in six outings at an average slightly above 20, having gone past 30 just twice in the ongoing series. The team management had opted to bench top-order batter B Sai Sudharsan after handing him his Test debut at Headingley, with Gill and Gambhir opting to move Nair to No 3 from No 6 for the next two Tests. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The Vidarbha batter, however, faces immense pressure to retain his place in the Test team; he might get another shot at Old Trafford, or even in the final Test at The Oval, but the doors will be firmly shut on him beyond this series if he fails to notch up a single big score. 'They've surprised everyone' Kaif also lauded the current team for standing up and delivering in the ongoing Test series in the absence of stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin. While Ashwin had announced his international retirement midway during the tour of Australia in December, Rohit and Kohli had brought the curtains down on their Test careers in May. 'India dominated for 12-13 out of the last 15 days. They played solid cricket - both with the bat and the ball. When this team landed in England, most people predicted a 0-4 or 1-4 defeat, but they've surprised everyone. 'Without Kohli, Rohit, Shami, and Ashwin, this young team stood up and delivered. They lost two close matches - Headingley was in India's grasp, and so was the final Test while chasing 193. Shubman Gill has led from the front - as captain and as a batsman. There were doubts about his ability to perform in English conditions, but he answered with the bat. With a bit of luck, India could've won all three Tests,' Kaif added. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The fourth Test between India and England gets underway at Old Trafford on Wednesday, with Gill and Co needing a victory to keep their hopes of a series win alive.

Shubman Gill Told To 'Stick To His Attitude' Or 'Learn The Hard Way' After Lord's

Former India batter Mohammad Kaif has asked Shubman Gill to 'stick to the attitude' that 'works' for him, instead of 'fighting' players from England during the remainder of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Kaif believes the Indian captain's altercation with Zak Crawley altered the recent Lord's Test by firing up his opposite number, Ben Stokes, and ended in a 22-run defeat for the visitors. Just before Stumps on Day 3 of the Test, Gill was unhappy with what he felt was time wasting by Crawley. With minutes to go for the end of play, the English opener kept pulling out of his batting stance against Jasprit Bumrah while also asking to stop batting entirely and asking for the physio after getting hit by a delivery. Gill engaged in finger-pointing and sarcastic applause for him, while also gesturing to call for an 'Impact Player'.

Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The incident occurred when the procession was returning from the graveyard. Providing details of the incident, Jaunpur Circle Officer Shahganj Ajit Singh Chauhan said on Monday that a Tazia made of aluminium was being taken back to Sagunpur under Khutahan police station on a tractor trolley on Sunday night after performing the ritual of burying at Karbala (graveyard) in Patela village. While passing through Sadhanganj, the Tazia came in contact with a live high-tension wire, following which three people—Altmas, Mohammad Kaif, and Mohammad Mobeen— suffered burn injuries. They were immediately rushed to a local hospital, where doctors referred critically-burnt Altmas and Mohammad Kaif to the district hospital. At the hospital, they were declared dead while Kaif was released after receiving first aid. He added that the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. Upset over the incident, the villagers alleged that they had given a written complaint to the SDM Shahganj about the low-hanging wires of the HT line. Also, the electricity department was informed about the same over the phone, but no action was taken in this regard.
