MoECC conducts 10 inspection flights with autogyro aircraft, detects 41 environmental violations in 2025 Q2

Tribune News Network Doha The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) conducted 10 inspection flights using an autogyro aircraft, covering the northern regions of the country In the second quarter of this year. The total flight time reached 12.60 hours. This is part of the ministry's efforts to promote the use of modern technologies in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. Mohammed Nahar Al Nuaimi, director of the State's External Reserves Office at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, explained that the drone provided its services to the Departments of Wildlife Protection and Wildlife Development, contributing to the monitoring of 41 environmental violations, including 33 violations monitored by the Department of Wildlife Protection and eight violations monitored by the Department of Wildlife Development. He noted that the violations included encroachment on soil and vegetation, misuse of land, random waste disposal, encroachment on meadows, and the establishment of unlicensed facilities, in addition to other illegal environmental practices. Al Nuaimi added that the drone's operation is part of supporting environmental monitoring efforts through the use of modern and advanced technologies, stressing that these technologies contribute to environmental exploration and wildlife development, providing accurate information about the terrestrial and marine environment, as well as coastal monitoring, supporting scientific research, and monitoring plant and animal species. He explained that the aircraft features advanced technology that enables immediate communication between the pilot, environmental inspectors, the Environmental Operations Department, and patrol teams. He said the aircraft is also equipped with high-resolution cameras to document wildlife and marine life, which contributes to monitoring quarry activity, studying vegetation cover, and protecting biodiversity. He pointed out that the aircraft has proven its efficiency in conducting safe flights without difficulties during takeoff or landing. The ministry launched the environmental meteorological monitoring system using an autogyro helicopter in May of last year. The first flight took off from Umm Shakhut Airport in the presence of Minister of Environment and Climate Change His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie. The tour included monitoring several wild areas and beaches. The aircraft is one of the modern technologies the ministry relies on to monitor marine coasts, provide accurate environmental data, support scientific research, monitor biodiversity, identify environmental changes in land areas, and detect violations and quickly address them. This contributes to enhancing environmental sustainability within the framework of the fourth pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030.
