Four suspects remanded over cop's death
ALOR SETAR: Four fleeing burglary suspects, who rammed their car into a policeman and killed him on the spot, have been remanded for seven days. Magistrate Siti Nor Hasliza Md Ali granted the remand order from yesterday until Aug 14 to facilitate the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Clad in orange lockup attire, the suspects, aged between 24 and 26, were brought to the Alor Setar Court Complex in a van at about 8.45am under heavy police escort. In the 3.30pm incident on Thursday, Kpl Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan, 35, was run over by a vehicle with several fleeing suspects on board. It is believed that the suspects were trying to steal a metal safe from a house in Taman Golf. Kedah police chief Comm Adzli Abu Shah had said that Mohd Hafizul Izham died on the spot after he was struck by a sports utility vehicle. Heavy escort: The four suspects being taken to court. 'The victim had just stepped out of his car when he was rammed by the suspect's vehicle,' he said during a press conference. Meanwhile, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail described the passing of Mohd Hafizul Izham as a great loss to the police and nation. 'I am deeply saddened to receive the news of his passing. He was killed in the line of duty while attempting to apprehend a suspect in a criminal incident.' Saifuddin added that Mohd Hafizul Izham had shown courage and the indomitable spirit of frontliners safeguarding the nation's security, and his fearless action in facing danger to ensure public safety is deeply appreciated and honoured. He assured that the welfare of the late policeman's family would be given full attention, and the ministry will ensure all matters, including payments and benefits ,are channelled without delay.

Corporal Mohd Hafizul Izham Buried In Bandar Permaisuri
GENERAL BANDAR PERMAISURI, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The remains of Corporal Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan, who died when hit by a vehicle driven by a criminal during a housebreaking incident at Golf Park in Alor Setar, Kedah, yesterday evening, were laid to rest this morning with full police honours. Earlier, the remains of the 35-year-old policeman were brought to his parents' home in Kampung Pak Kancil at then taken to the Petra Jaya Mosque at 9.15 am for funeral prayers before the burial at the mosque's cemetery at 10.30 am. Present at the burial ground were Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin and more than 300 family members and friends. The burial was conducted with full Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) honours, including the ceremonial handing over of the Sang Saka Biru flag by Mohd Khairi to the deceased's father, Mazlan Umar, 64, a retired police officer. The tragic incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. yesterday when police received a tip-off about suspicious activity at Golf Park. A team of five officers and personnel from the Kedah Criminal Investigation Department (CID), including Mohd Hafizul, responded to the scene in two vehicles. It was during this operation that the officer was fatally struck by a suspect's vehicle. Mohd Hafizul Izham sustained serious head and body injuries and died at the scene. One suspect was arrested at the scene, while the remaining three fled but were later apprehended in Kepala Batas, Alor Setar. Mohd Hafizul Izham leaves behind a wife, Nur Azhanis Mohd Yusoff, 36, and three sons, Muhammad Akif Naufal, 11; Muhammad Ammar Nazran, 9; and Muhammad Afiq Nazim, 4. Speaking to reporters, Muhammad Akif Naufal recounted the last moments he shared with his father were when he picked him up from school at 1.15 pm yesterday.
