Two more major champions added to Amgen Irish Open field at The K Club
Francesco Molinari and Danny Willett will compete in the Amgen Irish Open at The K Club next month. Molinari, who won The Open in 2018, and 2016 Masters victor Willett, will be joined by PGA Tour stars Jhonattan Vegas and Ryan Gerard in the field for the event that takes place between September 4-7. The news follows confirmation that LIV trio Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia and Tyrrell Hatton will tee it up at the prestigious Straffan venue, along with Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Padraig Harrington and Seamus Power. 'I am very excited to play in the Amgen Irish Open at The K Club this year,' said Molinari. 'I have not played in the event for 10 years but it is a huge tournament and one that everybody always enjoys. 'The K Club is a great venue with so much history behind it, including the Ryder Cup, so it should be a great week. The Irish fans are so passionate and it gives us a boost inside the ropes when you hear the atmosphere.' Willett, who has four top 10s in the Irish Open, said: 'The big events just keep coming at this time of the year and they don't get much bigger than the Amgen Irish Open. 'The turnout from the Irish fans is always incredible and I know this year will be no different. The field is shaping up to be really strong so I'm looking forward to a good test from the Palmer North Course, which is always a joy to play.' Jhonattan Vegas during the first round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship 2025 last week (Image:) Four-time PGA Tour winner Vegas, who competed at The Open in Portrush last month, makes his Irish Open debut. 'Having the opportunity to travel to Ireland and play in the Amgen Irish Open is really exciting and I'm so grateful to both Amgen and the DP World Tour for the opportunity,' said the two-time Olympian from Venezuela. 'I've heard great things about the event and have witnessed how passionate Irish fans are when I've played in the Open Championship in the past, so to have the chance to tee it up in front of them again is really cool.' Gerard, meanwhile, claimed his first DP World Tour and PGA TOUR victory at the Barracuda Championship earlier this year, and is looking forward to his first trip to these shores. 'Having the opportunity to play all over the world is amazing so I'm delighted to be able to head over and play the Amgen Irish Open,' he said. 'Winning my first event earlier this year has opened so many doors and I'm keen to play in different events and take in new experiences.'

Residents in ‘most policed area of Perth' enraged by minister's response
Enraged Inglewood residents near a trouble-plagued public housing complex have warned anti-social behaviour could escalate unless the West Australian government steps up efforts to clamp down on the issue. Housing Minister John Carey was grilled about the Ninth Avenue complex during question time in parliament on Wednesday as residents watched on and at times heckled from the public gallery. The 24-unit complex was bought by the WA government last year for public housing, but anti-social behaviour has become so bad that Police Minister Reece Whitby said it was now one of the most policed areas of Perth. Speaking outside parliament after question time, Inglewood resident Melissa Molinari detailed some of the behaviour allegedly witnessed over the past five months, which included a jogger being chased with a butcher's knife; children being abused by tenants; bottles thrown at passers-by; and an Uber driver being bashed and having his car stolen. Molinari said the government's response to date was not good enough, and the issues were escalating. 'It is distressing to see families and parents of families here right now whose children have been attacked on our streets, and [the minister] stands there and does nothing. It's disgusting,' she said. 'How many more people need to be attacked on the streets of Inglewood? How many more people have bottles thrown at them, chased with knives, before this government and this minister actually does something about it and hears our voices? 'What's going to happen when someone is killed on the streets of Inglewood? What then?' Molinari said the Inglewood community was not against social housing, and many tenants in the complex were doing the right thing and were also victims of the small number of bad eggs.

2025 Soudal Open key headlines as Francesco Molinari excited by cool Euro Swing
The 2018 Open champion is back on European soil after a sojourn in the States and hopes it will help his form improve The Italian star has returned to his continent to make a debut appearance at this week's Soudal Open. Molinari, the 2018 Open champion and Ryder Cup hero, has been mainly based in the United States on the PGA Tour so far this term, but is now in Belgium to join the DP World Tour's European Swing having also been a playing captain at the Team Cup in Abu Dhabi in January. Big golf events such as the upcoming KLM Open and Italian Open also help make up the European Swing which runs through to the BMW International Open in July. Belgium starts on Thursday and Molinari said: 'I'm really looking forward to it. It's an event that I've been watching on TV, growing the last few years. It's always nice to play national events, national opens. I'm sure that the crowds will be great. 'I think they're the core of the DP World Tour. For guys like me, like Nicolas Colsaerts, coming from smaller golfing nations, our national opens are the fifth Major growing up for sure. So I know how much Belgians care about this week. I think it's one of the things that makes this tour special and starting now, especially in the summer. There's going to be a lot of very cool European events. Hopefully I can be part of a few of them at least.' Brother Edoardo qualified for next month US Open having come through Monday's qualifiers and, although Francesco missed out on Oakmont by failing to get through, the 42-year-old is hopeful hard work on his game pay off having seen encouraging signs at Walton Heath. He said: 'I didn't have a good day on the greens, but I saw some pretty good stuff. I'm sort of happy where it is at the minute. Obviously, you'd like to see some results to get some confidence. 'But I can't complain really where it is. I think it's just a matter of keeping at it. I've had some good rounds this year. I've been struggling a bit to get four good rounds together, so hopefully that will happen this week.' Molinari will play alongside recent first-time DP World Tour winners Martin Couvra and Eugenio Chacarra on the opening two days of the Soudal, where home favourite Nicolas Colsaerts will also star. The three-time DP World Tour winner, a member of the European team that produced the Miracle at Medinah, is proud to once again be playing under the Belgian flag in a home event. He said: 'This is where we all grew up. It has a special taste when you come and play a tournament back home, see faces that you sometimes have not seen for 10, 15, 20 years. I think the tournament organisers have been doing an incredible job since they took over the tournament and I've never really had the chance to shine in Belgium, so I'm extremely grateful to have the chance to walk the fairways in front of people that have been following my career for the last 25 years.' Colsaerts is now based in UAE, but added: 'I'm extremely grateful for that and living abroad, living in a different country, there's a lot of things that I miss about home. I'm really happy to be back. It's always a pleasure to come back and I'm extremely proud of where we've been able to put Belgium on the golfing map the last 25 years.'
