‘Curb disabled parking misuse at Vasco'
Vasco: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has requested the Vasco traffic cell to take action against the misuse of disabled parking spaces. 'MMC has made provision for disabled parking spaces, which will begin soon at four locations near the municipal building,' said MMC chairperson Girish Borkar. Borkar was commenting on a private vehicle illegally occupying a disabled parking spot near Vasco court. He said the south side of the municipal building has parking spaces for people with physical disabilities. 'Vasco traffic cell should take care of the parking spaces. Justice should be served to the Velsao resident frustrated by unauthorised parking in front of the Vasco court. Disabled persons have the right to a dedicated parking space and therefore the traffic cell should come out with a strategic plan for them,' said Borkar. Traders at Vasco's vegetable market told to clear dues
Vasco: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has told the shopkeepers operating at the old vegetable market to pay their dues before the Vasco saptah ends. The festival is scheduled from July 30 to Aug 5. The shopkeepers, some of whom have been operating at the market for seven decades, were called for a meeting to the council hall on Thursday morning by MMC chairperson Girish Borkar. Most of the shopkeepers have not paid their dues consisting of the interest generated by the principal amount on their sopos. They were told that clearing of dues was key to starting the construction work on the new vegetable market project, which would cost about Rs 1.8 crore. Meanwhile, the MMC has decided to disburse Rs 1.2 lakh to Shree Damodar Bhajani Saptah Committee to celebrate the 126th edition of the festival this year.

Mormugao civic body head faces heat over fish market plan
Vasco : Councillors grilled Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Girish Borkar and opposed his proposal to notify the new fish market project during a special meeting on Tuesday. Borkar deferred the notification of the fish market to the next meeting on Fredrick Henriques, Yatin Kamurlekar, and Deepak Naik highlighted issues with giving fish vendors a free hand and allocating them space in the new fish urged the chairperson to draft guidelines and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with vendors to help the council secure the legal rights over the fish also objected to the urgent repairs of staff quarters without preparing a technical report after the technical team's site inspection, citing safety council has resolved to take over the dilapidated Hindu crematorium at Khariwada, Vasco. A proposal to install an electric furnace was also resolved not to allow outsiders at the Bogda Hindu crematorium, alleging illegal activities and harming its council also decided to issue NOC for the redevelopment of the municipal market, modern market, and Sunday market as proposed by Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar.
