‘Curb disabled parking misuse at Vasco'
The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has requested the Vasco traffic cell to take action against the misuse of disabled parking spaces.
'MMC has made provision for disabled parking spaces, which will begin soon at four locations near the municipal building,' said MMC chairperson Girish Borkar.
Borkar was commenting on a private vehicle illegally occupying a disabled parking spot near Vasco court.
He said the south side of the municipal building has parking spaces for people with physical disabilities.
'Vasco traffic cell should take care of the parking spaces. Justice should be served to the Velsao resident frustrated by unauthorised parking in front of the Vasco court. Disabled persons have the right to a dedicated parking space and therefore the traffic cell should come out with a strategic plan for them,' said Borkar.
He said the traffic cell should strictly curb unauthorised parking to improve discipline among motorists.

On I-Day, around 1500 convicts granted special remission at Tihar Jail
On the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, special remission in a range of 15 to 25 days, was granted to 1497 convicts at the Tihar Jail. During the Independence Day celebration at Tihar prison, Director General (Prisons) Satish Golchha, said that a total of 1,497 inmates were eligible for special remission ranging from 15 to 25 days based on their conduct during their time in the prison. In an effort to tackle overcrowding in the Capital's prisons, DG Golchha announced that a new jail will be built in Narela with Rs 145.58 crore sanctioned by the Delhi government. Golchha said that around 600 inmates are being provided training in Unnati Cognitive Behavioural Programme of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) in collaboration with Osmania University, while several other organisations are contributing to vocational training across jails. DG Golchha further said that over 3,200 vacant posts in Tihar Jail have been filled after Jail Cadre staff were promoted. '1,697 warden and 93 assistant superintendent posts have been newly advertised to strengthen manpower,' the DG said. The DG also informed that the department had recently taken over the operation of the Lampur Detention Centre.

2 die as bikes collide, cops say one of them was making stunt reel
Ghaziabad: Two men died and another was injured after their motorcycles collided head-on on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway in Tronica City on Thursday night around 8pm. According to police, one rider was filming a stunt reel at the time of the accident. A 13-second crash video has also gone viral. The deceased were identified as Rohit Sharma (31) of Delhi and Subodh Kumar (42) of Baghpat; the injured is Sanjay Sharma (38) of Baghpat. A head-on collision between two motorcycles was captured in a 13-second video received by TOI from the police. The footage shows Rohit performing dangerous stunts on his Yamaha R1-5, standing on the bike while holding the handlebars as another person films him.
