JEE Advanced 2025: Record 9,404 female candidates qualify, marking highest since 2017
The JEE Advanced 2025 results show progress in the area of gender representation, with 9,404 female candidates qualifying, the greatest number since 2017. 'The growth from 7,137 female qualifiers in 2017 (~14.1%) to 9,404 female qualifiers in 2025 (~17.3%) demonstrates the success of continued programming promoting more girls to enter STEM', Nitin Vijay, Founder and CEO, Motion Education. Mr. Vijay pointed to a positive trend for girl candidates in the current academic year. He said, 'Increased opportunities are driven by the addition of 1,364 new seats and a 20% female supernumerary quota at all 23 IITs. It represents greater access for deserving female candidates to IIT admissions. With 50,455 total qualifiers in 2017 narrowing to 54,378 total qualifiers in 2025, and the percentage of women qualifiers consistently climbing, the future of gender diversity in India's premier technical institutions has never been so promising.' Approximately 1.90 lakh students appeared for JEE Advanced 2025, out of which around 43,000 were female candidates. The 20% female supernumerary quota will continue to be implemented across IITs. However, girls can secure admission under both the female-only pool and the gender-neutral pool. Those with higher ranks can even gain admission through the gender-neutral category. This system particularly benefits female candidates with relatively higher ranks. If girls make smart, strategic choices during JoSAA counselling, they stand a strong chance of getting into top IITs even with relatively higher All India Ranks. It is expected that this year, girls with an All India Rank of up to around 25,000 may have the opportunity to secure admission in IITs. Paper difficulty level Sharing his feedback on the paper, Mr. Vijay reported that JEE Advanced 2025 was of a moderate to difficult level of difficulty. Based on initial student feedback, Mathematics was found to be the most challenging section, with lengthy, difficult, and time-consuming questions requiring conceptual clarity and profound thinking. Physics was reported as moderate to challenging, with questions requiring understanding and accuracy, while Chemistry was comparatively easier in both sessions, allowing students to conserve time during the exam. Paper 2 proved to be tougher than Paper 1, particularly as eight number value-type questions were provided with no options. As compared to previous years, no paragraph-type questions were posed. Maths and Physics proved to be time-consuming and tough in Paper-2, whereas Chemistry proved to be a comparatively easier level of difficulty.

JEE Advanced Result 2025: What will be cut-off for JEE Advanced this year? Check previous year trends
JEE Advanced 2025: JEE Advanced 2025 result is likely to be declared on June 2. In addition to the result, the organising institute, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, will also release the JEE Advanced 2025 cut-off for admission to the IITs. In 2024, the JEE Advanced cut-off marks saw a significant increase across all categories compared to the previous year. For General and EWS candidates, the cut-off rose to 378 marks, up from 348 in 2023. Similarly, the cut-off for OBC-NCL candidates increased to 383 from 352, while for SC and ST categories, the cut-offs moved up to 364 and 366 respectively, from 331 and 323 in 2023. This upward trend reflects increasing competition and possibly a higher number of high-scoring candidates. This year, a total of 1,87,223 candidates, comprising 1,43,810 boys and 43,413 girls, appeared for JEE Advanced 2025. According to JEE Advanced analysis received from experts and candidates, mathematics was the most challenging this year, while chemistry and physics closely followed a similar pattern. The JEE Advanced cut-off marks last year under all the categories, except for the General-PWD category, had increased. Nitin Vijay, founder and CEO, Motion Education while speaking about JEE Advanced 2025 cut-off said: 'The expected cut-offs for JEE Advanced 2025 reveal a slightly going down curve across most categories when compared to the past year. Similar trends are visible in the EWS and OBC categories, with both expected cut-offs around 92–95, slightly less than 2024 levels. Notably, the SC and ST categories also show a steady but slightly declining figure with expected cut-offs being 49–52. This suggests a more competitive environment and potentially harder exam difficulty in 2025.' The JEE Advanced cut-offs depend on multiple factors. The number of total candidates appearing JEE Main exam, availability of seats at the participating institutions, previous year's trends and the difficulty level of the exam play an important role in deciding the cut-off. The academic desk at Vidyamandir Classes, however, has anticipated these cut-off marks: The copy of the candidate's JEE Advanced responses will be available on the website on May 22. The provisional answer key will be displayed on May 26. The feedback and comments on provisional answer keys will be recorded from May 26 to 27. As per IIT Kanpur's notification, online declaration of final answer key and results will be released on June 2.

India's premier engineering entrance test, JEE Advanced 2025 exam, organised by IIT-Kanpur, was held in two shifts at five centres in Kota. Also read: JEE Advanced 2025 analysis: Overall moderately difficult exam, Mathematics toughest, Chemistry easiest It was a record with more than 1.90 lakh students registering for the exam. In the first shift alone, 1,87,223 candidates appeared, comprising 1,43,810 boys and 43,413 girls, the experts in Kota claimed. Nitin Vijay, Founder and CEO of Motion Education, explained why girls' chances of making it to the final list were higher. "The chances for girls to get into IITs are significantly higher in 2025 due to the increase in seats and the 20 per cent female supernumerary quota. With 1,364 new BTech seats added this year, taking the total to over 18,500 across 23 IITs, the opportunity for deserving female aspirants is brighter than ever," he said. Female admissions in the JEE Advanced have averaged 22 per cent in the last three years, while male admissions have averaged around 78 per cent. The female supernumerary quota, in addition to the current female pool, continues to supplement their original chances. JEE Advanced 2025 Paper Analysis: Chemistry Easiest, Maths Most Challenging, Say Experts
Last Updated: JEE Advanced 2025 Question Paper Analysis: The exam was rated moderate to difficult, with Chemistry easiest and Mathematics the toughest, say experts. JEE Advanced 2025 Exam Analysis: The JEE Advanced 2025, conducted on May 18, was rated moderate to difficult by both students and academic experts. The exam, which is the gateway to admissions in India's prestigious IITs, was structured to test conceptual depth, time management, and analytical thinking across all three subjects — Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. According to Ajay Sharma, National Academic Director – Engineering, Aakash Educational Services Limited (AESL), the exam was well-balanced, with Chemistry emerging as the easiest, followed by Physics, while Mathematics proved to be the most challenging, especially due to its calculation-heavy and time-consuming nature. Nitin Vijay, Founder and CEO of Motion Education, termed the overall paper as 'moderate to difficult," reflecting the sentiment of many students post-exam. 'Mathematics was undoubtedly the toughest section," he said. 'It included lengthy, conceptual, and demanding questions that required deep understanding and precise thinking. Physics was of moderate to challenging difficulty, while Chemistry was relatively easier, allowing students to conserve time." 'Paper 2 was tougher than Paper 1, primarily due to eight numerical value-type questions without options and the absence of paragraph-type questions, which were a feature in previous years," he added. Mathematics Almost unanimously rated as the most difficult section, Mathematics featured lengthy and conceptually demanding questions, especially in Paper 2. The absence of options in numerical value-type questions further raised the bar. Time pressure was a significant factor, making the section not just challenging, but also stressful for many aspirants. Physics Physics was perceived as moderate to tough, depending on the paper. While Paper 1 included more manageable numerical and conceptual questions, Paper 2 had lengthier problems, demanding clarity of concepts and strong calculation skills. Chemistry As per both student responses and expert opinions, Chemistry was the most student-friendly section. Questions were mostly direct and conceptual, with a balanced distribution among Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry. This allowed students to attempt this section relatively quickly, buying them time for the more challenging ones. JEE Advanced 2025 Overall Difficulty Ranking Based on feedback from students and coaching experts, the subjects in JEE Advanced 2025 can be ranked in order of increasing difficulty as follows: Chemistry < Physics < Mathematics The exam tested not only the academic knowledge of aspirants but also their speed, accuracy, and presence of mind—particularly in Paper 2, which was significantly more demanding compared to Paper 1. NEET-UG 2025: Tough Paper, reduced exam time may push cut-offs down
The NEET-UG 2025 was tougher than preceding years, and hence, experts predict that cut-off marks will be lower for all categories. Factors such as a 20-minute reduction in exam time and challenging Physics numerical problems will potentially contribute to a reduced cut-off. This year, however, NEET aspirants, which was a steadily growing demographic, declined by nearly one lakh, this could improve admission chances. Nitin Vijay, Founder and CEO of Motion Education, said the paper was tough, especially with a lengthy Biology section along with Physics. Under the new pattern, students had 20 minutes less to solve the paper, and all 180 questions were mandatory with no internal choices. He said the cut-off for government medical colleges is expected to be lower. A safe score is projected to be around 595–605 for the General category, 595–600 for OBC, 580 for EWS, 470 for ST, and 460 for SC. Rohit Gupta, Chief Academic Officer at PhysicsWallah, said, 'Considering the overall difficulty level of NEET 2025 and trends from previous years, we expect the general category cut-off to fall between 540 and 560 marks.' He said the paper was concept-heavy. Biology was the most accessible and NCERT-centric. Chemistry had standard and application-based questions. Physics was the most challenging due to numerical and time-intensive problems. Mr. Gupta added that in previous years, cut-offs rose when papers were predictable and NCERT-aligned. But this year's increased conceptual load and the 20-minute reduction in exam time may affect performance. Also, NEET aspirants declined by nearly one lakh. Combined with more medical colleges and seats, this may help improve admission chances. Harish Butle, Founder, Deeper, an NGO that conducts mock tests for competitive exams, explained that cut-offs vary state-wise. In Maharashtra, the cut-off may be 490 to 500 for 85% state quota seats. For the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, it may be around 530-540. He said state merit lists are based on All India Ranks (AIR). Higher AIR means higher merit. Dhruv Chavan said, 'This year's exam was the most difficult to date – students had told me this and I saw the physics paper.' He added that the calculations in physics were tougher and more time-consuming than last year. Numerical questions were lengthy. He expects the cut-off to be between 550–575 because of the tough physics section.
