Kelantan RTD seizes RM5 million luxury cars in statewide operation

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Road Transport Department (RTD) has seized 13 luxury cars valued at nearly RM5 million in a special operation. The statewide crackdown, named Operasi Khas Luxury, began on July 1 and targeted imported and high-end vehicles. Kelantan RTD Director Mohd Misuari Abdullah stated the operation aimed to enforce compliance with road transport laws. Common offences included expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) under Section 23(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Other violations involved no insurance coverage under Section 90(1) and driving without a licence under Section 26(1). Authorities also uncovered cases of document falsification under Section 108 of the same act. Mohd Misuari expressed concern over luxury car owners using fake registration numbers to evade detection. He highlighted instances of foreigners driving luxury vehicles without valid licences as another serious issue. Enforcement actions targeted models like the Toyota Vellfire, Toyota Alphard, and BMW 523i Limousine. Other seized vehicles included a Ford Mustang Fastback, Mercedes E250 CGI, and Nissan GTR. Mohd Misuari stressed that owning luxury cars does not exempt individuals from legal obligations. The RTD will continue monitoring vehicle owners to ensure adherence to regulations. From January to July this year, Kelantan RTD recorded 10,233 offences related to expired LKMs. Additionally, 8,432 cases involved vehicles without insurance coverage. A further 11,004 offences were logged for driving without a valid licence. The operation underscores the department's commitment to road safety and legal compliance. - Bernama

State director Mohd Misuari Abdullah said the operation, which targeted imported and luxury vehicles, was conducted to ensure adherence to road transport laws. He said the main offences detected included expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) under Section 23(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, no insurance coverage under Section 90(1), driving without a licence under Section 26(1), and document falsification under Section 108 of the RTA 1987. "More worryingly, there are luxury car owners who go as far as using fake registration numbers to avoid detection by the authorities, as well as cases of luxury vehicles being driven by foreigners without valid driving licences," he told reporters here on Sunday (Aug 10). He said among the vehicles subjected to enforcement action were Toyota Vellfire, Toyota Alphard, BMW 523i Limousine, Ford Mustang Fastback, Mercedes E250 CGI, Nissan GTR, and several other luxury models. Mohd Misuari said owning a luxury car is not an excuse to dodge the law, and RTD will continuously monitor the conduct of the vehicle owners involved. Meanwhile, from January to July this year, Kelantan RTD recorded 10,233 offences involving expired LKMs, 8,432 cases of no insurance coverage, and 11,004 cases of driving without a licence. - Bernama

10 luxury cars seized after owners 'forgot' to renew road tax, insurance

SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan Road Transport Department (RTD) has seized 10 luxury vehicles, including a Porsche Taycan, Toyota Alphard, and Mini Cooper, in operations carried out between January and August this year in the state, reports said. Its director, Hanif Yusabra Yusof, was quoted by Kosmo as saying that the vehicles, worth hundreds of thousands to millions of ringgit, were confiscated after their owners were found driving without valid road tax and insurance, in some cases for up to two years. "Some owners claimed they 'forgot', but this excuse is unacceptable as it involves both safety and compliance with the law," he said. Hanif said two of the owners were businessmen in their 30s. The department, he stressed, views the matter seriously as driving without insurance poses a significant risk to public safety. "If these vehicles are involved in an accident, it will burden others who may face difficulties in obtaining compensation or covering repair costs," he said. From January to July this year, the Negri Sembilan RTD recorded 10,435 cases involving expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and 7,891 cases of vehicles without insurance, all of which resulted in seizures. Hanif said the main offences leading to such action were under Section 23(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, Section 26(1) (driving without a valid competent or probationary driving licence) and Section 91 (driving without valid motor insurance). He urged all vehicle owners and drivers to take responsibility by ensuring their documents and licences are valid and up to date.

'Go ahead, arrest me': Motorcyclist abuses RTD officers after fine

SHAH ALAM: A motorcyclist fined during a Road Transport Department (RTD) operation verbally abused officers and challenged them to arrest him. The man, who was among 148 motorists fined at the Kemuning Toll Plaza on the Shah Alam Expressway yesterday, continued to rage despite attempts to calm him down, according to Selangor RTD director Azrin Borhan. Azrin said that among the 580 vehicles inspected, the most common offence was driving without a licence, with 76 summonses issued. Other violations included expired Motor Vehicle Licences (51), no vehicle insurance (49), no Goods Driving Licence (eight), and altered registration numbers (eight). "In this operation, we seized eight motorcycles and four cars, issued 13 Inspection Notices, and eight Vehicle Use Prohibition Notices," he said at a press conference at the scene. He added that the majority of motorists with expired road tax claimed they forgot to renew their licences. Meanwhile, the Petaling National Anti-Drug Agency, which also took part in the operation, arrested three local men, aged between 30 and 40, who tested positive for methamphetamine.
