Women helping women dress for success

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)— While Mother's Day was Sunday, a local business is making a large donation of clothing that will help mothers today and in the future. A truck, filled with clothing, could be found outside of Embe today. The truck was filled with boxes and boxes worth of donated clothing from the Movers for Moms event held by Two Men and a Truck. Another chance for Spring Creek Recreation restaurant 'We had people showing up at our office all weekend long and showing up to help sort and bringing more items, so we have even more to deliver after today,' Two Men and a Truck Sioux Falls owner, Angela Drake, said. The business clothing that was donated will go to Embe's Dress for Success program. 'If they're going for an interview, we'll bring them in. They work one-on-one with a styling coach. They get one interview outfit, a pair of pants, dress shoes, jewelry, maybe a top or two. And then once they secure employment, they can come back and they get up to a week's worth of clothes,' Embe Women's Program Manager, Melissa Webb, said. The donated clothing is going to benefit more than just Embe. 'Because of this overwhelming response, we did receive some items that won't quite fit for Embe's Dress for Success. So we dug into our pockets and reached out to other nonprofits that we know could benefit from this, like Call to Freedom and Saint Francis House,' Drake said. Women have been donating clothing for the past few weeks to benefit other women in the years to come. 'There's nothing brighter than women helping other women. We're not only giving them a hand up, but we're also giving them these wonderful items to really steady themselves, entering that new career,' Drake said. 'When we come together as a community, we thrive more, we feel more positive, we're confident, and we can just go out and, you know, do so much more when we're stronger together,' Webb said. Last year, the Movers for Mom's drive collected 174,000 articles of clothing. This year, they exceeded that number, reaching nearly 200,000 donations. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Community donations help mothers in need after experiencing domestic violence

LOVES PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — Community donations are helping get mothers and mothers-to-be back on their feet after dealing with trauma. Marcia Keough said she uses her experience with domestic violence to help others. 'I have been in a situation like this before, and it would have been very helpful to have some kind of things like this,' Keough explained. She is a member of 'Movers for Moms,' a national campaign led by moving company Two Men and a Truck. Over the last month, members at the Loves Park location collected donations ranging from toothbrushes to diapers and other toiletries to give to women in shelters. The group dropped off the first round of donations to Remedies Renewing Center in Rockford, directly to mothers impacted by domestic violence. 'A lot of women, they leave without anything, so they have to start all over again,' Keough explained. 'Their children have to start all over again. So, it's just like comfort for them. We have people calling us to want to be donation locations for this cause.' Sarah Forsell is the Marketing Specialist for the moving company. She said the campaign reached Stephenson County for the first time. 'The Madonna Renewal Center is our Freeport shelter recipient,' Forsell said. 'They're a center for mothers and mothers-to-be in need of assistance. We've partnered with local businesses, schools, churches and we're able to collect thousands of donations. Without the community's help, none of this would have been possible. We just never know how to thank them.' Keough said she encourages people to give what they can, when they can. 'People get up and leave in the middle of the night, and they just leave everything,' Keough said. 'Whatever they can donate, instead of putting it out in the trash, you know, because your kids get older, you don't want it anymore. Donate it to someone who can use it.' The group will bring donations to Madonna on Thursday, May 8th. To learn more about Two Men and a Truck's Movers for Moms, visit their website. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Movers for Moms initiative helps women in need

Mercedes Gibbs was enthusiastic about her company's initiative to help women and mothers in need. Gibbs is the marketing coordinator with Two Men and a Truck's Western Wisconsin division. Her company's national initiative, Movers for Moms, collects donations for family and women's shelters around Mother's Day each year. The event focuses on giving back to the community and supporting those in need; through the collection and donation of essential items, the company aims to support women and families facing difficult circumstances in the areas in which Two Men serves. While Movers for Moms has been active in other parts of the country, this was the first time the Chippewa Valley has participated. 'It's our very first year doing it, so we're really excited to be able to do it this year,' said Gibbs. She was proud to explain that, for Movers for Mom's inaugural event, donations collected would go to support the Bolton Refuge House, the only emergency shelter in Eau Claire. Bolton Refuge House is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week for those whose lives are affected by stalking, violence and assault. 'As Mother's Day is approaching, we really want to take just a little bit off of their plates, and make that day a little nicer and a little easier — just better for them,' said Gibbs. Gibbs said that being a lifelong Eau Claire resident meant that she was also aware of the significance of Bolton Refuge House and its mission to support those in the area. 'It was my call. [Bolton] was the first place that popped to mind when I learned about this campaign and who it benefits. I know how much they do for women in the community, so they were my top pick,' she said. 'They're the only shelter in the area with the type of services they provide.' The Movers for Moms initiative will be collecting a wide range of items until May 9th to support the Bolton Refuge House. These items include canned goods, cleaning supplies, feminine hygiene products, deodorant, toothpaste, brooms, brown leaf bags, diversion safe hair brushes, wi-fi cameras with SD cards, key labels and cap covers, door jambs and locks, security bars, 99% isopropyl alcohol, Amazon Echo Dots, combination locks, sink strainers, garbage cans, soap bars, and hand sanitizer. Gibbs expressed her support for the initiative, emphasizing the significance it holds for her and the positive and meaningful impact it has on those in need. She said that Movers for Moms will 'definitely be continuing' to help those in need next year and in the years to come. 'It means a lot to me, because we really want to support our local communities,' she said. 'We know how much these women are going through. Being the first year doing this, we really want to make a difference.'
