Police corporal denies dangerous driving charge in fatal Gurun accident
GURUN: A police corporal pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today to a charge of dangerous driving, resulting in the death of a teenage boy last week. Azhar Mat Saini, 52, was charged with driving in a dangerous manner that caused the death of a motorcyclist, Muhammad Nur Iman Danial Mohd Roshidi, 16, at a traffic light in Guar Chempedak town here at 9 pm last July 28. The charge, under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987, for causing death by dangerous driving, provides imprisonment for up to 0 years and a fine of up to RM50,000 upon conviction. Magistrate Anis Suraya Ahmad allowed Azhar, who is with the Yan District Police Headquarters, bail of RM6,000 with one surety and set Sept 29 for mention for the submission of documents. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nik Nurhazirah Tuan Yahya, while the accused was represented by lawyer S Parameswaran. - Bernama

Guar Chempedak crash: Parents hope for fair probe into teen's death
ALOR STAR: The parents of a Form Four student who died after being hit by a police officer's car have expressed hope that the investigation will be conducted fairly and transparently. Their son, Muhammad Nur Iman Danial Mohd Roshidi, 16, a student at SMK Guar Chempedak, succumbed to his injuries at 9pm last Thursday at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital's intensive care unit (ICU), three days after the accident. He had been riding a motorcycle when he was struck by a Perodua Axia driven by a policeman attached to the Yan district police headquarters. The incident occurred last Monday. His mother, Norliza Salleh, 44, said she and her ex-husband, Mohd Roshidi Alias, 44, are leaving the matter to the authorities, and hope the investigation will be conducted with integrity. Although a week has passed, Norliza, a nurse, said the pain of losing her second child remains indescribable. "On the night of the accident, he told me he was tired and asked for some money before I left for my night shift at Yan Hospital. "It was around 8.20pm. He held my hand and asked for money before we exchanged goodbyes. I told him to take care if he planned to go out, and he replied, 'Baik, Ibu.' Shortly after, at around 8.52pm, Norliza received a call from her mother, who was in tears as she informed her that Danial had been involved in an accident. "I had just arrived at work. Then an unknown number also called to inform me about the accident. Initially, I wanted to go straight to the scene, but I turned back when I was told he was being taken to Yan Hospital," she said. "I waited at the emergency unit and saw him being brought in. He was convulsing, probably due to head trauma. Blood was coming from his nose and mouth. It broke my heart. "I'm used to saving others in my job, but that night, seeing my child in that state just 30 minutes after I last saw him, was devastating. Norliza said her son was later transferred to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star and admitted to the ICU, where he was pronounced dead three days later. She recalled that in the days leading up to the accident, her son had appeared withdrawn, which she assumed was due to his active involvement in school activities. "He was a kind boy who always offered help. When he heard that a friend's family member had died, he asked for some money to give as a donation. "He was diligent about his prayers and loved going to the mosque. I'm heartbroken. He even dreamed of flying on an aeroplane; his aunt had already booked him a ticket to Indonesia for next month. But he never got the chance. On Saturday, Kedah Police Chief Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah assured the public that the investigation into the incident would be carried out thoroughly and without compromise. He said an internal probe would also be conducted by the police's Integrity and Standard Compliance Department.
