Guar Chempedak crash: Parents hope for fair probe into teen's death
Their son, Muhammad Nur Iman Danial Mohd Roshidi, 16, a student at SMK Guar Chempedak, succumbed to his injuries at 9pm last Thursday at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital's intensive care unit (ICU), three days after the accident.
He had been riding a motorcycle when he was struck by a Perodua Axia driven by a policeman attached to the Yan district police headquarters.
The incident occurred last Monday.
His mother, Norliza Salleh, 44, said she and her ex-husband, Mohd Roshidi Alias, 44, are leaving the matter to the authorities, and hope the investigation will be conducted with integrity.
Although a week has passed, Norliza, a nurse, said the pain of losing her second child remains indescribable.
"On the night of the accident, he told me he was tired and asked for some money before I left for my night shift at Yan Hospital.
"It was around 8.20pm. He held my hand and asked for money before we exchanged goodbyes. I told him to take care if he planned to go out, and he replied, 'Baik, Ibu.'
Shortly after, at around 8.52pm, Norliza received a call from her mother, who was in tears as she informed her that Danial had been involved in an accident.
"I had just arrived at work. Then an unknown number also called to inform me about the accident. Initially, I wanted to go straight to the scene, but I turned back when I was told he was being taken to Yan Hospital," she said.
"I waited at the emergency unit and saw him being brought in. He was convulsing, probably due to head trauma. Blood was coming from his nose and mouth. It broke my heart.
"I'm used to saving others in my job, but that night, seeing my child in that state just 30 minutes after I last saw him, was devastating.
Norliza said her son was later transferred to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star and admitted to the ICU, where he was pronounced dead three days later.
She recalled that in the days leading up to the accident, her son had appeared withdrawn, which she assumed was due to his active involvement in school activities.
"He was a kind boy who always offered help. When he heard that a friend's family member had died, he asked for some money to give as a donation.
"He was diligent about his prayers and loved going to the mosque. I'm heartbroken. He even dreamed of flying on an aeroplane; his aunt had already booked him a ticket to Indonesia for next month. But he never got the chance.
On Saturday, Kedah Police Chief Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah assured the public that the investigation into the incident would be carried out thoroughly and without compromise.
He said an internal probe would also be conducted by the police's Integrity and Standard Compliance Department.

KOTA KINABALU – Lawyer Hamid Ismail, representing the family of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, 13, has confirmed that three voice recordings circulating online, purportedly featuring phone conversations between the teenager and her mother, Noraidah Lamat, are authentic. The viral audio clips, each about 44 seconds long, were widely shared on social media and shed light on Zara's fears for her safety, including her allegations of harassment by a group of senior students at her school. In one of the recordings, the teenager can be heard expressing distress about a senior student referred to as 'Kak M', stating her anxiety over potentially encountering the individual. 'Mum, I'm scared to bump into Kak M. The other day I asked someone to check with her sister and Kak M said, 'Yes, I still haven't forgiven Zara', Mum…' the voice believed to be Zara's can be heard saying. The clip also features the late student worrying about what might happen to her. 'What if she actually does something? The other day she said, 'If I touch you, you'll be bleeding'. If she does that, Mum, what will happen?,' she asked during the call. Policeman to be charged for allegedly causing teen's death in Kedah crash
YAN: A policeman will be charged tomorrow with allegedly causing the death of a teenager in a road crash. Yan district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hamizi Abdullah told NST that the policeman would be charged at the Gurun Magistrate's Court under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving. Yesterday, Kedah police chief Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah said the policeman had been detained, questioned, and fully cooperated with the investigation. He said the case was being handled with the utmost seriousness and transparency. The victim, 16-year-old Muhammad Nur Iman Danial Mohd Roshidi, died at the intensive care unit of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital last Thursday.
