UP govt to spend Rs 44 per head on daily morning snacks to check malnutrition
Lucknow: Under the Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan , launched in eight aspirational districts to address the problem of malnutrition among children aged 3 to 6 years, the govt has allocated Rs 44 per child per day to meet their nutritional requirements through a morning scheme is expected to benefit 11lakh children and has a budget of Rs 254.83 crore. "It has been decided to provide 400 calories and 15-20 grams of protein through the snack to each child. These meals will be provided under the Take-Home Ration model, ensuring both consistency and accessibility. The snacks will include flavoured milk, bananas and other seasonal fruits, and a specially designed millet chikki nutribar," said a govt spokesperson. The official added that the nutribar was piloted successfully in Varanasi and demonstrated a measurable positive impact."It helped to reduce anaemia, stunting and underweight cases among anganwadi beneficiaries. It also boosted both attendance and engagement at anganwadi centres, thanks to its nutritional value and child-friendly taste," the official official added regular assessments by health experts will be carried out to measure outcomes and make necessary adjustments if needed.

CM Yogi launches nutrition scheme for 11L kids in aspirational districts
The Uttar Pradesh government has launched the 'Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan' across all eight aspirational districts of the state, targeting over 11 lakh children aged between 3 and 6 years to fight malnutrition and ensure daily nutritional support, the state government said on Saturday. A detailed action plan has been prepared for the pilot phase of the campaign, under which children will receive nutritious food items like flavoured milk, bananas, seasonal fruits, and a specially designed 'Millet Chikki Nutribar'. These will be distributed under the 'Take-Home Ration' model through Bal Vikas Sewa Evam Pushtahar Vibhag designated centres to ensure accessibility and consistency, a spokesperson said. According to a government statement, the initiative will cover 11,13,783 children in Chitrakoot, Fatehpur, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Chandauli, and Sonebhadra districts. Each child will receive a snack pack worth ₹44 per day, designed to deliver 400 calories and 15–20 grams of protein. The total allocated budget for the initiative is ₹254.83 crore. The Millet Nutribar, one of the key components of the nutrition package, was earlier piloted in Varanasi, where it showed a measurable positive impact. The trial reportedly contributed to a decline in cases of anaemia, stunting, and underweight among Anganwadi beneficiaries. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has stated that child nutrition is not merely a welfare measure but a critical investment in the state's future. The campaign will be closely monitored with regular assessments by health professionals to ensure it delivers the intended results.

U.P. govt gears up for launch of Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan

CM Yogi Adityanath has instructed the department of child development services and nutrition to prepare for the statewide rollout of the Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan. (File photo) The Sambhav Abhiyan has completed four phases, driving significant improvements in maternal and child nutrition by 2024. Recent data shows that 65% of children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) have fully recovered, while 16% have moved to a less severe condition -- moderate acute malnutrition (MAM). The Sambhav Abhiyan, launched in coordination with central government schemes, aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on ending hunger and achieving food security, officials said. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the department of child development services and nutrition to prepare for the statewide rollout of the Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan after a a detailed progress report was presented to him, highlighting the campaign's success, they added. Data shows that in addition to child nutrition, the campaign has significantly enhanced maternal health. Focused efforts on pregnant women have led to a sharp rise in health monitoring efficiency, from 6% to 51%, officials pointed out. Under the Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan pilot, children aged between 3 and 6 years receive take-home rations containing 400 calories and 15-20 grams of protein daily. Anganwadi workers actively monitor and update nutritional data to ensure timely intervention.
