Open Channel: What'd You Think ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps'?
Nearly five full years after Marvel Studios first planted its flag and announced it was coming, the Fantastic Four finally made their MCU debut this weekend. Given the last tries at bringing these heroes to the big screen, and how Marvel treated those characters back when it didn't own them, it seemed there wasn't really anywhere for the Four to go but up. But things have changed in the past five years, and now there's more pressure than ever for them to stick the landing, particularly since this is our first Phase Six movie and a key building block of the soon-to-end Multiverse Saga. Early reactions to the film were pretty glowing, with plenty of praise heaped onto the cast, director Matt Shakman, and the film's retrofuturist look. That praise has cooled off just a little in more official reviews, but the general vibe is still fairly high for the movie, which is just as well since we're going to be getting more of these characters in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, and the larger MCU down the line. As with previous major superhero movies, we want to know what you, the audience, thought of First Steps now that you've seen it. Was it the Fantastic Four movie of your dreams, was Galactus better here than as a cloud, how good was Sue—share your opinions down in the comments below. Want more io9 news? The Fantastic Four First Steps first reviews: Best MCU film of decade, say critics
The first set of reviews of the highly-anticipated 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' is here. The sci-fi action-adventure has been praised for its unique storytelling, stellar performances, emotional depth and on-screen camaraderie among the lead film debuted with an impressive 86% score on review-aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes with a total of 130 reviews. The official critics' consensus on the site reads, "Benefitting from rock-solid cast chemistry and clad in appealingly retro 1960s design, this crack at The Fantastic Four does Marvel's First Family justice."advertisement Josh Wilding of Comic Book Movie wrote, "B-Listers no more. This team has found redemption in a nonstop fantastic adventure that gives the movie a high-stakes feel we know many of you feel has been lacking from several Multiverse Saga titles. Superman soared earlier this month, but 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' is the superhero event of the summer that demands to be watched on the biggest screen possible."While praising the film and the presentation of the villain, Galactus, Peter Debruge of Variety wrote, "The comic-book studio finally does right by the popular quartet, scaling back from the overcrowded feel of recent offerings while delivering its most gargantuan threat yet in the all-consuming villain Galactus." Robbie Collin of The Telegraph ranked the movie above 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Avengers: Endgame'. While calling it 'Marvel's best film in a decade', he said, "Starring an excellent Vanessa Kirby and Pedro Pascal, this reboot feels like the start of an exciting new chapter for Marvel."The cast's performances were commended in several reviews, which also mentioned the chemistry between Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. "The actors are so terrific and their chemistry so palpable that the hangout scenes in their fabulous Baxter Building penthouse — with a domestic droid that's like Rosie the Robot from The Jetsons meets Number 5 from John Badham's Short Circuit — are some of the movie's most appealing interludes," wrote David Rooney for The Hollywood camaraderie between Vanessa and Pedro's characters was praised by Giovanni Lago in his review for Next Best Picture. He wrote, "At its core, this is Reed and Sue's film. They are the characters most deeply tied to Galactus's threat and receive the most whole development. Academy Award-nominee Vanessa Kirby gives the strongest performance among the leads, anchoring Sue's emotional journey through motherhood with conviction. Her chemistry with Pedro Pascal sells their dynamic as both partners and parents."Set against a 1960s-inspired backdrop, the movie introduces the new MCU lineup: Pedro as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Their mission is to stop Galactus (Ralph Ineson), a cosmic force bent on destroying Earth, and face off against his powerful Herald, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).advertisementThe film is directed by Matt Shakman and produced by Kevin Feige.'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' is scheduled to release in theatres on July 25, 2025.- Ends

Kevin Feige Confirms Marvel's Next Big Move and Teases Three More Phases Coming — GeekTyrant
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is far from slowing down. If you thought Avengers: Secret Wars would be the end of an era, you're right, but it's also just the beginning of the next big chapter. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed that the studio is already hard at work mapping out the future of the MCU, and it's going to be massive. Feige recently revealed that Marvel isn't just planning the next phase, they're planning an entire saga. For those keeping track, that means three more phases are on the way. Feige said: 'I mean, we're working on the next… A saga's three phases, so we're working on the next three right now. But really, the first one of the next saga is directly impacted by what we're doing right now with these movies and Secret Wars.' So, where does that leave us? The current Multiverse Saga wraps with Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, and according to Feige, Marvel has a seven-year plan that stretches all the way to 2032. That means Phase 7, and probably beyond, is already being sketched out behind the scenes. This long-term roadmap likely includes major projects fans have been waiting for, like the introduction of the X-Men into the MCU. One of the biggest questions fans have had is whether all those Multiverse Saga post-credit teases, like Harry Styles as Eros and the debut of Hercules, will pay off. Feige addressed this saying: 'There are plans for some and there are opportunities for all. It's about finding what the right… what the right moment is. Some maybe we'll never see again. 'Some maybe we'll see soon. Some maybe it'll be like Tim Blake Nelson, you know, 17 years in between. Who knows? 'What I love about it is it's as much about the actors as it is about the characters. It's as much about our enthusiasm, excitement to work with those actors, which is how almost all those came about, but to see where they go. 'But we will not alter a storyline just to include them simply because they have been seen in the past.' So, just because a character pops up in a post-credit scene doesn't mean they're guaranteed a major role anytime soon. Marvel is prioritizing story over fan service? But, they introduced them in the first place, so it's their own fault that these characters are just left hanging. Feige also touched on something that will make longtime fans raise an eyebrow: recasting classic characters like Iron Man. While it's not happening tomorrow, the idea is very much on the table: Marvel wants these iconic characters to live on, even if that means new actors stepping into legendary roles. Whether that happens in the next saga or way down the line remains to be seen, but it's clear Marvel sees the MCU as an ever-evolving universe rather than a closed book. Look, Marvel Studios isn't going anywhere. With plans reaching into the early 2030s, three brand-new phases on the horizon, and the promise of new sagas shaping the future of the MCU, fans are looking at at least another decade of superhero storytelling. The next saga officially kicks off after Secret Wars , and while Feige isn't revealing details yet the MCU's future is going to be just as ambitious, interconnected, and surprising as ever. What do you want to see in Marvel's next saga? Souce: CB

New The Fantastic Four: First Steps Runtime Is Shorter Than Thunderbolts*
The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be the shortest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie released this year. Last month, AMC Theatres listed a runtime of two hours and 10 minutes, or 130 minutes, for the Fantastic Four reboot, which would have made it one of the longest MCU movies released since the start of the Multiverse Saga. However, with a month to go until First Steps hits theaters, the theater chain has updated the movie's runtime, shaving off almost half an hour. AMC Theatres' website now states that The Fantastic Four: First Steps has a runtime of one hour and 55 minutes, or 115 minutes. While that's still a record for the Fantastic Four franchise, First Steps is now on the opposite end of the Multiverse Saga's runtime lengths, especially when looking at the last six MCU movies released. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still the longest at 150 minutes, followed by Deadpool & Wolverine at 128 minutes, Thunderbolts* at 127 minutes, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania at 124 minutes, and Captain America: Brave New World at 118 minutes. The only MCU movie released in the last three years with a shorter runtime than The Fantastic Four: First Steps is The Marvels, which clocked in at a brisk 105 minutes. 'Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel's First Family — Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus' plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren't bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal,' reads the official synopsis for the MCU movie. Directed by Matt Shakman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is scheduled to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.

Blade movie finally on track after surviving multiple delays
The Marvel fans can finally see the Daywalker's debut soon in the movie 'Blade' as it's back on its track. Mahershala Ali's Blade movie was announced during Marvel's huge San Diego Comic-Con presentation in 2019. Since then, the film has gone through different iterations, losing directors, cast members, and more along the way. In October 2024, Blade was removed from the MCU's release schedule, which meant the film was delayed without any doubt. However, those waiting for the project to make its way back on the list now have a reason to celebrate. David Goyer revealed the Blade movie is seemingly moving forward at Marvel Goyer claimed he approached the studio after Blade had a few setbacks to see if he could help, but he was turned down. According to the writer, Marvel said, "We love you, but we think we've cracked it now, and we're in a good place." Since then, Blade has not made progress publicly, and Goyer has not been contacted, but it seems like the film is still quietly moving forward at the studio. Here is the full quote 'It's so funny, about eight months ago—when not the latest hiccup hit, but like the prior hiccup—I had so many people that would say to me, 'Dude, would you get in there on 'Blade?' Would you just get in there?,' whether it be friends or fans or people on social media. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo And I wasn't even really thinking about it, but then I had my agent call Marvel and say, 'Do you guys need any help?' And they said, 'We love you, but we think we've cracked it now, and we're in a good place.' And then the latest thing happened. And so no, they haven't contacted me.' Mahershala Ali's Blade has suffered a series of setbacks Last year, the film was removed from its November 7, 2025, release date, which Marvel has chosen not to fill with another project. Given how the MCU's upcoming movies — The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars — are all major events key to the Multiverse Saga, Blade started to feel unlikely. However, with Goyer's update on how Marvel feels it has opened up the story for the MCU's Blade movie, which is said to be in a good place, the lack of formal updates might simply be due to a choice of where to fit the film on the MCU's release schedule. Blade is a project that could very well work out after the Multiverse Saga concludes, and with Marvel having four dates reserved for 2028 MCU movies, Mahershala Ali's Blade could be one of those.
