In Andhra Pradesh CM's constituency, woman labourer tied to tree by moneylender, harassed over Rs 80,000 loan; husband flees village

CHITTOOR: A 25-year-old woman labourer, Sirisha, was publicly tied to a tree by a local moneylender after her husband failed to repay a loan of Rs 80,000. The incident occurred in Narayanapuram village, located in the Kuppam assembly constituency, represented by Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. Sirisha's husband, Thimmarayappa, had borrowed Rs 80,000 from moneylender Muni Kannappa around three years ago. Unable to repay the loan with interest on time, Thimmarayappa fled the village, abandoning his family. Following his disappearance, the moneylender began harassing Sirisha to recover the debt, subjecting her to verbal abuse whenever he encountered her. On Monday, Muni Kannappa dragged Sirisha in public and tied her to a tree, ignoring the cries of her two minor children. Locals who tried to record the incident faced aggression from the moneylender. After being alerted, cops rescued Sirisha and her kids. Following widespread social media outrage over the incident, chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu condemned the act and directed the Chittoor police to arrest the culprit. Authorities confirmed that Muni Kannappa has been taken into custody and charged under multiple sections of the BNS Act.
