Guernsey beat Jersey to win back Muratti Vase

Watch the moment Guernsey FA Captain, Ross Allen, lifts the Murrati Vase trophy as the team defeats Jersey's winning streak. Guernsey has reclaimed the Muratti Vase, beating Jersey 3-1 in the first senior men's Muratti match at Victoria Park. The historic victory ended a run of five consecutive defeats and an eight-year wait for Guernsey to get their hands back on the vase. Guernsey flew out of the traps with skipper Ross Allen and Charlton Gauvain putting them 2-0 up after just ten minutes. Karl Hinds pulled one back for the visitors, but Allen grabbed his second and Guernsey's third before half-time. The second half was a fairly uneventful affair. Jersey's Luke Campbell was sent off with 15 minutes to play, helping the hosts to see out the game comfortably. Guernsey FA Captain, Ross Allen, says: "I couldn't ask for anything more, what a special occasion. "The fans showed up in full force. The women were unbelievable this morning, so for us to then back that up was just really special. I hope it inspires people. "We really had the confidence to put on a performance and win today. We put on a performance that we can be so proud of. "It was gritty at times, but we really took it to Jersey and felt we could hurt them early and we did that. "The best thing was that we remained focused, we stayed professional on the job, and we didn't just get carried away even when they scored and pulled one back. "Instead, we went again and got that third goal, which ultimately was key." "I am so pleased because we executed well and at this level, you have to be as professional as you can to get wins in big games. "It doesn't come down to one or two individual performances, it's got to be the whole collective, so I am so proud of everybody." Captain Ross Allen reflects on the team's game plan. Guernsey FA Manager, Dave Merris adds: "I can't really speak of it, these boys have just done the island absolutely proud. "This was their moment and they took it with both hands. They have been outstanding, so all credit goes to them." "I am immensely proud, it was unbelievable and an honour to be managing this group of lads. "The support, the fans, the facility, it all just set itself up for this to be an amazing day." He reflects on the teams dominant start, as Guernsey scored two goals in the first 10 minutes, he says: "It was unbelievable, that is what we wanted, we wanted to be aggressive, be on the front foot and to put pressure on them, so 2-0 in the first 10 minutes is a dreamland." The inter-islands tournament kicked off with the women's Muratti match between Guernsey and Jersey this morning. Guernsey Women took the victory with a 2-1 win, taking the trophy home for a second year running after beating Jersey in their home grounds at Springfield in 2024.

Extra ferry trip between Jersey and Guernsey for Muratti final

DFDS has announced changes to its schedule for the Muratti football matches between Jersey and ferry service operator said there had been "overwhelming demand" from islanders for a one-off return trip between Jersey and Guernsey for the Muratti Vase finals on said a service would depart from Jersey at 08:15 BST, with an evening service to leave Guernsey at 19: change meant two sailings for Portsmouth had been cancelled, with a third delayed, a decision criticised by the Jersey Chamber of Commerce. DFDS said the 21:10 Jersey services to Portsmouth on Friday would be cancelled as well as the 09:00 Portsmouth to Jersey firm said on Facebook: "All customers are being contacted and informed of changes to their bookings, as well as assisted with alternative arrangements. "We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and hope you can join us in wishing the teams the best of luck in their matches." 'Very serious concerns' Jersey Chamber of Commerce said "very serious concerns" had been raised by retailers and food suppliers about the changes to Stena Vinga's said retailers advised the loss of a scheduled freight delivery would delay the arrival of fresh produce and goods essential for weekend trade."This does raise concerns around product availability, increased costs, food waste and customer confidence," it said."With some stock likely to arrive out of date due to shorter product life, these changes in an industry already facing strong headwinds, plus the additional impacts on trade, productivity and profitability, are unwelcome."It said it was also concerned about the lack of prior consultation and limited communication concerning the schedule match will be the first Muratti game to be held at Guernsey's new Victoria Park ground.

Jersey beat Alderney in Muratti Vase semi-final

Jersey booked their place in May's Muratti Vase final after beating Alderney 2-0 in their semi-final at The Arsenal. Jay Dos Santos and Kieran Lester went close early on before Dos Santos broke the deadlock with an excellent curling free-kick into the top corner after 37 minutes. Newly-appointed Jersey boss Jack Cannon should have seen his side double their lead when Lester was denied from close range by a fine save a minute after the restart. Jersey, who had many of their first-choice players in action for title-chasing club side Jersey Bulls, dominated much of the possession. Jamie Mourant had a 77th-minute shot blocked for the visitors while Connor Maher went close five minutes later. Alderney had a couple of late efforts but could not find an equaliser, and just as it looked as though they would record their closest result with the Caesareans since a 2-1 loss in 2017, they conceded a second. Seaney McColgan finished well after some good control from Maher's pass in stoppage time for a goal on his Jersey debut. The defeat means Alderney will have to wait another year to try to end their 105-year winless run - their only victory came in the 1920 final when they beat Guernsey 1-0. Jersey will go on to face Guernsey for the Muratti Vase on Saturday, 17 May. The match will be the first Muratti game to be held at Guernsey's new Victoria Park ground. Jersey FA
