‘She is finally starting to heal': Deborra-Lee Furness dating again after finalising Hugh Jackman divorce

Deborra-Lee Furness is reportedly back in the dating game after she finally inked a divorce settlement with Hugh Jackman to carve up their estimated $250 million (USD) fortune. Furness, 69, and Jackman, 56, separated in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage in a surprise move that shocked Hollywood insiders. The Wolverine star has since gone public with his new relationship with Sutton Foster, who he first met in 2021 while they were both still married and starring in the musical Music Man. Insiders close to Furness have claimed the actress 'had suspicions' about Jackman and Foster and felt 'vindicated' after paparazzi photos confirmed the relationship earlier this year. The beloved Aussie actress is reportedly courting offers from potential dates but is holding back until she can find a partner who 'meets her high standards'. 'Deb is finally starting to heal and talk about what she wants in her life going forward,' an insider told Woman's Day magazine on Monday. 'She's got an incredible support system that's been there every step of the way, helping her to pick up the pieces of her life. 'They are encouraging her to start dating again.' Manhattan-based Furness filed for divorce from Jackman on May 27, roughly two years after their separation. According to court documents obtained by People magazine, Furness' divorce filing indicated the terms of their divorce were uncontested and would only need a sign-off from a judge. It is understood the settlement process was handled behind closed doors, with Furness reportedly walking away very satisfied with the settlement. Furness originally met Jackman on the set of the miniseries Corelli when he was just starting out in the Aussie entertainment industry, and wed the future movie star in 1996. Within a decade, Jackman had emerged as one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood thanks to his role as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, while Furness primarily focused on raising the couple's two children. Furness most recently appeared on the big screen with a major supporting role in Force of Nature: The Dry 2 opposite Eric Bana in 2024. In January, Furness told the Herald Sun she was in 'chapter three' of her life and was reviewing film offers after mostly retiring from the screen during her marriage to Jackman. 'I've had a few offers for films back here so I'm still reading some scripts, so if there's something that's great,'' she said. 'I've got some projects in New York. I'm in my chapter three. I'm a creative, I love being creative in a variety of areas and I think I'll be doing more travelling.'

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness finalize divorce after 27 years of marriage

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have finalized their divorce. According to People, a judgment of divorce was filed in New York's Suffolk County Supreme Court on June 12, and the case status is now listed as 'disposed,' meaning it's no longer active, as of June 23. The former couple share two adopted children — son Oscar Maximilian, 24, and daughter Ava Eliot, 19. Jackman and Furness tied the knot in 1996 and were married for 27 years until their split in September 2023, which was reportedly 'not a snap decision' and 'very hard' on the pair, per People. 'We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,' the pair wrote in an exclusive statement shared by People at the time of their split. 'Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,' they added. 'We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.' Furness officially filed for divorce May 23. At the time, Furness shared a cryptic statement that alluded to 'betrayal' and 'hurt.' 'My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,' she wrote, according to The Daily Mail. 'It's a profound wound that cuts deep.' Furness went on to clarify that 'none of this is personal' and added that she will 'remain grateful.' 'We are drawn to people, we invite them in, in order to learn our lessons,' she continued, 'and to recognize and heal the broken parts of ourselves.' The couple's divorce comes more than five months after Jackman hard-launched his new relationship. The 'Wolverine' actor was spotted holding hands with actress Sutton Foster after a 'low-key, laughter-filled' dinner date in Santa Monica, California, on Jan. 6, per People. Foster, who was previously married to Ted Griffin for 10 years, filed for divorce in October. The couple debuted their romance nearly two years after they co-starred in the Broadway revival of 'Music Man,' which ran from February 2022 to January 2023, according to Fox News. Jackman played conman Harold Hill in the musical, while Foster played his love interest. The performances earned Jackman and Foster Tony Award nominations for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Perfomance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical, respectively. The pair even performed a number from the musical at the 2022 Tony Awards ceremony. But even that wasn't the first dance they shared at the award ceremony. The couple, who first met backstage at a 'Shrek: The Musical' performance in 2008, also shared a dance at the 2014 Tony Awards after introducing the category for best performance by a leading actress. Foster was one of the women nominated for the award for her role in 'Violet.' As for Furness, she most recently appeared solo at the 2025 Parsons Benefit, which took place in New York City on May 20.

Tony Awards cap a record-breaking post-pandemic Broadway season

NEW YORK, June 8 (Reuters) - Broadway caps a record-breaking season when the New York theater community bestows its annual Tony Awards during a gala ceremony on Sunday night with an array of nominees that leans into originality, diversity and artistic invention. Buoyed by a post-pandemic rebound, the 2024-25 season grossed a record $1.89 billion in revenue and drew 14.7 million attendees, the Broadway League said. Best musical nominees like 'Dead Outlaw,' 'Maybe Happy Ending' and 'Operation Mincemeat' tell unique and untested stories. On the play side, 'Oh, Mary!' and 'Purpose' offer vastly different takes on belief, identity and power. The "Wicked" film star, Tony winner Cynthia Erivo, will host the 8 p.m. ET (midnight GMT) show from Radio City Music Hall. Alongside the creative highs are economic realities plaguing producers and audiences alike. Premium seats for some productions run upwards from $400, prompting concern that Broadway is increasingly out of reach for casual and younger theater lovers. Even with lotteries and rush ticket programs, demand-driven pricing has become the norm. 'Every show is its own little startup,' said Rashad Chambers, a Tony Award-winning producer whose recent credits include 'Music Man,' 'TopDog/Underdog,' and this season's Tony-nominated 'Purpose.' 'We have to create shows in a way that's affordable. Not just from the ticket-buying standpoint. The budgets are really ballooning out of control, and in my opinion, it's not always warranted,' Chambers told Reuters. Jason Laks, president of The Broadway League, said in a statement that rising costs have affected every facet of production, making it harder and harder to bring live theater to the stage. The Broadway League presents the awards along with the American Theatre Wing. This season showcased a wide range of voices and perspectives, with many shows being led by Asian American, Black, Middle Eastern and Hispanic actors and resulting in some historic nominations. Daniel Dae Kim, who starred in the revival of 'Yellow Face' this season, is the first Asian American to be nominated in the category of best leading actor in a play. 'To know that I'm the first is a little curious,' Dae Kim told Reuters, 'but above all it makes me happy and I'm really honored.' Dae Kim said representation on Broadway has been an evolution, not just for the Asian American community but many communities of color, pointing to such shows as 'Purpose,' which centers on a Black family struggling with identity and ambition. 'I look forward to the time where there's so much representation that it's no longer talked about because it's just understood and assumed,' he said. Chambers, the producer, said audiences, too, seemed to be more diverse. 'I feel like I'm seeing more people of color,' he said. 'I'm seeing diverse age ranges. I've seen men and women. We have a lot of plays that are appealing to men this season. And I think that that's really powerful. And so yes, I do think it's getting better.'
