Owner Who 'Needed a Break' Tries To Hide From Dog—Does Not Go To Plan
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A woman has shown the reality of life with a fetch-obsessed dog, where not even hiding behind the sofa can give you a break. Christa, who posts to TikTok under the username @christaniner, is the owner of mix-breed Basil, who is part Labrador retriever, Australian shepherd, and poodle. Australian shepherds are known to be a smart, active and work-oriented breed, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC), bred to excel as a herding dog, and with a strong work drive that can make them a handful as a family pet. In Basil's case, her herding and work drive shows up in her obsession with the ball—fetching and returning it to her owner. And she's not ready to take a break, even if her owner is tired. In a viral video posted on August 6, which has already racked up more than 600,000 views, owner Christa hides behind the sofa, her phone pointed upwards to show her hiding spot between the sofa and the curtains to the window. She wrote: "Hiding behind my couch because I needed a break from throwing her ball." But all of a sudden, Basil comes bounding up on the sofa, sticking her head over it with her ball in her mouth, as Christa lets out a cry of shock. Basil clearly thinks this is part of the game, as she begins pawing at and patting her owner, as though nudging her to get back and throw the ball again—which she stilll has in her mouth, and begins chewing excitedly. Christa can be heard laughing breathlessly at her dog's reaction, writing in the caption: "She found me so fast." Basil finds her owner and immediately starts patting her to throw the ball again. Basil finds her owner and immediately starts patting her to throw the ball again. TikTok @christaniner And TikTok users loved it, one commenter joking: "TAG YOU'RE IT," with Christa responding agreeing Basil has "tag skills." Another joked that Basil was saying: "We playing fetch not fetch and hide and seek!" "She said glad I won hide and seek so we can go back to playing ball," another laughed, as one put it: "She's like you're still on the clock get back to your work." Christa herself wrote multiple comments, describing her dog as running "a tight ship," adding: "I can't get anything past her," and "I need a better hiding spot next time." She also revealed that, after this video, she "had to give her an extra 100 throws to make up for hiding!" Newsweek has contacted @christaniner via TikTok for comment on this story. Denise Richards & Aaron Phypers' Domestic Violence Case Explained
has reportedly opened up about the domestic violence she faced from her estranged husband, Aaron Phypers. She revealed in a 'court document' that the latter allegedly threatened to kill her several times in their marriage. The couple had tied the knot in September 2018. So, what happened between Richards and Phypers? Here's everything fans need to know about the same. Denise Richards's ex Aaron Phypers accused of domestic violence The Wild Things actress has been granted a temporary restraining order against her husband. As per a report by People, Denise Richards has accused Aaron Phypers of domestic violence. She detailed the physical abuse in her court filing, alleging her estranged husband frequently choked her. She also stated he would 'violently squeeze my head with both hands, tightly squeeze my arms, violently slap me in my face and head, aggressively slam my head into the bathroom towel rack, threaten to kill me.' Moreover, Richards further claimed that the businessman 'regularly threatened' to break her jaw. However, she noted that he would 'cry, beg me to stay, and promise to get help — none of which ever happened.' In the court documents, Richards also provided images of her swollen face and offered detailed descriptions of some of their violent episodes. She alleged that on July 4, Phypers came within two inches of her face and abused her verbally. Additionally, the Blue Mountain State actress mentioned that she threatened to call the police the next day. However, Phypers allegedly said, 'I would like to see the cops take me away; I will blow everything up if they try.' Aaron Phypers addresses domestic violence accusations The Canadian businessman responded to the allegations via an official statement. Speaking to People, Aaron Phypers denied the accusations. The 49-year-old stated, 'Let me be unequivocally clear: I have never physically or emotionally abused Denise — or anyone.' Phypers added, 'These accusations are completely false and deeply hurtful. Denise and I, like many couples, have faced our share of challenges, but any suggestion of abuse is categorically untrue. I have always tried to approach our marriage with love, patience, and respect.' Aaron Phypers concluded the statement, asking for privacy as they navigate the 'personal matters.' Notably, he had previously filed for divorce from Denise Richards on July 4, citing 'irreconcilable differences' as the cause of their breakup. Denise Richards Reportedly Scared Estranged Husband's Parents According To 911 Audio
Denise Richards left a lasting mark on the hearts of Aaron Phypers' parents, but for the wrong reasons. The actress's unannounced visit to the frequency medicine practitioner's house to pick up a pet amid an active restraining order did not go down well with his parents. Denise Richards won a temporary restraining order against Aaron Phypers in July after she accused him of domestic abuse during their marriage. Denise Richards' Ex-Husband Conveyed His Worries To The Dispatcher The dispatcher who handled Phypers' emergency call for help confirmed that he was told by the informant (Phypers) that his ex-wife broke into his home. "Informant left informant's ex-wife's home with his parents. Informant no longer in the area and fears for his parents," the dispatch conveyed in the short clip. Phypers reportedly lived in the home invaded by Richards with his parents and brother, and they were all startled by Richards' arrival despite her restraining order against Phypers. As reported by TMZ, an agitated Richards at the door was finally let in by Phypers' parents to pick up the dog as claimed. However, when she got into the home, she got confrontational with the parents by screaming at them, shoving her fingers in their faces, and even getting into a heated exchange with her ex-brother-in-law. The Bravo Star's Attorney Insists She Did Not Break Any Law After receiving the Sunday call and arriving at the home authorities stated that there was no evidence that Richards committed any crime. The TV star's attorney also defended her actions by showing up at her ex's home despite serving him a TRO amid their messy divorce. As seen on PEOPLE, Richards' attorney, Brett Berman, emphasized that his client did not flout any rules by going to the home. He stressed that the visit was necessary after his client learned that her ex had gotten rid of one of their two dogs "without her knowledge or permission." An insider then clarified that Richards' account of events is skewed as Phypers opted to exit the house through a side door after Richards continually banged the main entrance door. Phypers also slammed his ex-wife's attorney for trying to protect the actress by masking the truth. Having the title of attorney or being a celebrity does not put you above the law. It does not give you the right to humiliate others for the sake of your interests. Both of these actions have been readily apparent here in the last couple of weeks," the frequency medicine expert concluded in the statement. The Television Personality Accused Her Ex Of Regularly Threatening Her With Abuse In her temporary restraining order filing, the star shared that her estranged husband frequently displayed signs of physical and verbal abuse towards her. Richards identified instances of her ex squeezing her head, her arms, and even slapping her on the face. She also accused him of threatening to kill her and break her jaw, after which he would promise to change and get help, but to no avail. Richards added that despite all the promises, he never made a move to get help, and the cycle continued, including their last fight, where he hurled hurtful words at her and came too close to her face. She attached images of her swollen face alongside her petition, adding that when she told him she would call the police the day after July 4, Phypers threatened not to go down without a fight. The actor, however, debunked these claims, reiterating that while their marriage had challenges, abuse was never part of their struggles. What Happened On The 4th Of July With The Estranged Couple? Phypers informed the court that their official day of separation was the 4th of July, and the marriage ended due to irreconcilable differences. But for Denise, the day was a terrible experience, which involved Phypers' dad. According to The Daily Mail, she noted that she moved out of their shared home into a studio townhouse in 2023 following tensions in their marriage. She then informed Phypers on July 4, 2025, that his family needed to move out of the family home, which pissed off her ex-husband. She noted that the actor became verbally violent and even grabbed her aggressively despite knowing that she was recovering from a critical surgery. Richards added that he soon returned with his father, Stephen Phypers, who joined him in calling her unprintable names and threatening to expose the private contents of her phone to the media. Her estranged husband then reportedly ran off with her laptop purse, which contained important information like her credit card and passport. "I followed Aaron out to his car but could not catch him. I went to my daughter's house for safety because I could not go to a hotel — Aaron had my purse with all forms of payment," Richards added. Denise Richards Sought Legal Help To Repossess Her Devices From Aaron Phypers The 54-year-old dashed to the courthouse with a plea that the judge order her estranged husband to return all the items he took from her, including her cellphones, laptop, and recordings. She explained that they all contained sensitive information that would significantly affect her image should they get into the hands of the media. Richards added that some of her explicit photos, including a picture of her breasts and bare buttocks already made their way to a media outlet. However, Richards noted that Phypers' unrestricted access to this sensitive media content is a violation of the temporary restraining order, and the act of sharing nude photographs is in itself a criminal act. The TV star emphasized that the action already distressed her, and the court's cautioning her ex-husband against a plan he allegedly already commenced would offer her comfort. She also sought a return of all devices taken from her possession by Phypers. What is next for Denise Richards and Aaron Phypers as they turn this corner? Solve the daily Crossword
