Ohio State softball slugger enters the transfer portal
Ohio State softball slugger enters the transfer portal I guess until you are known as a softball power, these sorts of things happen. The OSU softball team had a major turnaround this season under new head coach Kirin Kumar, finishing in a tie for fourth place in the Big Ten with an offense that led the country in several major categories. It was enough for the Buckeyes to head to the NCAA Tournament as a No. 2 seed in the Knoxville Region, where they got knocked out by host Tennessee in the championship round. The offense was led by All-American and unanimous First-Team All-Big Ten performer, Jasmyn Burns. The catcher belted 25 home runs, knocked in 75 RBIs, and batted .455 over the course of the season. She wasn't the only slugger in the lineup who had a career year, but there's no doubt that she was the most feared in the lineup. Sadly, Burns won't be back on the banks of the Olentangy next season after announcing that she will be entering the transfer portal. It'll won't be easy to replace Burns' bat in the OSU lineup, and this is clearly a big loss for a program searching for its first NCAA Super Regional appearance since 2009, but it is a sign of the times, and until Ohio State can start to win on the biggest of stages, it is a bit exepected. Now we'll see if Coach Kumar and the program can continue the momentum it clearly gained this past season as it looks to build something in Columbus.

USC baseball holds off Saint Mary's, advances to regional final
USC baseball holds off Saint Mary's, advances to regional final On Friday, USC baseball won its first NCAA Tournament game in 10 years. On Saturday night, the Trojans followed it up with another victory, defeating Saint Mary's 6-4. The Trojans will play for a regional championship. They are one of 32 teams left standing at the 2025 NCAA Baseball Tournament. USC fell behind 3-1 early in Saturday's game against Saint Mary's. However, Augie Lopez tied it up with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and Ethan Hedges hit a solo shot in the fifth to give the Trojans the lead. USC added an insurance run in the seventh, and escaped a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the eighth inning allowing just one run to preserve a 5-4 lead. USC added one more in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin. USC's Caden Hunter, who spent the majority of the season as a starter, came out of the bullpen to pick up a four-out save. With the victory, USC advances to the Corvallis Regional final. Saint Mary's will face Oregon State at 3 p.m. Pacific time on Sunday. The Trojans will play the winner of that game shortly following, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. Having won both of its first two games, USC has the significant advantage of coming out of the winner's bracket. If the Trojans win Sunday night, they will advance to the NCAA Super Regional. Should they lose, they would get another crack at either the Gaels or Beavers on Monday. USC has not been to the super regional round of the tournament since 2006. Sunday night, the Trojans will aim to end that drought.

Auburn baseball tabs Cam Tilly the starting pitcher vs. Central Connecticut State
Auburn baseball tabs Cam Tilly the starting pitcher vs. Central Connecticut State Cam Tilly will be on the mound as the Tigers open the NCAA Regional against Central Connecticut on Friday. The Auburn Tigers begin their quest to the College World Series on Friday evening when they host Central Connecticut State in their regional at Plainsman Park. On Thursday, Auburn announced that Cam Tilly will take the mound as the starting pitcher. Tilly has started five games this season and has a record of 3-3. Throughout the season he has pitched a total of 45 innings and has struck out 58 batters. Tilly has lost his previous two starts in games versus Ole Miss and Texas A&M. The loss against the Aggies occurred in last week's SEC Tournament that saw the Tigers make an early exit. His last win as a starter occurred when the Tigers defeated South Carolina 24-2 on May 8. He pitched five innings in the game allowing one run from two hits. Tilly also struck out six batters in the win. He will be facing a Central Connecticut State team that led the Northeast Conference in batting with a team average of .331. They were not a great team with the long ball this season, only hitting 36 home runs. That ranks in the bottom half of the conference. Their best hitter is infielder Aidan Redahan. His batting average is .458 and he hit nine home runs. He led the Northeast Conference with runs batted in with 69. Behind Redahan is Antonio Ducatelli with a .348 batting average that ranks sixth in the conference. Tilly will look to shut down the bats on Friday evening to get the Tigers closer to the NCAA Super Regional. The game will start at 6 p.m. CT and can be seen on ESPN+. Auburn Regional: Scouting the Stetson Hatters
Auburn Regional: Scouting the Stetson Hatters The Stetson Hatters would present an intriguing matchup for the Tigers. The Auburn Tigers will open up their regional on Friday evening against Central Connecticut State. A potential opponent for the Tigers beyond Friday is the Stetson Hatters from the ASUN Conference. Stetson holds a 40-20 record and won their division with a 24-6 record. Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast shared the conference championship after the final game being canceled due to weather. The Hatters were a solid team on the road this season, posting a 14-10 record away from home. Stetson is coached by Steve Trimper who is in his ninth year with the team. Over that time he is 281-193, and the Hatters are making their third appearance in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. In 2018, they reached the NCAA Super Regional. They were eliminated by North Carolina in the Chapel Hill Super Regional. Stetson is second in the ASUN in batting average at .280. Leading the way is infielder Isaiah Barkett with a .380 batting average that ranks third in the ASUN. He also scored 53 runs with 79 hits and 30 stolen bases. Leading the Hatters with homeruns is infielder Lorenzo Meola with 11. Outfielder Jordan Taylor leads the team with 16 doubles. Stetson was the best team in pitching in the ASUN Conference. They led with a 4.17 ERA. The Hatters top pitcher is left hander Jonathan Gonzalez. He has a record of 9-2 through 14 starts. He is second in ERA (2.26) and first in strikeouts (101) in the ASUN. If the Tigers meet the Hatters on Saturday, it should not be assumed that they would face Gonzalez. Stetson will play NC State on Friday at 1 p.m. CT with the game being broadcast by ESPN+.
