"Attack on India's soul is just not accepted": Supriya Sule stresses zero tolerance on terror in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa [Ethiopia], May 31 (ANI): Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SCP) MP Supriya Sule, who is leading the all-party Indian delegation visiting Ethiopia, met with former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn on Saturday and discussed bilateral cooperation, regional development, and the global fight against terrorism. Speaking after the meeting, Sule called the interaction 'excellent,' lauding Desalegn's five-decade-long engagement with Ethiopia's political and economic landscape. 'They have seen a lot of conflict here. They have seen ups and downs in their economy and growth. But under his leadership, they had double-digit growth and many infrastructure projects--be it beautiful dams, railways, industrial parks,' Sule noted, drawing parallels between India and Ethiopia's shared developmental aspirations. 'We had a detailed discussion and told him what happened in Pahalgam. The attack on India's soul is just not accepted. And we all must commit ourselves to zero tolerance against any terrorism anywhere in the world. India will not accept any terrorist attacks anymore,' Sule stressed, underlining the main theme of the delegation's engagements across the region. Sule also welcomed Ethiopia's inclusion in the G20 during India's presidency last year, calling it a significant milestone in India-Ethiopia ties. 'It's very important for us to come here today to talk to them. We were very warmly received and reassured that in this journey of eradication of terrorism, Ethiopia still stands together solidly with India,' she said. Commenting on Ethiopia's bilateral relations with Pakistan, Sule said that terrorism must be opposed globally, regardless of geopolitical alignments. 'I think globally, everybody agrees that there has to be zero tolerance against terrorism. So I think we are very hopeful that when it comes to terrorism, we all stand united, whoever the other country may be, but we will not accept any terrorism anywhere in the world anymore.' Meanwhile, echoing similar views, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, a member of the delegation, highlighted the need for decisive action against terror-sponsoring states. 'We don't find the difference between terrorist organisations and the states sponsoring terrorism, we see the similarities in them. We will not be restraining ourselves, but for the security of the country, for the safety of the country, we will try to eliminate the threat of this terrorism wherever it is in whichever country that is sponsoring it,' he said. The all-party delegation led by Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule, arrived at Bole International Airport in Ethiopia on Friday, where they were received and welcomed by the Ambassador of India to Ethiopia, Anil Kumar Rai. The delegation concluded its diplomatic visit to South Africa with a series of meetings involving political leaders, think tanks, and the Indian diaspora at India House in Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa. The delegation includes NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule, Rajiv Pratap Rudy (BJP), Vikramjit Singh Sahney (AAP), Manish Tewari (Congress), Anurag Singh Thakur (BJP), Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu (TDP), Anand Sharma (Congress), V Muraleedharan (BJP), and former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin. The visit, part of India's broader diplomatic outreach following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam and the subsequent Operation Sindoor, aimed to deepen bilateral ties and convey India's firm stance against cross-border terrorism. The Group-7 all-party delegation, led by Supriya Sule, concluded its diplomatic visit to South Africa with a series of meetings involving political leaders, think tanks, and the Indian diaspora at India House in Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa. Members of the delegation included Supriya Sule, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, former Minister of Commerce & Industry, V Muraleedharan, former Minister of State for External Affairs, and Syed Akbaruddin, former Permanent Representative of India to the UN. The visit, part of India's broader diplomatic outreach following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam and the subsequent Operation Sindoor, aimed to deepen bilateral ties and convey India's firm stance against cross-border terrorism. During their South Africa stopover, the delegation held important discussions, including a key meeting with Fikile Mbalula, Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC). Mbalula emphasized the strong political and social ties between South Africa and India and expressed solidarity with India in its fight against terrorism. Speaking in Johannesburg, Mbalula said, 'It is important that today we managed to meet with the multi-party delegation from India. It is important for us to get that important briefing because India is an important partner, first and foremost with the South African government, but also politically as the African National Congress has strong roots with Indian political parties, as well as the biggest population of Indians in our country... We are all advocating peace, but we are against terror and terrorism in all its manifestations... In this particular instance, we advocate for peace and justice and co-existence among nations... A multilateral approach is very important in terms of intervention... We have pledged our solidarity with India in terms of engagement in the fight against terrorism...' She also thanked her constituents, stating, "I am deeply grateful to the people of Baramati Lok Sabha constituency for your continued support." "India Always Leads Globally For Peace": Indian Delegation In South Africa
Johannesburg: An Indian all-party delegation led by NCP-SCP leader Supriya Sule held a joint press conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, during the ongoing diplomatic outreach mission following Operation Sindoor. Speaking at the press conference on Thursday (local time), Ms Sule reflected on the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, whose shared values of non-violence and peace bind India and South Africa. "India has always globally led for peace and the deep relationship, friendship we have had with South Africa, the country of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela - two sons of this global soil who have always talked about non-violence. So, we feel very close to South Africa." Ms Sule addressed the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, including a Nepali National. "We have come here to South Africa to tell people of South Africa what really happened in India five weeks ago. There was a brutal attack on India's soul. Twenty-six innocent people on vacation were shot. It is a very unfortunate event," she said. Ms Sule further stressed India's democratic ethos, stating, "In any vibrant democracy, we should accept what the will of the people is. That's the beauty of democracy. India is a vibrant democracy, and it globally accepts all democratically elected governments. India is very sensitive to any such thing happening anywhere in the world. We are very sensitive to such things, and if there's any way in which India can help, we would be glad to do that." Additionally, Congress MP Manish Tewari, also part of the delegation, highlighted the bipartisan nature of the group as a reflection of India's unified stance against terrorism. He said, "India is a very diverse multi-party democracy. So, on this platform you have people representing different political parties, from the Government to the Opposition." Mr Tewari underscored India's position on cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan. He said, "The manner in which this delegation has been structured and the way in which it has been constituted is to convey our national resolve that if terrorism keeps getting perpetrated against India from across the border, if Pakistan continues to use terrorism as an instrument of state policy, if you have a state on our western border where there is no distinction between the state and the semi-state actors that are its pawns then under those circumstances it is our national resolve that under no circumstances would that be tolerable. India then reserves the right to energise the full spectrum of options that are available to it in order to protect and defend its national interest." The members of the delegation comprise of MPs Supriya Sule, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna devarayalu, Anand Sharma, former Minister of Commerce & Industry, V Muraleedharan, Former Minister of State for External Affairs, and Syed Akbaruddin, Former Permanent Representative of India to the UN. Earlier, the delegation also visited Constitution Hill, Johannesburg, where Mahatma Gandhi was imprisoned, and also saw the Mandela-Gandhi Exhibition inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi and paid floral tribute at the Gandhi Statue. On April 22, terrorists killed 26 people, including a Nepalese national, in Baisaran valley in the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. India launched 'Operation Sindoor' on May 7 in response to the attack, which targeted 9 terror bases and led to the death of terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
