NEOM McLAREN ON PODIUM AGAIN AS DS PENSKE FINISH ONE-TWO IN SHANGHAI ROUND 10
NEOM McLaren Formula E Team's Taylor Barnard has once again finished on a podium, having crossed the finish line of the 2025 Hankook Shanghai E-Prix in third place. Meanwhile, Maximilian Guenther headed home a maiden one-two for DS PENSKE, as teammate Jean-Éric Vergne sliced by two cars on the last lap to seal the deal in the Round 10 race. Barnard had led, having sliced by the front-runners through the final chicane and away from the pack to the tune of almost two seconds on Lap 21 of 29. Oliver Rowland (Nissan), who currently leads the FIA Drivers' World Championship standings, had a lap's worth of that 50kW, four-wheel-drive ATTACK MODE boost over Barnard and made it by late on, but Guenther himself had 30 seconds over Rowland – enough for what was ultimately the race-winning move over the start-finish line on Lap 26. Barnard produced a storming move around the outside of Rowland to switch back up the inside of the Nissan a turn later at the chicane on Lap 27 for what looked like second spot, but late pressure from Dan Ticktum (CUPRA KIRO) opened the door to Vergne. The double champion produced his own wizardry to jump by Barnard and Ticktum for second at the flag and a first podium of Season 11, leaving that pair third and fourth respectively. Rowland finished fifth, just ahead of Nissan teammate Norman Nato, after being shuffled out of the podium spots late on. All that leaves Rowland maintaining his lead at the top with 171 points, with Barnard now second in the Drivers' standings (85 points), just ahead of TAG Heuer Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein (84 points). Nissan still heads both the FIA Teams' World Championship and FIA Manufacturers' World Championship tables, with Porsche in second place. NEOM McLaren are fourth in the Teams' Championship with 112 points. Taylor Barnard, No. 5, NEOM McLaren Formula E Team said: 'Honestly, my main emotion is that I'm a bit confused! I was sitting at the back for a very long time; I was quite good on energy but I didn't understand how the race was playing out. The team did a great job with the strategy because I came out of the pit lane in sixth so I thought, 'now I can fight!', but I need to look at the race after to understand a little bit better what's actually happened. I was really struggling with energy on the last couple of laps so I did my best in the last few corners. I'm super happy to get another podium, another 15 points in the bag.' Round 11 on Sunday, 1 June gets underway with just one Free Practice, followed by qualifying and the race. Formula E extends London E-Prix deal with Excel London
Formula E has announced it will continue running the London ePrix around the Excel exhibition centre until at least 2026, with the indoor/outdoor spectacle allowing both parties to drive their commitments to sustainability and the environment. Formula E brings a global television audience to Excel London, a unique event for the exhibition centre as it is the only one of over 300 events held annually to utilise its entire 125,000 square metres of space. Advertisement The race itself catches the eye as it passes through the exhibition space while also running externally parallel to the building, allowing Formula E to stage a race in the capital of the United Kingdom, just a stone's throw from the centre of London. But, for all of these shared positives, the alliance – which has now been extended until at least 2026 and the end of the series' GEN3 Evo cars – also sees the all-electric series align with Excel London on their shared green ambitions. The first race at the Excel took place in during season seven, a double-header in July 2021 that marked Formula E's return to London following a five-year absence, having previously been located in Battersea Park. 'Formula E has formally announced the extension of its contract with Excel London until at least 2026, allowing the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship to continue using the world's first and only indoor-outdoor racetrack until the end of its GEN3 Evo era,' a statement confirming the new deal read. Advertisement 'The extension means that the East London location is predicted to host the final race of the season 12 calendar, where 22 world-class drivers will compete for the coveted drivers', teams' and manufacturers' world championship trophies. 'The contract extension also means fans will be able to see the full GEN3 Evo lifespan race as this generation of car will take to the track for the final time in the UK ahead of the much-anticipated all-new GEN4-spec car in late 2026.' Advertisement 'Its unique track conditions and event space offers fans and drivers the very best of our sport, bringing the best racing and entertainment together in a truly unique venue at the heart of the capital, while all delivered sustainably.' Driving that sustainability has become a key branch of the agreement between Formula E and the venue, as Darren Norman, director of immersive entertainment and events Excel London, explained to 'If we look back when we first started those early meetings on creating this sort of Scalextric, indoor- outdoor, up-and-down ramps through an exhibition hall, I remember looking at everyone thinking, is this even possible?' he said. 'But you've got a lot of very smart track designers and technical people who know far more about how to make that work than I ever will, and as soon as I heard it is technically possible, then you start going into solution mode and saying, well what do we need? Advertisement 'What do we need to do with the floor indoors because it's polished concrete, not very good for turning and actually, with the polyformer we use, we have more grip inside than outside on the tarmac, all part of fairly considerable work needed to bring in a track that was FIA-compliant.' But since then, the partnership between championship and host venue as developed into much more. Advertisement 'All of the concrete blocks needed to make a racetrack, Formula E used to store them and then lorry them in, but they are a carbon-neutral championship so what we do is we now store then on site, that's 260 blocks on site at the Excel,' revealed Norman. 'There is also no car access to the venue, everyone arrives by public transport, which again really feeds into Formula E's key strategy on that net-zero pledge. 'That is also a nice segue into the fact the Excel just won the Exhibition News' ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) award for being the best in the UK, so we also take it very, very seriously. We are carbon-neutral, and we've now set our own net-zero target to 2045. We're already quite well on the way to that.' Charitable work has also been undertaken as a collaboration between Excel London and Formula E, helping the immediate areas around the venue, including Richard's House Children's Hospice and – through the championship's Better Futures Fund – providing a €25,000 grant to buy an electric van for Community Food Enterprise, a food bank charity in Newham, and allow it to complete deliveries in a sustainable manner and avoid ULEZ (ultra-low emission zone) tariffs. Advertisement The worldwide exposure also brings brand awareness and value to Excel London, as Norman concludes: 'It is a very important piece of business to us. Our business model is relatively straightforward. We are an open church to anybody that wants to create an environment to bring people together. 'The fact that Formula E takes all of that campus means it's important for us from a calendar perspective, but it's also a really great event for us to host because it shows a different side to the venue, it shows what we can do.' The 2025 London ePrix will close out season 11 of Formula E, with two rounds taking place at Excel London on July 26-27. To read more articles visit our website.

WEHRLEIN WINS MIAMI E-PRIX AFTER LATE PENALTIES THAT COST BOTH NEOM MCLAREN DRIVERS
Entertainment Web Release Selection By Editor_wr On Apr 13, 2025 In a chaotic Miami E-Prix, Pascal Wehrlein strategically used his ATTACK MODE to overtake teammate António Félix da Costa, ultimately winning after a late-race red flag and subsequent penalties reshuffled the results. Lucas di Grassi secured second, earning Lola Yamaha ABT's first podium, while da Costa finished third. Numerous drivers, including polesitter Norman Nato and both NEOM McLaren Formula E Team drivers, were penalised for failing to utilise their mandatory ATTACK MODE due to the race's interrupted conclusion. The race featured multiple lead changes, a Safety Car period and a dramatic three-car crash, culminating in a frenetic five-lap sprint to the finish. Andretti Formula E's Nico Mueller, Edoardo Mortara of Mahindra Racing and polesitter Nato completed the top six, respectively. Prior to the red-flag incident, both NEOM McLaren drivers ran an incredible race. Notably, Sam Bird made up 14 places and crossed the finish line in fifth while Taylor Barnard finished in eighth from his 11th place start. However, because neither driver used their mandatory ATTACK MODE before the red flag forced an early race finish, Bird and Barnard were each hit with a 10-second penalty resulting in them dropping to 18th and 20th place respectively. The Miami E-Prix result more than doubles Wehrlein's points score for the season, moving him to third in the FIA Drivers' World Championship behind da Costa and Oliver Rowland – despite the Brit's non-score. TAG Heuer Porsche leads Nissan 105 points to 79 in the FIA Teams' World Championship standings, with NEOM McLaren Formula E Team sitting in third with 67 points. Nissan leads Porsche in the FIA Manufacturers' World Championship 144 points to 120. For a full lap-by-lap race report, visit: Pascal Wehrlein, No. 1, TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, said: 'We were lucky with the Safety Car to be honest, but I think we've had enough bad luck so we can also be lucky for once. Great job by everyone for bringing home this result. I knew that all the cars behind still had an Attack Mode to do – some of them six minutes – and my team kept me informed who was within six minutes. I still wanted to finish the race in P1 over the line, and I tried, but I knew that there was a penalty coming for [Norman] Nato and it is what it is.' The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship continues at a double-header event, Rounds 6 and 7 in Monaco next month, on 3-4 May. Nissan Formula E Team takes excellent win and second place in maiden Jeddah E-Prix
Nissan Formula E Team's Oliver Rowland took a dominant victory in Round 4 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, backing up his second-place finish the day before. Having qualified second, the British driver put in a great performance, leading for much of the race and executing a perfect Attack Mode strategy to return to the front in the latter stages. In a healthy position in terms of energy, Rowland extended his gap to almost six seconds, leading a Nissan-powertrain 1-2, with NEOM McLaren Formula E Team's Taylor Barnard taking second. Meanwhile, after starting 10th on the grid, Norman Nato picked up positions on the opening lap before losing out through the Attack Mode phase. In a tightly-packed field, the Frenchman was unable to save energy for a late push and crossed the line 15th at the end of the 31 laps. Rowland's victory added to his second-place finish in Friday's race, which saw the debut of Pit Boost. These performances take his tally for the season to 68 points, putting him on top of the Drivers' Championship. Nissan Formula E Team has also leapt to the top of the Teams' standings. Meanwhile, podiums in both races for the Japanese squad and the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team see Nissan open up a 47-point lead in the Manufacturers' Championship. Earlier in the week, Gabriele Minì took part in the rookie-only FP0 for the team. The Italian racer, who will compete in Formula 2 in 2025, previously drove for Nissan Formula E Team in Berlin last year and furthered his Formula E experience on Thursday around the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. Completing a solid session, Minì helped the squad to collect data ahead of the event, setting the second-fastest time. Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team: 'We are very happy to take our second win of the season today following yesterday's P2, especially at such an important venue for both Nissan and our innovation partner Electromin. The second race of a double-header is always a challenge as every team has a lot of data from the previous day, but we made some good adjustments overnight. In qualifying Norman was unfortunate to miss out on the Duels, but Oli did a superb job to line up on the front row. In the race, Oli saved energy early on, which allowed him to move to the front and push. The strategy was perfect, staying out of trouble when needed and taking the right amount of Attack Mode at the correct time. On Norman's side, starting in the midfield is not easy and it was difficult to save energy early on, which meant he couldn't move forwards at the end. Despite some challenges, we are very proud to finish this race week in Jeddah holding the lead in all three championships. However, this first part of the season has also highlighted some areas to improve on. Our focus now is to keep working to address those points in the upcoming gap before Miami. Our competitors will improve so we must also do the same to keep on performing at this level and hold our position in the standings.' Oliver Rowland, driver, Nissan Formula E Team: 'I'm so happy to have taken another victory with a great performance in Jeddah. Qualifying second was great, I dropped back early and made the most of the slipstream to save some energy which was the perfect scenario. At times it was getting a bit aggressive in the pack, so I chose those moments to get to the front and stay out of trouble. Our strategy with Attack Mode was perfect and it ensured I was able to extend a gap at the front for a smooth finish. The car was fantastic all weekend, they were two very different races but we performed strongly on both days. It's amazing to be leading all three championships but our focus is on taking it race-by-race and doing our best to be in a good position at the end of the season.' Norman Nato, driver, Nissan Formula E Team: 'We had a strong car this weekend, but just weren't quite able to put it all together. The technical infringement yesterday was frustrating and it put us well out of position and unable to make the most of the strategy in the Pit Boost phase. Then today, it was a tough race, I got up to P7 in the early stages but it got messy in the pack and I dropped a few positions after some contact. We tried a different approach in an attempt to break into the top-10 but it didn't happen for us. It's frustrating to leave with no points, we have a competitive car, as proven by Oli, and I'm feeling comfortable on track, but some bad luck and a few mistakes have made it difficult. We'll keep working and we are determined to learn from this weekend and come back better to fight for the top positions.' Gabriele Minì: 'It was an interesting FP0, I learned a lot and improved massively throughout the session. It's a very different car to the one I drove in Berlin, the tires made a massive difference with the increased grip levels. It was great to do laps in both 300kW and 350kW power modes and I'm pleased to have helped the team and completed a smooth session. I'm happy with my performance and would love to drive the car again if there is an opportunity. Well done to the team for such an incredible weekend and hopefully the form can continue for the rest of the season!'
