Two Eagles games named among NFL's best of the past 25 years

Two Eagles classics land on a list of the top 25 NFL games of the past 25 years. These young Philadelphia Eagles certainly are spoiled, aren't they? Three Super Bowl appearances since the 2017-18 NFL season have led to two Lombardi Trophies and countless memories that will last a lifetime. No one is complaining. Those of us who are older have also appreciated this run. We've been battered by the disappointment that sometimes comes with being lifelong Philadelphia sports fans. Twelve teams have never won a Super Bowl. Some of them seem as though they're getting further away from having any real shot at accomplishing that goal. The Eagles, however, have continued to be one of pro football's model franchises, one that has gifted its fans and city with many great memories. A recent NFL ranking confirms the lasting impact of two Eagles classics In total, the Eagles have won five championships. Three titles preceded the 1966 NFL/AFL merger, with Philadelphia winning NFL Championships in 1948, 1949, and 1960. The aforementioned Super Bowls were won in the 52nd and 59th editions. It's impossible to count the number of classic wins we have seen. Two of those wins were mentioned in a unique NFL ranking. With a quarter century in the books, Sports Illustrated recently stacked the top 25 games of the past 25 NFL seasons. Two iconic matchups featuring the Birds cracked the countdown. The 'Miracle at the New Meadowlands' cracks the list at number 16 thanks to a come-from-behind victory and DeSean Jackson's walk-off punt-return TD. To no one's surprise, Philadelphia's shootout with Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and the New England Patriots cracks the top five. It's a game that's first on Eagles fans' hearts but fourth on SI's ranking. "The Eagles' creativity won them this epic back-and-forth thriller. They unleashed the iconic Philly Special when Foles went to the sideline near the end of the first half, asking coach Doug Pederson to run the trick play. Foles moved away from the center and allowed running back Corey Clement to take the snap before tossing it back to tight end Trey Burton, who found a rolling Foles for the touchdown connection." Ranked ahead of Super Bowl LII are '13 Seconds', Patrick Mahomes' dagger in overtime to give the Kansas City Chiefs a win over the Buffalo Bills during a playoff shootout that went into overtime. That ranks third. Seattle's decision to blow the Super Bowl by passing instead of handing the ball to Marshawn Lynch found its way into the number two slot. Frankly, Super Bowl LII was a better game than both of those contests. Tom Brady and the Patriots' come-from-behind effort in Super Bowl LI ranks first. They erased a 28-3 deficit on the big stage, so we guess we can live with that. The only question remaining is as follows. Where on Earth is Super Bowl LIX? Maybe our views are slanted and our desires are rooted in selfishness, but one of the greatest upsets in league history should, at minimum, be top five.

Flag football championships return to Canton next month

June 26 - About 300 teams representing all 32 NFL clubs will compete in the second annual flag football championships next month in Canton, Ohio. The league announced details Thursday for the NFL Flag Championships from July 17-20, with 3,000 boys and girls participating across 12 divisions. "We are thrilled to bring the NFL Flag Championships presented by Toyota back to Canton for the second consecutive year," said Stephanie Kwok, NFL vice president and head of Flag Football. "The Championships are a strong showcase for the growth of flag football at the grassroots level across the country and around the world. Flag is inclusive and accessible for all, and we are excited to see the competition across all age groups at the 2025 NFL Flag Championships." Flag football continues to surge in popularity ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics, where it will debut as an official sport in Los Angeles. The NFL announced last month that its players will be allowed to compete. In the July event, eight international teams are participating, traveling from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Great Britain, Mexico and Puerto Rico. ESPN will showcase 15 games from the girls' high school division, 15 from the boys' under-14 division and three from the international tournament. "The NFL Flag Championships are quickly becoming the ultimate summer showcase for one of the world's fastest growing sports," said Julie Sobieski, ESPN senior vice president of league programming and acquisitions. "For the second consecutive year, our presentation and expansive global distribution will spotlight the exceptional talent of the young boys and girls competing, while also celebrating the inclusive, fast-paced, and accessible nature of flag football. This year's tournament will not only build upon the tremendous success of the inaugural event, but will also add to the sport's immense momentum in recent years." --Field Level Media

Eagles land in all three of ESPN's most probable Super Bowl predictions

Eagles land in all three of ESPN's most probable Super Bowl predictions The Worldwide Leader in Sports has spoken, and the belief is the Eagles are the NFC's most likely representative in Super Bowl 60. Reaching the Super Bowl is tough. Every offseason, all 32 teams begin another quest with the same goal: to qualify for football's biggest game and win the Lombardi Trophy. Seeing as how only one team can accomplish that task, the probability seems slim, which makes the Philadelphia Eagles' accomplishments during the past eight NFL seasons more special. Since the AFL-NFL merger in 1966, the Eagles have reached the grand stage five times. They've won two of their last three, and had there not been a slippery field in Super Bowl 57, we may be discussing six titles in total, three NFL Championships, and three Lombardi Trophies. If a repeat is in the cards, it seemingly won't be easy, but the Worldwide Leader in Sports seems supremely confident in the Birds' chances. ESPN names the Eagles as the NFC's representative in their three most likely Super Bowl 60 matchups. "The Philadelphia Eagles are the favorites to win Super Bowl LX -- but just barely, with a cluster of teams close to the reigning champs in terms of ability and chance to hoist the Lombardi Trophy." Those are the words of ESPN's Seth Walder. He references the ESPN Football Power Index in his take on 2025 projections and Super Bowl chances. "The Eagles have a 12% chance to win the Super Bowl, according to the model, the lowest chance the preseason favorite has had to win it all since the model began outputting preseason projections in 2015." Philadelphia tops the 'elite tier' in the model. The familiar contenders follow them to round out the top five. For fans of numbers and stats, there's even better news. Philadelphia is the NFC's representative in the three most likely Super Bowl 60 matchups. They are as follows. Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs Eagles vs. Baltimore Ravens Eagles vs. Buffalo Bills The likelihood of them landing in all three of those games is 4%. The Eagles saw a mass exodus of talent during the free agency frenzy that began the league year in March, but they've retooled with inexpensive signings and a very impressive 2025 NFL Draft class. Most importantly, the roster's veteran and young core is intact, one that now has a championship pedigree. Chances at glory rest under the Birds' noses. All they seemingly have to do is work hard and give it a whiff.

Bought for $100, now worth over $6 billion: Why the Chicago Bears might just be the smartest investment in the history of professional sports

From $100 to $6 billion: How the Chicago Bears became the greatest sports investment in history (Chicago Bears) Imagine owning your favorite pro sports team — being in that exclusive inner circle where decisions shape legacies and fortunes. For most people, that's a fantasy reserved for video games and dreams. The reality? Team ownership is the ultimate billionaire's playground. Even the most underperforming franchises are worth hundreds of millions, while championship-caliber teams demand valuations in the billions. It's a club reserved for the ultra-wealthy, with even minor league ventures often proving to be financial sinkholes. How the Chicago Bears turned pocket change into a $6 billion empire over 100 historic years But every rule has an exception, and in the world of professional sports investments, the Chicago Bears are that golden outlier. What began as a modest $100 investment by George Halas in 1920 has now evolved into one of the most iconic and valuable franchises in sports history. That original $100 — equivalent to about $1,500 today — wouldn't even get you a lower-level ticket at Soldier Field now. But it did give Halas complete control of a fledgling football team back then. Fast forward to 2025, and the Bears are worth over $6 billion. It's arguably the greatest investment story in American sports history. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Fashion Design Courses Fashion College Learn More Undo What makes this tale even more fascinating is that the Halas family still owns the franchise. Virginia Halas McCaskey, daughter of George Halas, is currently the principal owner. Her family's long-standing control over the Bears is one of the last remaining examples of generational ownership in the NFL , a league now defined by hedge funds, tech moguls, and corporate giants. Despite the lack of recent on-field success, the value of the Bears continues to skyrocket. A big reason for that lies in the NFL's growth into a financial juggernaut. From humble beginnings, the league has ballooned into a $20 billion empire. Television rights, global marketing, and the rise of fantasy football have turned franchises into billion-dollar businesses, whether they win or not. The Bears may not have added much silverware in the Super Bowl era, with just one Lombardi Trophy secured in 1985, but their legacy stretches far beyond titles. They've won 8 NFL Championships, mostly in the pre-merger days, and their longstanding rivalry with the Green Bay Packers — which began in 1921 — remains the oldest continuous rivalry in the league. The franchise's iconic orange-and-blue colors draw inspiration from the University of Illinois, and their nickname 'Bears' was a nod to the Chicago Cubs, symbolizing the bond between baseball and football in the city. But make no mistake — things are changing fast in Chicago. With a new stadium project looming and the dawn of the Ben Johnson era on the horizon, the Bears are entering a transformative chapter. They'll kick off the 2025 NFL season under the bright lights of Monday Night Football, hosting the Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field. This will be more than just a game — it will mark a new beginning for a team that's hungry to return to relevance. Before the regular season kicks off, Chicago will play three preseason games starting in early August, with two of those at home. With an extra road game on the schedule this year, the chance to showcase their talent in front of home fans during the preseason becomes even more valuable. While most of us can only fantasize about owning an NFL team, stories like that of the Chicago Bears keep the dream alive. 'Could you imagine purchasing an NFL franchise for $100?' That's not just a rhetorical question — it's a testament to how vision, timing, and belief can turn the improbable into a legacy worth billions. In an era where sports are driven by data, deals, and deep pockets, the Bears' journey is definitely a reminder that even the biggest success stories often begin with something small — like $100 and a dream. Chiefs fail to match Packers in three-peat territory, and fans reacted accordingly after Super Bowl

"Not Like Us." That seemed to be the sentiment for prideful Green Bay Packers fans after the Kansas City Chiefs' 3-peat quest was denied Sunday night in Super Bowl 59. The Packers can send their thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles. Led by Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts and a dominant defense that forced three turnovers and smothered Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Eagles soared to their second Super Bowl championship in a runaway 40-22 victory at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. That outcome, of course, meant the Chiefs came up short in becoming the first team to win three straight Super Bowl titles. Many Packers fans don't appear too mad at that outcome. The Packers' two 3-peats from a previous era first in 1929-31 and then in 1965-1967 appeared to be getting ignored in the lead up to the game. Late in the game, the Fox broadcast recognized the Bart Starr-led Packers as the last NFL team to accomplish a 3-peat. Yes, the first title in that stretch fell prior to the advent of the Super Bowl, but the Packers were champions of the NFL in three straight years, regardless. Packers supporters on social media were quick to make note of this on Sunday night. And some used Kendrick Lamar's diss track "Not Like Us" that he performed during the Super Bowl halftime show to prop up the Packers' unmatched history in comparison to the Chiefs: Only NFL Teams to Three-Peat:Green Bay Packers: 1929, 1930, 1931Green Bay Packers: 1965, 1966, 1967The NFL Team that has talked about Three-Peats the Most:The 2024 Kansas City Chiefs…they not like us — (@PackersHistory1) February 10, 2025 Credit to Fox for finally recognizing the Packers 3-peat 🤝 — Hogg (@HoggNFL) February 10, 2025 '67 Packers popping a bottle of champagne — Dan Shafer (@DanRShafer) February 10, 2025 Raise your hands if you're the only QB to win three straight NFL Championships — Eric Drews (@GreenGold4Ever) February 10, 2025 Teams that have won three consecutive @NFL Championships:1929-31 Green Bay Packers1965-67 Green Bay PackersEnd of to the @Eagles on winning the LOMBARDI trophy. — Wes Hodkiewicz (@WesHod) February 10, 2025 THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT #GoPackGo — Zack 🧀 (@ShowtymeZack) February 10, 2025 Yeah baby!
