NHAI project director penalized for neglected repairs

Vadodara: In a first, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) official was penalized for not repairing National Highway 47 in Mahisagar district. The district road safety committee imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the project director of the NH47 project implementation unit (PIU). The letter to the NHAI on Friday said that in a meeting in May, the road safety committee ordered all agencies to complete road repairs by June 18. "But the project director didn't follow the directions, after which a notice was issued on July 5 and an explanation was sought from the project director," the letter states. "Two fatal accidents were reported at Vadadla village as the project director didn't follow the directions. The district road safety committee is a statutory body, and its directions were ignored repeatedly, for which the project director is responsible," the letter said. Under the Gujarat Road Safety Act 2018, the road safety committee imposed a penalty of Rs 500 for each day from June 18 till July 7.
