On Thursday (March 13), the show's organizers Better Brothers Los Angeles and The DIVA Foundation announced the official slate of performers and presenters for the annual awards ceremony celebrating Black LGBTQ+ creatives, including NLE Choppa, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Coleman Domingo, Ava DuVernay and Tamar Braxton. While most of the newly announced attendees will serve as presenters and special guests at the ceremony, Choppa will offer his debut performance during the ceremony. 'True progress requires us all to lean into discomfort and emerge stronger,' BBLA co-founder Scott V. Hamilton said in a statement. 'The presence of allies like NLE Choppa underscores that our stories resonate beyond boundaries.' This won't be the rapper's first time celebrating the LGBTQ+ community during his career: When he thanked the community in 2024 for their support of his song 'Slut Me Out 2,' Choppa made his position on acceptance clear in a post to X. 'IDC what's normalized as a rapper, I was raised to F— with who f— with you! So thank y'all for appreciating my craft,' he wrote. 'My music For ALL we do NO Discrimination.' The new slate of stars will join in celebrating the evening's honorees, including filmmaker Lee Daniels, who is set to receive the event's lifetime achievement award. 'Visibility transforms lives; it disrupts outdated scripts and writes new ones where love conquers fear,' Ralph, who also serves as founder of the Diva Foundation, said in a statement about the Truth Awards. 'This celebration serves as a mirror reflecting our truth and a window into what lies ahead.' The 2025 Truth Awards will take place Saturday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Tickets for the event are currently available at the Truth Awards' website. Generate Key Takeaways In a revelation that surprised even the most diehard Hip-Hop fans, A$AP Rocky has shared that legendary actor Denzel Washington has a deep appreciation for contemporary Memphis rap — and not just in passing. According to the Harlem rapper, the Oscar-winning actor regularly bumps artists like Pooh Shiesty, Moneybagg Yo, and NLE Choppa on set. Speaking on The Run-Through with Vogue podcast, Rocky opened up about his experience working alongside Washington on their upcoming film Highest 2 Lowest, a reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 crime thriller High and Low. A$AP Rocky attends The 2023 Met Gala Celebrating 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty' at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 01, 2023 in New York City. While the collaboration itself was a dream come true for Rocky, what really caught him off guard was Washington's music taste. 'Denzel would pull up to the movie set playing Pooh Shiesty and Moneybagg Yo, swear to God,' Rocky said during the interview. 'Can't make this up.' He continued, 'He likes to listen to Memphis rappers, but modern Memphis rappers.' Rocky went on to describe a surreal moment when Washington began quoting lyrics from NLE Choppa. Denzel Washington attends 'The Equalizer 3' photocall on October 19, 2022 in Atrani, Amalfi, Italy. 'Then he started quoting NLE Choppa. I'm like, 'You know NLE Choppa?!' He like, 'I don't do drive-bys now, walk 'em down.' I'm like, 'Yo, Denzel, chill!' It was crazy, he's really tapped in, man.' Directed by Spike Lee, Highest 2 Lowest is set to premiere later this month at the Cannes Film Festival, with a theatrical release date of Aug 22. The film will also be available for streaming on Apple TV+ starting Sept 5. A$AP Rocky attends Rihanna's 5th Annual Diamond Ball at Cipriani Wall Street on September 12, 2019 in New York City. The project marks a unique moment in both Washington and Rocky's careers — one bridging the worlds of classic cinema and contemporary street culture. Though Denzel's Hip-Hop bonafides aren't worn on his chest, Rocky, who's known for his own syrupy sound, seems to have found an unexpected kindred spirit in the 70-year-old actor. NLE Choppa denies 'gay baiting' accusations over viral 'playgirl' photoshoot

NLE Choppa is setting the record straight after a viral photo from his Playgirl shoot sparked accusations of queerbaiting. The 22-year-old rapper, currently in Paris for Fashion Week, took to social media to address the criticism. He responded directly to a tweet claiming he was "gay baiting," clarifying that he was simply expressing "freedom" and comfort in his own skin. In a video from his hotel bathroom, Choppa explained, "I just feel like narratives get painted because I don't care so much," adding, "But do not say that I'm a gay baiter because I'm comfortable enough to show off the perfection that God has orchestrated over my physical, my mental, my spiritual, and even my emotions." Choppa continued, "I am not a gay baiter because I posted a selfie in the mirror showing off how beautiful I am. I am not a gay baiter if I post a picture showing off how much God has blessed from below the waist with something that got women going crazy. I am not a gay baiter because, in [my] Playgirl shoot, I show a piece of my ass. I can't show a piece of my own ass without being called a name? It's my ass!" — NLE Choppa (@Nlechoppa1) The rapper, known for his hit "Slut Me Out 2," also expressed his love for himself, explaining that his confidence as a Black man is often misunderstood. He wrote on X, "I understand me being in love with myself as a BLACKMAN is so RARE to the point that some people try putting the homosexual jacket on my name." In previous statements, Choppa made it clear that while he supports the LGBTQ community, his romantic interests are exclusively with women. He also addressed the backlash from his desire to perform at a Pride event, saying, "I'm secure, I know who I am. Show love, it won't hurt and also you do know women are a part of the LGBTQ community right[,] you gone hate them too?"
