2025 NRL Schoolboys Cup: Brad Fittler celebrates 50 years of schoolboys rugby league, finals series, live stream
Don't miss out on the headlines from Rugby League Live Stream. Followed categories will be added to My News. The hunt for the next Greg Alexander, Payne Haas or Tom Dearden is set to ignite over the next month as the NRL Schoolboys Cup finals series kicks off. Schools in both Queensland and New South Wales will battle it out over a series of finals showdowns to earn their shot at becoming national champions. Every match of the NRL Schoolboys Cup finals series on both sides of the border will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV. Palm Beach Currumbin SHS will play in the Queensland schoolboys cup finals series. Picture: Liam Kidston While the future will be on full display in the lead up to the national final on September 17, it will also be about celebrating the past as the schoolboys cup celebrates its 50th year. From the moment inaugural champions Patrician Brothers College Fairfield hoisted the Amco Cup in 1975, through to Palm Beach Currumbin's last-gasp matchwinner in last year's national final, the schoolboys cup has produced countless memorable moments and a number of the game's best talents. The list of Peter Sterling Medal winners, for the schoolboys player of the season, from the past 50 years features some of the game's top talents. From Peter Sterling himself in 1978 to Paul Langmack, Nathan Cayless, Adam Reynolds and the three mentioned above, it is an impressive list. But the impact of the schoolboys cup runs much deeper, as it helped launch the careers of incredible talents like Keebra Park's Benji Marshall or McCarthy Senior Catholic School's Brad Fittler. The NSW legend, who made his NRL debut while still eligible for the schoolboys cup, said the competition had provided some of his earliest memories around the game. 'The Schoolboy Cup is something I remember watching as a kid,' he said. 'I used to get up and watch Benny Elias, Greg Alexander and David Greene. I watched the Schoolboy Cup as closely as I did the Premiership. To be able to play in the Schoolboy Cup with McCarthy was a real highlight. Picture: David Hickson 'Then to be able to play with the players I used to watch as a kid – the players I watched on TV – that was really special and played a huge role in my own career.' The national finals will be split across both states, with the Peter Mulholland Cup quarter-finals kicking off in NSW on Wednesday. The opening round of the finals will feature a blockbuster clash between the most successful school in the competition's history, St Gregory's College, up against the most successful NSW school over the past decade, Patrician Brothers College, Blacktown. The Queensland finals series is split across three regional competitions with the Langer Trophy (SEQ) and Dolphins Cup (CQ) semi-finals kicking off on Tuesday, while the Aaron Payne Cup (NQ) semi-finals are on Thursday in Townsville. Reigning Peter Mulholland Cup champions Patrician Brothers Blacktown are into the finals once again. Picture: Tim Hunter. 'The finals in NSW and Queensland will no doubt produce some amazing moments and showcase the game's next stars,' Fittler said. 'It's remarkable that the competition has been going strong for 50 years and it will continue to be a major pathway for the game.' Reigning champions Palm Beach Currumbin SHS, who were the first Queensland school to clinch the national title in 2001, are still in the race for the title and will look to continue a recent run of dominance for the Sunshine State. Queensland schools have won six of the past eight national finals in the last decade with Westfields Sports High clinching the other two in 2016 and 2023.

St Gregory's College will need to find a way to fight fire with fire despite missing their inspirational leader Ryan Mackander and dummy-half Brock Achurch. It will be up to guys like Lorima Cosgrave and Jake Gaffney to take the fight to a trio of Patrician Brothers big men Steven Nunn, Cordell Arama and Steven Whalan.

Peter Mulholland Cup live stream: Westfields Sports High v Central Coast Sports College
Don't miss out on the headlines from Rugby League Live Stream. Followed categories will be added to My News. Carter Mareko to Isaac Fotu-Moala to Dayne Jennings. Rinse and repeat. The Central Coast Sports College trio were first class as they led a first-half demolition of Westfields to book their spot in the Peter Mulholland Cup finals. The trio combined to help set up or score five tries in the first half, as Central Coast stormed their way to a 42-10 win at McCredie Oval. CHECK OUT THE FULL MATCH REPLAY ABOVE It was a simple gameplan that was executed to perfection and that will haunt Jason Demetriou's players at Westfields Sports High as they spend the next year wondering just what happened. Fotu-Moala opened the scoring inside three minutes after supporting a Jennings line break back through the middle. The slick five-eighth did it twice more in the first half, with Mareko and Jennings taking turns setting him up with their sharp footwork beating the front line. Fotu-Moala's first half hat-trick was separated by a double to flying winger Corbin Devaney who made little mistake on the end of almost carbon copy inside work from the school's star trio. It was a first half blitz with Central Coast scoring 32-unanswered points before the break. Westfields will take plenty away from their second half performance, with the injection of utility back Cooper Carr sparking the fight from the western Sydney nursery. Hayden Bell tried his heart out at dummy-half while skipper Zain Alameddine had a hand in both of the school's second half tries. With the win Central Coast move to second in Pool D with a 2-1 record, progressing to the finals for the second-straight season along with pool leaders St Gregory's College. Westfields, who have now missed the finals two years in a row, will have to wait for next year's Peter Mulholland Cup to make their mark on the NRL Schoolboys Cup. It's not the end of the action though, with several of the school's top stars heading away with the NSW CHS side next month at the ASSRL National Championships. PREVIEW Everything is on the line as Westfields Sports High and Central Coast Sports College go to battle in round three of the Peter Mulholland Cup. A spot in the quarter-finals awaits the winner, while the loser has to wait another 12 months for their shot at glory. The match will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV from 12pm Thursday. It wasn't always the case for WSHS to find itself in this position, when they trailed by 14 against Hills Sports High with a little over 10 minutes to play. From that point on their season changed, finishing with a flourish to keep them on track to advance to the next stage. 'I felt we looked a lot more cohesive in our second game,' Westfields coach Jason Demetriou said. 'We still have to tidy up some of our discipline, but there were some exciting signs. We come into this third game with a bit more fluency and are looking forward to the challenge.' Demetriou praised the way his troops were able to stick with it, not being disheartened by the scoreline and finding a way to claw out a win. 'I was really impressed with our resilience,' he said. 'To go almost the length (to win the game) with all our key players touching the ball, it was an impressive way to seal the game. 'Zain (Alameddine) was outstanding for us. In key moments he wanted the ball in his hands and when you have your captain wanting the ball like that, it's a good sign. 'Hayden Bell control the ruck really well and I thought our middles were really strong. Every player contributed.' He knows the task that awaits his side against a strong Central Coast outfit, but hopes they can take their upwards trajectory into the most important game of the season to date. 'For us it's to take the lessons (out of those first two games),' he said. 'I want us to take some confidence out of it too. Being able to get our senior players together at training has made a massive difference and the back up in a week helps. 'We're getting better every week.'
