Ben Bobzien: Amiri's insider tip for fantasy football

Kicker report that Ben Bobzien will finally be given a chance at Mainz 05 after three successive loan deals. The carnival city club extended the player's contract until 2027, and he'll now provide squad depth to the team competing in Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and European Conference League. According to kicker, Mainz's star Nadiem Amiri tipped him to be the surprise of the upcoming season before putting a timeframe of January by saying 'he still needs a bit of time'. Bobzien assisted the former Germany international in a 5-0 friendly win over Seekirchen. After his time at Elversberg and Austria Lustenau, Bobzien enjoyed his best season in professional football with Austria Klagenfurt. He scored 12 goals in all competitions for the Austrian club. However, only one of those goals came after 2025 as they ended up getting relegated to 2. Liga. Ex-Bayern striker Carsten Jancker couldn't save Klagenfurt after taking the helm with only four games to go. Nonetheless, Mainz are not looking for another loan ahead of a congested season. The player who joined the club at the age of 12 will have to compete with Hong Hyun-seok, Paul Nebel and Jae-Sung Lee for playing time in Bundesliga. The former Germany U20 international hasn't played for Mainz since making his debut in a DFB-Pokal tie three years ago.

Man United transfer priority could be solved by wildcard £17m signing compared to Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United's summer transfer business is starting to take shape. As we head towards July when the transfer rumour mill really begins to wind up, United have been heavily linked with moves for attacking midfielders, goalkeepers and forwards. Advertisement But while signing a new midfielder was also considered a priority this summer, the links with specific players have been few and far between this summer. READ MORE: Manchester United can end transfer uncertainty with £64m deal for Europe's 'most hidden secret' READ MORE: Unthinkable transfer, priority solved - Five players Man United should target from u21 Euros Bruno Fernandes is expected to drop deeper this season and play in a central midfield role, while United still have Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro as options to partner him. But given Fernandes will be the first name on the team sheet, it is perhaps wise to look at players with similar characteristics to the United captain as a way of identifying players who would thrive in Ruben Amorim's midfield. Advertisement Using DataMB's player similarity generator tool to bring up players with similar characteristics to Fernandes, Mainz midfielder Nadiem Amiri ranked in the top five most similar players to the United skipper. The 28-year-old left Bayer Leverkusen last summer after falling out of favour under Xabi Alonso but has reinvented himself as one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga since moving to the MEWA Arena. Amiri scored eight goals and bagged five assists from midfield last term and was a key driver in Mainz finishing in sixth place and securing European football next season. The Germany international was named in the Players' Bundesliga Team of the Season and, despite having three years left on his current deal at the club, would be a fairly cheap option for United to consider - particularly when they are seeking big money moves in other positions. Advertisement Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann is a big fan of Amiri, having previously coached him at Hoffenheim, and praised him when recalling him to the national side in March. "Nadiem is having an outstanding season," Nagelsmann said. "He's a very good example of how you can take a step back to push your career forward." Valued at around £17million by Transfermarkt, United could do a lot worse than look in Amiri's direction in their bid to strengthen their midfield options.

Inter Milan defender Bisseck to miss Germany games after getting injured in Champions League final

MUNICH (AP) — Inter Milan defender Yann Aurel Bisseck will miss Germany's upcoming Nations League games after getting injured in the team's Champions League final loss to Paris Saint-Germain. Bisseck only made a short appearance in Saturday's final, going on as a substitute in the 54th minute, then off again in the 62nd with an apparent right leg injury. The German soccer federation (DFB) said Sunday that Bisseck had muscular problems at the back of his right thigh, ruling him out of the Nations League semifinal against Portugal in Munich on Wednesday, as well as the final or third-place playoff against Spain or France four days later. Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann called up Monaco defender Thilo Kehrer in Bisseck's place. Kehrer was to join the rest of the squad Monday at its training base in Herzogenaurach. The 28-year-old Kehrer has made 27 appearances for Germany, though none since June 2023. Mainz midfielder Nadiem Amiri left the camp Saturday and will miss the games with what the DFB said were 'adductor problems.' Nagelsmann had previously called up Mainz forward Jonathan Burkardt to replace the injured Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller. Stiller wasn't fully fit but was involved in three of Stuttgart's four goals as it defeated Arminia Bielefeld 4-2 in the German Cup final. ___ AP soccer:

Germany sweat over Yann Aurel Bisseck's fitness

Yann Aurel Bisseck's Champions League final appearance lasted just eight minutes as Inter capitulated against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday night. The 24-year-old replaced Benjamin Pavard in the 54th minute but after a sprint and collision with Achraf Hakimi, sustained an injury that could rule the defender out of Germany's UEFA Nations League finals campaign. Bisseck was nominated by Julian Nagelsmann for their game against Portugal on Wednesday night in Munich, with the Nations League final on Sunday. According to Sport Bild, a thigh strain is the early diagnosis, which would likely see Bisseck ruled out of Germany's upcoming games. Germany's injury concerns grow ahead of UEFA Nations League finals It's a blow to Nagelsmann and Germany, who have already seen Nadiem Amiri withdraw from the squad while Jonathan Burkardt – both of Mainz – also sustain an injury, although the latter should be fit enough to play a part in the squad. Bisseck's injury would leave Nagelsmann with Jonathan Tah, Robin Koch and Waldemar Anton as the team's remaining central-defenders, until a replacement is called upon. GGFN | Daniel Pinder

Midfielder Amiri leaves Germany camp due to adductor problems

Mainz's Nadiem Amiri celebrates scoring his side's first goal during the German Bundesliga soccer match between FSV Mainz 05 and Bayer Leverkusen at Mewa Arena. Torsten Silz/dpa Midfielder Nadiem Amiri has left the Germany training camp due to adductor problems, the German Football Federation (DFB) said on Saturday. The DFB initially didn't announce a replacement. The national team gathered at the training camp in Bavaria's Herzogenaurach to prepare for the Nations League Final Four on June 4-8. Advertisement Germany face Portugal in the semi-finals on Wednesday. The winner will face either 2020-21 champions France or title holders Spain in the final. Due to the preparations for the tournament, coach Julian Nagelsmann and DFB sporting director Rudi Völler have decided to skip the Champions League final in Munich between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan. "We received an invitation, but we said 'thank you' and won't be going," Nagelsmann said. "We will stay with the team and watch the final together, because we want to use the time with the group. Otherwise, we would be away for half a day," he explained. Advertisement Nagelsmann added that, in his position, one should remain neutral, but said that he will have his fingers crossed for national team player and Inter defender Yann Aurel Bisseck. "We have a player in the final, fingers crossed he makes a good game and come to us with a successful result. That would be better for him and for us," he said.
