Rally held on ‘Backstab Day'
Anantapur: YSR Congress Party district president Anantha Venkatarami Reddy launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of betraying the people after making grand promises before the elections. As part of the State-wide protest dubbed 'Vennupotu Dinam' (Backstabbing Day), YSRCP leaders and cadres staged a massive rally in Anantapur on Wednesday, denouncing as one year of failed governance by the NDA alliance under Naidu's leadership. Reddy alleged that the Naidu-led coalition government had failed to fulfill any of the 143 promises it made before the 2024 elections, including the widely publicised 'Super Six' guarantees. He highlighted that schemes such as Rs 20,000 per year for farmers, Rs 15,000 for mothers under Thalli ki Vandanam, Rs 1,500 monthly support for women, and Rs 3,000 unemployment benefits for youth remain unimplemented even after a year in power. Venkatarami Reddy criticised the government for allegedly using police and administrative machinery to target YSRCP leaders and suppress opposition voices. He accused the TDP-led government of engaging in 'diversion politics' due to its inability to implement welfare schemes and warned that even officials siding with the ruling party would not be spared from public scrutiny. Party parliamentary observer Naresh Kumar Reddy echoed similar sentiments, stating that not a single Super Six promises had been fulfilled in one year. He criticised the government for prioritising capital city infrastructure over rural development and said that under Jagan Mohan Reddy's rule, the education system thrived, unlike under the current regime. The YSRCP leaders concluded by affirming that their fight for the people's rights will continue, whether in power or in opposition. The protest began with paying tributes at Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Tadipatri bus stand, followed by a rally from Chennakesava Swamy temple to the Collector's office. Participants carried placards and raised slogans. Later, they submitted a petition to district Collector Dr Vinod Kumar V.

East Godavari (Andhra Pradesh) [India], June 4 (ANI): YSR Congress Party, led by YS Jaganmohan Reddy, organised a rally in Rajamahendravaram Rural, East Godavari, on the occasion of 'Betrayal Day', to mark the first anniversary of the TDP-led government. YSRCP East Godavari District President and Former Minister Chelluboyina Venugopala Krishna led the rally. Following the rally, the former minister submitted a representation to the District Collector. A large number of party leaders, workers, and supporters actively participated in the rally, which was organised to protest against the N Chandrababu Naidu government. YSRCP shared posts on X, showing visuals from protests marking 'Betrayal Day' held in multiple locations. The rally in Rajampet was led by Meda Raghunath Reddy. MPs Mithun Reddy and Maddila Gurumoorthy participated in the rally in Sarvepalli constituency, and Chandragiri constituency in-charge Chevireddy Mohith Reddy organised a huge rally in Chandragiri constituency. According to an X post by YSRCP, after the rally, MP Gurumoorthy said that the coalition government came to power by making false promises to the people, and it is ridiculous for the coalition leaders to say that today is a festival day for the people. The MP said that people think that this is not a government that celebrates festivals, but a government of pure violence. He said that the false promises given by the coalition will burn the coalition government like fire in the coming days. He warned that YSRCP workers and leaders are being harassed with illegal cases to divert people's attention from election promises, and there is no point in being afraid of such wildfires. He said on this occasion that more such protest programs will be organised against the failures of the government in the future. Sharing a video on '1 year of CBN Back Stabbing', YSRCP wrote on X, 'Super-6 turned out to be a golden duck. AP people won't forget this betrayal.' Meanwhile, Naidu-led TDP is celebrating the day as 'Praja Teerpu Dinam' (People's Victory Day). (ANI)

As TDP gears up for convention on YSR turf, why all eyes are on Lokesh's elevation as heir apparent
The elevation from national general secretary to working/executive president is viewed in the party as a stepping stone to Lokesh's eventual rise to the leadership of the TDP. 'Both working and executive president titles are under consideration, with inclination more on the first,' said a party insider. Hyderabad: All eyes will be on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's son and state minister Lokesh when the Telugu Desam Party's three-day convention begins Tuesday at Kadapa. Party circles are abuzz with speculations about Lokesh's possible elevation as 'working president' or 'executive president' although the TDP hasn't said anything officially. Party sources told ThePrint that the muhurtham for the elevation announcement could be the finale of Mahanadu, the party's first annual convention after the TDP-led NDA's resounding victory in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh assembly polls. 'With Naidu deputing Lokesh to run most party affairs, he is the de facto working president already. But as Naidu is still very active, the moot question is when he will take the full lead and official control of the party,' said a leader. Another senior party leader and politburo member had doubts about Lokesh's elevation as working president being announced at the convention as it 'was not formally discussed by the party supremo in the politburo, the party's highest decision-making forum'. But a third leader clarified, 'Politburo's endorsement is not mandatory. Lokesh's step-up is most likely to happen at the Mahanadu.' Earlier this year, there was a sudden and growing chorus from within the TDP to designate Lokesh as a second deputy chief minister. The demand tapered off, but not before causing some friction with ally Jana Sena Party, whose chief Pawan Kalyan is deputy chief minister in the Naidu-led coalition government. The BJP maintained silence on the matter. Lokesh met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on 17 May. Accompanied by his wife Brahmani and son Devansh, he also had a dinner with the Prime Minister at the latter's official residence. The meeting, party sources said, came after Modi teasingly complained to Lokesh during the Amaravati capital project re-inauguration event on 2 May that the Andhra Pradesh minister doesn't come to meet him. 'So, Lokesh sought an appointment. The meeting was great, marking a significant and memorable moment for him and his family,' a source said. During the meeting, Modi unveiled the first copy of Yuvagalam, a coffee-table book chronicling Lokesh's 3,132-km padayatra crisscrossing Andhra before the 2024 Assembly elections. While the TDP has been projecting the padayatra as a game changer that contributed greatly to the NDA's spectacular victory and catapulted their young leader into the status of a mass leader, Modi unveiling the first copy of the coffee-table book and presenting it to Lokesh is being seen 'as Modi's appreciation and encouragement' of his leadership abilities. Expressing gratitude for the Centre's 'continued support towards the state's progress,' Lokesh also asked for the PM's guidance on how the state could further contribute to the national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, the TDP said in a statement on 17 May. Lokesh, a second-term minister, holds human resources development; IT, electronics & communication; and real time governance portfolios in his father Chandrababu Naidu's cabinet. This is Naidu's fourth term as chief minister. Lokesh, a member of the legislative council between 2017 and 2023, was elected to the state legislative assembly the first time in 2024. He represents the Mangalagiri constituency, next to Vijayawada and Amaravati. He contested from the same segment in 2019, but was swept away in the wave mounted by Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSRCP. A Stanford MBA, Lokesh entered politics by joining the TDP before the 2014 polls. He has been general secretary for three terms now i.e. six years and is an ex-officio member of the politburo. Rajasekhara Reddy and his son Jagan have been elected to Lok Sabha previously. Both father and son, as opposition leaders and CMs, have represented the nearby Pulivendula assembly constituency which falls under the Kadapa Lok Sabha segment. Jagan's party swept there in the 2019 polls, but suffered much damage in the 2024 elections, managing to retain Kadapa Lok Sabha seat, and Pulivendula and Badvel assembly constituencies, but losing the rest five segments to the TDP-BJP. 'Mahanadu in Kadapa is to send out a strong warning to Jagan and co that we have arrived in his district, his town, his street, and are challenging his might,' a TDP leader told ThePrint, evoking a famous dialogue of actor-cum-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna, now a TDP MLA, in a blockbuster movie set in Rayalaseema. Brahmani, Lokesh's wife, is Balakrishna's daughter. (Edited by Ajeet Tiwari) Also Read: How Rajesh Kilaru, Nara Lokesh's classmate, has emerged as No.3 in TDP

Ryots rejoice as revival of capital city takes off
Vijayawada: A festive mood prevailed in the capital city area with Prime Minister Narendra Modi kick starting the works for revival of Amaravati. Farmers of the capital city area are on cloud nine with the revival of the Amaravati. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The joy of the farmers knew no bounds as they moved to reach the venue with newfound energy. The Amaravati area, which was actually draped in sorrow and grief for five years, has retuned to full life after Naidu returned to power. The capital city farmers staged protests, dharnas, rallies for nearly five years after the previous YSRCP regime came up with three-capital cities theory only to weaken Amaravati. The farmers not only continued their protests despite police pressures and cases but also waged a resilient legal battle. The farmers stopped their 1631-day long protests after the return of Naidu-led NDA to power in last June. Farmers felt that PM's visit to relaunch the capital city projects brought their five-year long ordeals and trauma of the farmers to an end. The farmers of the capital city took the revival of Amaravati work as a matter of prestige and attended the event in big numbers. The farmers in Thullur took out a rally with music band on Friday while reaching the public meeting venue. Firecrackers were burst along their way as several farmers jumped and danced to exhibit their joy. Hundreds of women farmers were seen leading the rally to the capital city. "This is biggest festival for us as Amaravati is going to script the new history," said Gadde Prabhavati of Thullur.
